How much time and hence money would it take to hire a pro to develop a html5 client?
I mean like in full time working. on it?
Kalimar has done a great job with the current client and is now back at it (yay!), but I doubt he'll have time for this too.
Could we get there with raising money here?
I m willing to pay to get tablet Fumbbl for sure

To resurrect this thread, I'm looking at buying a Windows 8 Pro tablet.

Google tells me that since it's a full version of Win 8, I can install a JRE onto it, which should let me run the client. The question is, does anyone know how the client would work with it? I'm thinking potential problems with screen resolution and maybe touch events?

I own a Surface Pro, and I play FUMBBL from time to time on it. Sure, it's more confortable on my desktop (the Pro has a 10' screen with 1920x1080 resolution, so the client is a bit small), but it does the job.

First, since this has been resurrected, I can confirm the Surface Pro is quite capable of playing. It's a tiny bit annoying at times, especially with the misclicks (small screen), but I can play FUMBBL on long train rides.

Secondly, to quote Kalimar in the 1.1.0 forum post:
Kalimar wrote:

The networking protocol has changed to Websockets, using the JSON format for messages. This is to prepare for a new client version using Javascript in the future. Persistence (the way games are stored) has changed completely. Replays will be stored in the Amazon cloud in the future, freeing up a lot of database space.

A JS client == a HTML 5 client.

You need to be able to install Java on it. I don't think you have access to desktop mode (so no installing Java) on the normal Surface.

Really, it isn't that much news that the Surface Pro can play it - it's essentially a laptop which is shaped like a tablet, running a full version of Windows.

Someone did tell me a couple of days ago that they disconnected going through a tunnel during a train ride.

He rejoined just a minute later Smile

I have estimated current work value of FFB system to be over 500 000 euros per development only. Somewhere with seven digits could suffice, though there are immense IP problems with those sums.

Kalimar is quite industrious and generous human being! Surprised

I installed linux on android (Bodhi linux as image)
browsing by icedweasel, java packages installed: openjdk-7-jdk icedtea-plugin

I get the client open when I try to watch a match, but
it opens the window:
Start game as player
coach : unknown
password :
game :
start new game - list open games

do you have any hints to overcome the problem???

thanks
