The World Championship Series had more than 70 coaches, I think, but is currently struggling to revive itself after a break of one year.

It's not realyl the break that is causing the problems tho.

We had problems already in the second season. Almost half of the coaches who signed up just disappeared in the course of the season, most of them without leaving a note. So were in a constant need to replenish numbers.

These sorts of things wear pretty strong on everyone. It was tough to keep things together but we somehow did it.
By season 3 we had teams that had a wide range of TV and again a lot of dropouts.
At this point the staff was incredibly unmotivated, where I had 10-12 people helping me before I was suddenly in a position where I had to do everything on my own.
Then some work related real life issues interfered and I had to take a break from Fumbbl if I wanted or not.
However, I never had planned to continously run this league. Instead I had implemented both a hierarchy that takes care that things are done when nobody takes responsibilty AND a democratic way of doing things if the members want to change something. The members had not any interest in democracy
and the person responsible for running the league in my absence decided to rather only continue his own nation.
From the other people noone cared enough to pick up the torch, so what ultimatively happened was that a league died noone seemed to genuinly care about beyond wanting me to run it.

That being said the problem back then and right now is pretty much the same. The groups are small by design, there needs to be a way to replenish numbers and fumbbl simply doesn't have that amount of members.

Now, there had been concerns from the start that teams should be reset and such. And I did not want that. Poeple have doubted my sanity for even starting this thing, I think I showed it's possible. That doesn't mean there is limitless leeway to do things however we want.
We tried many different things. Last year I was hugely against a cut but it soon became apparent that we wouldn't make numbers and would have to shut half of our nations down.
To make a cut in the end wasn't an easy choice but it seemed like a good enough way to maybe interested new people.

The problem was that apparently neither new people were motivated to join against 1250 teams nor the old people seem to be willing to play at that level. People seemed to prefer to just sit on their teams and do nothing with them than join the league again.

In either case, we're still working on a solution, which is me and Stonetroll who is right now the only one helping me. So if you see some way to make this happen or want this to succeed feel free to help out.

League was the thing that drove me away from this site (commitment pressures, and a couple of times having to turn down real life social opportunities as I had a game scheduled, only to get home and have a no-show).

That really sucks but is a problem related to lack of coaches' commitment.
If League commissioner starts to ban the unreliable coaches then the League runs smoothly and it's fun.

I did a 'Search' for merge AND blackbox AND ranked..

..I only found 2 Polls, one of which was recent'ish and the other looks to be locked back in 2011.

There have been a lot of creative ideas and interesting conversation to read and consider.

A couple of things stood out to me the most:

-Poll Option: Ranked and Box stay own divisions but all teams can take part in all Tournaments (like FC)

-Admin Comment: there are actually plenty of opportunities for people to find games..... they only use 1 or 2 aspects(gamefinder/blackbox)....there's only about 50 applicants to smack tournaments, which kick off weekly....if people are so hard up for games, why not start taking taking advantage of the tournament system, instead of only relying on gamefinder to find a match?

Without taking things to extremes, is it possible to open up a couple more Tournaments for R and B to participate in?
..Maybe add the Black Cup & Grotty Little Tournament to the format (open to R&B) the FUMBBL Cup uses?

I'd love to, but I struggle to handle my life in general - retaining a certain balance between FUMBBL being a much needed sanctuary and dragging me further down is already a tricky task sometimes without administrative commitments. Sad

No. The NAF aren't changing anything. NTBB and CRP+ are the only proposed changes, they are from Plasmoid as an individual, and they have not been/are unlikely to be adopted by any of the (semi)official BB organisations.

2009... Cyanide release Blood Bowl.

It might be the NAF-sanctioned Fumbbl tournaments that Wreckage is referring to. I can see resurrection-style tournaments being a big draw.

No, that isn't on the cards. Someone suggested they should on a thread like this on TFF, but that is as far as it went.

But if there were ever changes, they would only make sense if coordinated with FUMBBL IMO. No other way to gather enough data.

Well if the idea is that the #1 thing FUMBBL can do is get more coaches on the site playing Blood Bowl then there is nothing currently on the site "we" can change that will make them come back or arrive for the first time.

The current Box debate is a debate amongst ourselves. 15 guys sitting around a hobby shop playing TT and have never really played on FUMBBL do not care and have no clue about scheduler changes and so forth.

TT resurrection is the only viable outside FUMBBL option that is available. Get that up and running and now FUMBBL has something to sell Blood Bowl coaches outside of FUMBBL.

Then they can join the site and join in the endless Box/Ranked debates and we will all have a grand time. Because if the plan works they will then stick around and play some R/B/S/L.

TT resurrection is FUMBBLs only real hope to get a lot of new coaches on the site.
