Today I have not been able to start or spectate any games.

Time was fumbbl server time 1400 +/-

I am running a Mac OSX 10.7.5
I downloaded and reinstalled the latest Java 7.17

when I click on Play or Spectate the jnlp file downloads, opens but freezes.

I can't select to close the credits box and it doesn't auto close

the only way to close is to command Q

anyone else experiencing this or know how I might be able to resolve it?

I have the very same problem. Haven't found a solution for it yet.

Couldnt you remove the latest update from your Mac so you are using an older version?

I'm running Java 7u21 (Or 1.7.0_21 if you look at the output of "java -version") on OS X 1.8.3 without any trouble. Try reinstalling the latest java update from Oracle ( http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html ) and see if it helps.
