Just a random question that poped into my mind.

Why do we represent TV like this: 1000 TV when you could just say 100 TV?

It is not possible to have a TV of lets say 1982. So why even have the extra digit?

Plus when Iam adding up TV I only take it to the hundred digit like in LRB4

Count up the skills...Lets say you have 10 Regular skils=20 TV...and so on. (10 X 2= 20TV) Drop all those dang 0000! They are pointless I say!!!!

Not expecting some grand revelation type of answer here...just a thought.

And no its not in the rule book, I checked Laughing It represents TV out to the Million digit.

More of those dang FUMBBL house rules Shocked

In a fantasy world were 100 Gold Crowns would set you up for a year does it make any sense that a ref should get 50,000 GC's for a measley bribe? The line for any job opening as a FFB ref must be HUGE!!! wraps around the imperial palace twice. They have an entire regiment of guards just so the job seekers dont get out of line.

I agree!
I hate inflated numbers

I think I might go with something like 1.3k TV

The TV is based on the gold value of the team. The real question that arises is: What is a gold point? Is it some heavily inflated coin made of actual gold that is just very common in Warhammer World? Are maybe rookie players just seriously expensive? Is a gold point maybe a heavily inflated currency that is no actual gold but some other cheap metal like tin? Or is a gold point maybe equivalent to a thounds gold coin? Whereby in the last case indeed the question would arise why not to count in gold coins.
I'd assume the answer to be a mixture of several aspects:
On the one hand the currency is inflated. On the other hand Bloodbowl is a dangerous sport and even a rookie is not at all on average fan. He is an outstanding occurance that qualifies him to play in a professional team that earns money and develops.

In the middle of that stands the question where to put inducements. It is told that the stadium owner pays for the difference in TV to make the game more exciting. That's a strong indication that a) the currency is heavily inflated and b) the stadium owner earns the majority of the money from the game so that he can afford this kind of PR. I don't believe the answer is actually so simple. I'd expect the stadium owner to be in fact owner of the referees and a bunch of superstars. He can actually sell them for hire to other teams for overpriced conditions. If he on the other hand has to provide players himself or passes on a note to his placed referee he can do that for a minimum of the expenses it would cost a team to ask for the same services itself. On the other hand he can hang the market price out for his cheap game support and make a large PR campaign for his stadium out of it.

On the matter why to cut off three 0s with a k and not four is simply that there is no real letter for 10k except well... 10k.... and just writing an extra 0 is shorter..

in the end best you ask the creator/creators of bb...

The currency of the Blood Bowl world is inflated all right, and the inflation hit in the years following the collapse of the NAF.

Isn't the average life expectancy about 7 games?

If someone approached me (a human lineman) to play a game where I was likely to be dead after 7 outings and during that time would get bashed endlessly by Black Orcs, Chaos Warriors, Mummies, Minotaurs, Ogres, Beasts of Nurgle or Trolls; frenzied into bloodthirsty crowds by Witch Elfs of Troll Slayers; run over by a Death Roller; clawed by a mutant rat; hypnotised by a vampire; chainsawed; blown up; ball and chained; burnt in a magic fireball or worst of all gang-fouled in the final moments of the game.

For all this I would be given 50,000 pieces of whatever this currency is a game?!

Or....

I could become a ref, specialise in Goblin games and just be incompetent. 50,000 per bribe! Sign me up!

And suddenly we are not allowed to kill the ref anymore Smile
.. at least not during the game.

Well clearly its because all of the players have a pointless 4 extra digits.
I would be fine with 5 gold for a lineman, but if you are going to have 50 or 50k for no reason you kind of have to have an inflated tv for no reason.

1 gold crown probably is supposed to parallel 1 ounce of gold, which currently would buy you more than 1350 Dollars / 1000 Euros.

Considering that, in human history, 1 ounce of silver meant a month's salary for most people whereas 1 ounce of gold would pay them for a year (and I know people who think this will be true again in a future not too far away), you might as well drop the last 4 digits easily.

Don't get deceived by WoW and other MMORPG economies: Gold in these environments is merely the equivalent of our fiat-money.

I think to make it more realistic, we should start with only allowing Human, Norse (Werewolfs need discussion), Amazon, pure Thrall Vampire teams and not allow any Big Guys or a Wizard inducement.

Then I am ready to discuss things like "how much worth is a gold piece, and why do we base our unit system on 10^3?" Smile

Is that a "it's only fantasy!" point? Wiith that attitude we may aswell throw the boardgame on the ground and declare it gods intervention.

My point was more not to mix real life into a fantasy game (in both accounts - real/fantasy and life/game). Throwing the game to the ground and calling it divine intervention would mix both again, so from my point of view I couldn't do it.

I don't care for the amount of gold they should cost if bb was real argument.
At the end of the day it is just a game where you make a team with points.
Having a million points to make a team and all components costing multiples of ten thousand is just totally unnecessary.
We all know that Saurus cost 8 points and Human linemen cost 5 points, so I think it would be a good idea to change the system in the interests of elegance and also being different from a certain GW product.

Well, I always figured the player costs were an abstraction; 50k for an average lineman represents not only the start-up hiring cost (and I assume that even to get on a blood bowl team (willingly) you have to be pretty talented, even if you're "just" a lineman), but also the contract that continues on. As the player gets better from further games and the team value increases, spiraling expenses represents the contract getting bigger and bigger as players demand more money for their loyalties.

And remember of course; the world of Warhammer Fantasy is not the equivalent of our own Medieval ages. Our own Middle ages didn't have elves or orcs (or zombies, or tomb kings/khemri, or vampires etc.) for one thing. You can't even count Fantasy Battle's version of the crowns as the same as this one; it's been stated that Blood Bowl is an alternate universe where Blood Bowl has literally replaced war, that would have a shocking effect on the currency, not to mention the fall of the NAF later on.

In other words, who cares about how much players cost? Convert the Crowns into Dollars however you like that makes sense to YOU and just get on with your life.
