Apparently something is wrong with the proxy games atm - when connecting as a spectator the teams are not sent/loaded/transferred, and hence no players displayed - all one sees of the game is what happens in the log window.
I assume that it is a proxy fault and not a client bug as I was able to spectate a game not hosted via proxy earlier today.
