SkiJunkie said (for the server, not the client): "For "Server:" field, enter your IP address."

This is definitely the part I would've missed...I'll do this next time.

Wicht - I used port 8080. Although haven become frustrated, I may have tried 8085 as well but can't swear to it.

It is possible port 8080 was already in use by another program. You should try another port just to see if that is your problem. 8081, 8085, 8090, 9010, etc whatever you want to try.

OK here is what I get :

pavilion/10.xxx.xxx.x ( the x's are numbers but they arent the IP address I see at the top of my FUMBBL page)

Server Waiting for Connection

Sever opening socket

(Then it just sits there doing nothing)

Is the oher IP address a firewall ? Help * I'm stupid at this!?!

The game can only know about the IP addresses local to your computer. So if the ip address on the fumbbl page does not match the one displayed in the game then there is most likely something between your computer and the internet (firewall, router, etc). So it is likely that you cannot direct connect unless you figure out how to get that something to forward the proper ports to your computer.

This is exactly what it is supposed to do. It is now waiting for a client to connect to your game. But like I said, the client probably cannot get to your machine because of whatever is between you and the internet.

I must say I think it's really sad that over 50% of the fumbblers (who filled out the poll so probably even more) uses the proxy for no good reason. Don't they realise that this is costing both Christer and Chickenbrain money? And how many of em will have donated to take back some of the burden they placed in their shoulders? I admit that during the weekdays I play over a proxy too but only because I have too (god damn Uni's firewall, whish I could tear it down without them noticing it) but guess what? I learned myself to configure routers and how to forward ports (which both isn't really that hard if ya can read) for one reason only: To host games direct when I'm at home (usually the weekends but soon I'll be home all the time again and when I am and get my main comp back there, I'll probably set up a proxy myself FOR THOSE WHO ACTUALLY NEED IT! (and as long as it doesn't creat bandwith issues)). Anyway, people, please only use the proxies if you don't have another option. If you should be able to host direct (no known firewalls or router on your end) and it still doesn't work, ask someone in the chat if they can help out. I'm sure most people who can, will be happy too...

I donĀ“t host direct because I am behind a firewall and a rooter and I am not able to find out how to open a free port. I really would like to and tried it several times but failed.

Alas, as I am playing almost every day, I am at least donating on a regular basis, how everybody should do IMO.
