Help please!

I'm new here, and maybe there is something I'm missing, but I can't seem to finish any game due to lost connections.

All crashes occur between player turns (possibly while auto-saving), and occur VERY regularly (about a 30% chance of lost connection every turn).

As far as I know I'm playing with all the right stuff, JavaBBowl Client 5.6, options.nfo, positions.ini, JRE 1.3.1_08, Internet Explorer with the latest patch etc. Could it be that I'm running Win 2000?

Thankful for any help or hints!

yes - it could be win 2000, the JRE version and/or drivers for your communication equipment. read the documents included in the java client.

I have (sort of) solved the problem, seems to have been some kind of conflict between Win 2000 and the JavaBBowl Client.

Changed my OS to Win 98 and haven't had any problems since then. Very Happy

It seems that some hardware (or the drivers for that hardware) have a problem with the java jre. A few people have reported that changing out their harware (and thus their driver) has fixed the problem for them (these people were either on 2000 or XP). So if you have another network card or modem (either lying around or in another computer) I would suggest swapping them out temporarily to see if that solves the problem. Alteratively try downloading newer drivers for your current network hardware and see if that helps.

One last thing to try is turn off hardware acceleration for direct x. I have seen some problems on laptops running 2000 and direct x hardware acceleration. Some desktop computers with ATI graphics cards also have the same problem.
