Hi there,

I'm playing humans in a TT league. I've got an ag4 blitzer, thrower and an ag5 catcher! Sounds great, right?

The problem is I don't feel like I really know how to make best use of them. I'm relatively new (20ish games) and have only played humans. I'm starting to see the problem of pushing up tv as I got thrashed by an equal tv slann team where pretty much all of them had block.

I realise that's quite a vague question. But I don't really know what to ask.
Our league hasn't had much ag play, so I've not seen others using much passing play. And my impression is that it's seen as suboptimal anyway.
In which case what do i do with them?

Any suggestions?

That much + Agility does indeed sound nice. On a developed team. At lower TV levels there really is such a thing as too many + Stat players and it seems you've hit that spot.

Just work through it and make sure you try to spread the SPP around a bit. That way you can gain some basic skills on other guys, after which all the Ag will certainly start paying off.

Hi, take Block, Side Step, Leap on the AG 5 Catcher.

With those three I would make the Thrower the standard ball carrier even though he is slow, but he has Sure Hands and Pass and that's useful. The only thing he really needs is Block, and Dodge on Doubles. Keep the Catcher ready for handovers on offence. On Defence he is great for ball retrieval, AG5 can get it even in several tackle zones. He also needs Block and then Leap before anything else, opens up to many options.

That leaves the Blitzer. Take Dodge on Doubles obviously, but otherwise I would develop him normally, you need four "real" Blitzers and a mobile Guard and/or Hitter who can dodge on a 2+ is very useful.

I do have the same questioning as Shalin.
Cuz I have two AG4 blitzer on a 1500K tv team [R].

The 2 blitzer+AG roles I have experienced the most with are :
- free safety role on def. (tackle skill is good here). Slam the receiver or man him -> on the following turns pick up and throw to counter attack. Advantage : No need to field the thrower on defence.
- Tight end on offense. Line of Scrimmage. Hidden amongst other regular players. Can pull out to give assists outside or runaway deepfield and become a throwing target.

Oof. Double +AG catcher is particularly painful... AG5 is legit amazing but it needs a lot of skill support to be useful, especially for ST2 squishies. Being able to dodge through a tacklezone or leap on 2+ makes them amazing for getting through enemy screens, but... then what are you supposed to do with him?

He doesn't have the skills to go after the enemy ballcarrier, your thrower doesn't have the skills to get the ball to him, and he's too squishy to hang out on his own deep in enemy territory. You could try to develop him into a 1-turn specialist with Sprint + Sure Feet and any +MA you stumble into, but that's tying up a ton of team value in an unreliable niche player.

AG4 blitzer on the other hand is great out of the box. He can make "safe" pickups and (with a reroll) catches just as well as the AG5 catcher, but he's also already reasonably competent at blocking. Get him tackle ASAP (and dodge if you're fortunate enough to get doubles) and you've got an amazing blitzer who also doubles as a scoring threat.[/i]

Maybe Interception specialist with pass block
Already synergizes with AG5/catch/dodge without further investment

if he is in the right spot, 75% interception chance against non-safe throwers.

good advice. One variation would be sure hands instead of sidestep. where ever the ball hits the ground, this guy will own it.

Side Step is better for 1TTD attempts and to prevent crowdsurfs when running along the side lines.

I think we got wedded to FUMBBL thinking here.

He wants to know how to use them NOW. Well, here's how i see it:

Yes, justifying the +ag TV drag is tough at low TV. so they have to be useful.

First up, they (especially the catcher) will soak up a LOT of opponent attention, so use them to bluff sometimes. pulling the opponents key players where you want them and opening up other areas of the field.

So the blitzer is an elf, specifically a Dark Elf, and should be doing the sorts of things that Elves can do. Use him to hit and also feel free to preposition as the ag4 is great for that. Also allows him to slip out and receive if it all goes wrong and you have to throw the ball. He should also be going to down the ball carrier when you can, using the ag4 to get through. remember he goes into 2 tz's on a 4+, with reroll and assists cancelled its a decent shot at the ball.

The ag5 catcher can do a lot, but is fragile and a target for every hitter and every boot. he is a better thrower than a standard human thrower. if you didnt have a +ag thrower I'd say use his greater agility and speed to field the ball and get it wherever you want. As you can pick up ad run with the ag4 thrower the catcher can use his speed to swap sides a lot and misslead the opposition. also can dodge through lines fairly easy, into/through a tz at 2+, so leap is a luxury you often dont need.

And then what everyone else said...

Develop the Thrower normally. he should live a while. Leader and maybe kick, dodge on doubles. Still dont throw the ball unless you need to.

Blitzer needs kill skills, hes your go to hitter and ball downer.

Catcher needs blodge and thats about it. Id develop another for one turning if thats your thing but SS is always cool. Leap works, but with speed and ag5 isnt a huge priority.

Thanks for all the replies.
Particular thanks to purplechest, yes I was looking for immediate applications rather than development paths.
will try to apply all that next week. Playing rookie elf union, so hopefully should be an easier game!

If you're having issues because of the over bloated TV and are having troubles with similar TV'd teams that just have balanced skill distribution, i'd even be tempted to sack the Catcher if you can afford another rookie one. Though obviously that's not an ideal option xD
