No, Java is not supported on iPads or Droid tablets.

Surface 3s with Windows 8.1 Pro on the other hand can since they can run Java.

The correct answer is yes, but not recommended. Some people managed to play/spec via tablet using remote desktop applications, thus using the computer to run the java and the tablet to operate it.

I can see that scheduled matches show in the upcoming matches tab in the group. Pretty cool.

I it possible to click around a bit in the client, test moving and such, without actually playing a full game?

yes, use test mode with two different teams.

Full instructions here: https://fumbbl.com/help:Test+mode

Or for a quick start, try the biog on this team: https://fumbbl.com/p/team?team_id=721434

Click on both links there, call each game test:blah, and you can play against yourself to your heart's content!

Some helpful tips, which I stole from elsewhere in this or other threads (or learned "the hard way"):

1. The game name you have to type in to start the game (arranged with your opponent) is case sensitive. It is customary to make it one word and all lowercase to avoid any issues with this, but just make sure it's exactly what you agreed upon via PM.

2. The first thing to try when something "doesn't work" with the client would be to close the client and rejoin, but waiting 10 seconds before trying this is worth it to see if there is just a lag issue.

3. If players go missing while setting up for kickoff (sometimes happens while misclicking or double clicking while dragging a player), load a team setup from the menu. If you don't have a team setup saved, go ahead and save what you have and reload it - the player should reappear in your reserves.

4. The game is saved at the start of your turn, when your turn marker is moved. If you and your opponent decide to both quit and come back at a later time due to some RL reason, make sure you do so just after the turn marker is moved. occas turns midway through aren't saved. This is especially important after a TD - don't quit in the setup phase! Make sure you get through the kickoff and the turn marker moves so you are sure the game is saved before you quit. This is rarely a problem, it can really change the game so it's worth being careful.

5. When in doubt, work it out. A misclick is just your mistake, get over it. But something strange happens (like a bug) see if you can't make it work in a way you both agree on. Sometimes this is possible, depending on what happened. If you can't agree, then it's best to pause the game and seek help via IRC or this thread.

EDIT: Oh, and most important of all: You can mark players by shift-clicking them. For example, "G" for guard, "T" for tackle and so on.

I think one of the most common immediate issues for new FUMBBLers is being unable to chat, having the bottom of the client cut-off at the bottom of the screen. This helpful page covers this problem, and lists a lot of other useful information.

Great post, HG!
