That latest git version doesn't build for me. A few tweaks and it loads.
it relies on an older version of the libs. I started upgrading it to support the more recent version on my fork. But got distracted....

Did you check out the AI project on Github from niels justesen? They have already built the client in Python with most of the functionality and it's an open source project to run their bots on it.

I think this is where you should add your time.

Why put time into that and not Fumbbl?

I assume that it already does what it needs to do to run the bots.

It is not going to have what Fumbbl gives you. You won't be able to just roll up and find a game vs a human being as you can here. Along with all the community, leagues, tournaments etc.

Are you afeared of javascript? Twisted Evil

TLDR: Did it mention money anywhere? Wink

But still, building a bot is a different thing to building a client.

We do need a new client. We've got this far without a bot. How good do these bots look compared to a human opponent?

If you want to build bots then great. If you want to build a client, surely you're better off following Christer.

The bots are still pretty terrible. The winner was Grodbot which was not a learning bot, but more of a human programming the bot to do specific things by weights. Still, a worthy project, especially for a Python developer even if the client side would be my preference for someone to work on.

Hell, I want both at some level.

The two Grodbots perfected all the learning AIs, in fact. 10/0/0.

The thing that bugs me about client talk is that it is purely an experiential thing. "Wouldn't our BB playing experience be better if we had a new client" essentially. And I'm sitting here craving knowledge and wisdom about the game, I don't care if we have to figure it out using representational pebbles.

The client is fine if you have the "right configuration".

If you don't e.g. wrong device, wrong O/S, wrong resolution etc., it can be a PITA. It may not run at all.
Some java upgrade may mean that it won't run for anyone that upgrades.

Many will want to play on their tablets. I'll bet that there are some people that hang on to some ageing computer for no reason other than to lay Fumbbl.

The current client is great but it sure ain't the future.
