There are two ways:

You upload your pictures to a free picture site and link them
(http://www.imageshack.us/ for example)
or
you upload them (single or packed as .zip) on some own webspace and link them.
(some internet providers give you free webspace in small amounts within your contract)

Anyway, the pictures will only be seen on this page. If you want your opponent to see the icons, then the opponent has to download them and change his icons.ini. There is no option to auto-include custom icons in a match. There would be much space for misuse as replacing stunty icons with the ones of BigGuys or changing the color to fake the team membership and similar.

edit: I dont know if you can use the fumbbl-gallery. You may only try it, just click on the portrait of one of your players, upload the picture and switch portrait back to standard. When the picture gets approved, you may link it from your gallery.

Just found this thread and here's my first attempt at a custom icon (using GIMP)

Growing up in the Waagggh whilst all the other boys dreamed of growing up to be Varag Ghoul-Chewer a young Prool idolised a different player....

Jordell Freshbreeze

All the other Orcs scoffed and it nearly cost him his life on more than one occasion but he never gave up his aspirations of imitating his childhood hero on the BloodBowl pitch.

Now as a member of the greatest Neil Young Album name related Orc team in FUMBBL history ZUMA, he lets his long blonde locks flow free and leaps with wild abandon.

I found this stuff a lot of fun to do, espescially with animations. However I read in another thread here on the forums that animated gifs cause errors on the client. Can anyone tell me what errors I do risk when using animated icons? I know that there are a lot of animated icon usage in the stunty league, does these cause the client to crash? I would be happy if someone could enlighten this a bit for me!

Here is some icons I made:

I suppose the problem with the animated gifs was a memory leak, wasn't it? Once the heap is used up you'll encounter an out-of-memory error. Excessive use of them might cause it happen even during a match.

Not sure if the cause is a memory leak, but excessive use of animated gifs will cause the client to freeze, possibly several times during a match.

I got a problem with custom icons. I can make em, name em and all, but when I move with them, or just click for that matter they turn into those ugly circles. And I cant seem to get the icons right for (customized) opposition aswell, they all remain circles. I'm not so good with codes but if anyone knows the sollution to my problem and could put up the correct way of doing it I would be very gratefull. Im now playing in a league were some coaches have got custom icons and it would be cool to spec or play them with custom icons.

You have to direct the game to the icons. Basically you have to go in and add inputs for each player to use the specified icon.

The file is in your javaBB folder, either "iconssmall" or "iconslarge" (could be "icons.ini" also, my memory is a bit hazy), which ever you use... open it with notepad and it should look something like this...

[HUMAN]

THROWER=hthrower1.gif
BLITZER=hblitzer1.gif
BLITZER=hblitzer2.gif
BLITZER=hblitzer3.gif
CATCHER=hcatcher1.gif
CATCHER=hcatcher2.gif
LINEMAN=hlineman1.gif
LINEMAN=hlineman2.gif
LINEMAN=hlineman3.gif
CHAINSAW=hlineman1.gif
LOONEY=hlineman1.gif
CHAINSAW LOONEY=hlineman1.gif

Just add the player's name and the icon file name at the bottom of the of it all.

For example...

BOB MICHAELS=bobmichaels1.gif

I'm not 100% sure this is the proper method, but IIRC, it's how I did it.

make sure you put the correct ending onto your icon name Smile eg using wraith's example above

bob michaels=bobmichaels1.gif

you should have 2 or 4 (if using home+away teams) icons for this one player as follows-

-bobmichaels1 (red uniform front facing)
-bobmichaels1an (red uniform side on)
-bobmichaels1b (blue uniform front facing)
-bobmichaels1ban (blue uniform side on)

the icon.ini file only needs to have the "bobmichaels=bobmichaels1.gif", the client will then find the 1/1an/1b/1ban gif's automatically

hope this helps Smile if you get stuck drop me a pm and il try help you out or talk you through it on irc.

I've set out some (hopefully easy to follow) instructions here to use the icons for the BBB - http://www.fumbbl.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&p=367438#367438

This thread is for dummies right?

Good. Because I have a problem that is probably due to my 'dumbness'. I have been mucking around with the Nick Kelsh icons. Specifically, I have been changing the red saurus icons to green. But, every time I start a game to see what they look like on the field they have white squares behind them. As far as I can tell from the program I am using (Seashore, a stripped down version of GIMP) the backgrounds should be transparent not white. I tried simply opening the saurus icons then saving as without any modification and I get the same result. Does anyone use Seashore (or GIMP) and know how to fix this problem?

Thanks.

Use GIMP. Dont mess with anything other than the single pixels you want to change and save as GIF ! ... Should work.

I am still hoping somebody will explain the meaning of RGB + indexed colour mode and why, when opening an icon, there are usually only certain colours available on the scheme. (sucks e.g. when repainting a skaven and only having different shades of brown available)

I did change some icons by choosing RGB-mode first, then switching back to "indexed" and here transforming the gif to "web-optimized" colour-scheme (216 colours) ... this way I somehow got to use other colours as well, even though the pic slightly changes and looses a bit of detail I find.

Other than using Seashore instead of GIMP, I've done all that. But, mostly Seashore is a stripped down version of GIMP. In theory it should work the same way... I'll get GIMP and see if it changes anything.

EDIT: GIMP works great. Seashore is no good.

I've found a way to add colours to your palette.

I find them on other icons (or a similar colour) and then press a little blue cross on the bottom of the palette box. Don't know how it got there or if it was always there though.
