"Stars Die, Legends Live"

William could barely hear the crowd roaring, over the rain beating his fur-lined helm. The people of Wolfenburg were on their feet, cheering with all their hearts as he, the blitzer-captain of the Wolfenburg Wolfpack sprinted down the field.

Bursting away from the carnage left behind him he had one last orc to beat before he scored the game winning touchdown. William was not the fastest on the pitch anyway, but with the swampy mess of mud, rain, and blood he knew he would never beat the last orc around the edge- he had to go through him. 20 out- William could start to see the orc in more detail, his huge, muscly build. His awkwardly large and spiked shoulder pauldrons. His green body tensing, preparing for the hit. 10 out- William could now see the orcs face, his blood thirsty red eyes, his mutilating scars, and the fangs…the fangs through that evil grin. William loaded himself up to run through the orc, dropped his head and shoulder and- slipped. His foot had slipped and he lost all power. The orcs shoulder smashed right into WIlliam's face. Everything went white, there was a ringing in his ears. "Fuck". His face was bleeding, his nose was broke, and their was a giant gash in his head. The rain was washing some of the blood away, as he had lost his helmet.

William could not force himself to do anymore than get to his knees. The ball was laying in a puddle 5 meters away, and so was the orc, rolling around in pain. It must of broken it's shoulder laying the hit. His body stunned in pain and disbelief, all William could do was look on as 3 orcs came charging his way, laughing and pointing, "We goon' kill you real Gud"! William could now hear the announcers, "Well Bob, I almost feel bad for the veteran star, after the game he's had today the Eye-Gougers most certainly are not going to show him any mercy!" " Right you are Jim! it's about to get ugly, just how we like it!"

As William kneeled there in the mud, frozen and defeated, he looked to the sky, felt the rain upon his face, it was almost refreshing. Then he remembered, he remembered the words of wisdom his first coach, and mentor had told him back in his rookie year… Stars die, But legends live on.

In his mind he went back to that day, 20 years ago, he was 19. He watched on from the dugout as his Wolfpack battled on with a Skaven team…he couldn't even tell you the name, or what the score was, he never played, so he never payed attention. All he could tell you was that their captain, Cornelius Morgan, was the best in the league, and in this game he was definitely showing it. He was running the ball down the sideline, leveling rat after rat, tacking on more rushing meters to his already a season high. Cornelius was starting to get wrangled in, 3 Skaven had him, he had no blockers, how would astonish the masses this time?!

He didn't. A rat jumped on him from behind, biting the side of his neck, as blood spurted all over the 2 opponents, another rat took a dive at the Captain's planted leg, a bonechilling snap, and Cornelius's right leg turned to jello, he dropped with a blood-curdling scream. The young William watched in horror as the third rat, then a fourth piled onto the downed star. In a matter of seconds players from both team were engaged in a blood splattering struggle for the ball. A gutter-runner squirted out and scored a touchdown, and the struggle ended. When the bodies cleared away, all that was left was Cornelius's corpse, mangled and beaten. The former star was now nothing but a filth covered corpse on the side of the blood bowl pitch.

"Well Jim, looks like that's the end of the line for the blood bowl legend Cornelius Morgan" "Right you are Bob, the Skaven really turned him into rat food!" Upon hearing this the Wolfpack's manager and head coach looked right into the young William's eyes. The coaches experience as a blood bowl lineman was apparent, his face was mangled and scarred- he even had an eyepatch, thanks to a nasty bout with a dwarf trollslayer. The coach, Spicy McHaggis looked him right in the eye, emotionless, and said, " kid, that man was no legend, a star yes, but a legend, god's no. A star dies, but a legend, he lives on. He lives on to fight another day… Now get your ass in the game and try not to die you spineless chump!"

Spicy's words echoed in WIlliam's shellshocked head as he stared up into the rain. They echoed around, and inspired him. He was all the sudden taken over by a fire that was lit deep inside. " I am a Legend!", he roared as he hopped to his feet- right as the first orc reached him. He grabbed his helmet from the mud and slammed the spiked top right into the orcs throat. The second orc came at him swinging a haymaker, which he dodged and the orc wailed as William kicked his knee in. William was roaring like a madman, the fire inside was almost too much! He dove at the third orc, wrestled him to the ground in a flurry of fists, curses, and blood and spit. He broke the orcs neck when they hit the ground. Wiliiam hopped up looking for more would-be-tacklers. None were within reach, so he scooped up the ball and trotted into the endzone….just as time expired. The roar of the stadium could be heard through the entire city of Wolfenburg, as the crowd cheered for their Wolfpack. Teammates piled on William in celebration.

Back in the locker room, the team was still celebrating! As William was taking off his boots, Coach Spicy McHaggis hobbled up to him, and smiled. No one had ever seen him smile. "William von Hammerschmidt, you are a legend".

Pretty good, I liked it. I could visualize the scene and it definitely had the Blood Bowl atmosphere. Weren't sure if you would go for the bad ending or this one. All in all, a short nice little piece of fiction.
