Greetings.
As a disclaimer - I suck at computer stuff, so if you could use words of one syllable and big pictures with me (as if I were a child), I'd be most grateful! 
I use the old icon set in JavaBB. For instance these are some of the Orcs I use;

I suppose some of you that have been around for a bit will remember these dudes. I've stuck with the old partly because I don't like change, and partly because I always think 'Yuck, ewwww' when I see the ones that now come with the client. I think they're really unattractive. Anyway, this means that I can't just download an updated icon set and an icons.ini, when I want to alter the icons that come up in my client, I have to fiddle, which I don't normally mind. I'd rather fiddle and keep what I like than move on!
A while back I imported some of the stars from a replayer I liked, for instance, here's the Count I use;

He dances when you select him and stuff, he's pretty. Anyway, when I put him into my icons folder, he went in as ucount1 and ucount1an for me, and the b's for the opposition who dare hire him against me. COUNT VON DRAKENBORG=ucount1.gif went in the icons.ini, and all was instantly well, he popped up when I saw a game with the Count in, easy. I was updating my Stunty icons in the same way this morning, and remembered I have an issue with some of the stars on LRB rosters, which is always annoying in a Major week when you see a lot of them. Despite my Cheaters having Fanatic, Chainsaw and Pogo player icons (for instance), when I link them to the star names in icons.ini, it doesn't work. At the moment, for instance, Nobbla is a Orc Lino for Orcs, and a really annoying 'L' for Chaos. I seem to have the line 'CHAINSAW LOONEY=olineman1.gif' in for the Orcs, which explains that, but if I delete or modify the line, I drop to an 'L' for the Orcs too. NOBBLA BLACKWART=gochain1.gif doesn't work, which is odd, since that exact icon works fine for Goblins or Gobbo Cheaters.
It's really frustrating me how some icons seem to link up from the file to the folder to the client, and some seem to die halfway. I have (for instance) a perfectly good HAKFLEM SCUTTLESPIKE=shakflem1.gif line in the file, a fine icon in the folder, but an 'L' in the client. Why is this any different from the Count?
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew of anything obvious I could be missing in my attempts to fix this, or if any of the people still using the older icons have the same issues, and if so, if they've managed to fix them.

No solutions, but I have this problem too! Made a seperate section [PLAYERS] with the goblin stars and Hakflem listed in there and they seem to work, but I'm sure there must be a real solution? |

Yeah, just shove a new section on the end of the ini file and it works fine. Only problem I've had is when you get reanimated stars on undead teams showing as the actual star instead of a zombie. Only happened a couple of times though. |

Should work no matter where the player is named in icons.ini Although usually it's a matter of mispelling names and/or the actual file /big JPG instead of small jpg.) Does the exact same line work if it's under anything else but [PLAYERS] (notice there is a section for stars at the bottom of the file if that does any difference)? |

Not sure really, now it's all fixed I'm a bit loathe to touch it again!
All I did is create [PLAYERS] and copy & paste the lines from the stars bit to the bottom of the page. Freaky, eh? |

stars also work if you copy their lines to the teams after the positonals. it will work. it works for me anyway. |

I have perhaps a daft question; if you update/change the icons for standard positions for a particular race, are those images displayed for your opponent, or are they only stored locally? |

This is my icons.ini file.
As for nobbla, the reason is that he's got to be named CHAINSAW, because that's how the client calls Nobbla when you hire it, don't ask me why.
I fixed the whole thing and now Varag, Nobbla, Fungus and the rest all work fine.
The .ini also contains the PLAYERS section with the hellfish and the temple guard of the Competitive Eaters. If you merge those lines in your PLAYERS section you should be fine (and should be able to see my team too, finally...  ).
If you have problems with Khemri and Ramtut, just replace the lines with your old Khemri and Ramtut ones, because I'm using different Khemri icons.
Basically, test your races in stand alone and replace your INI section with mine where yours doesn't work.
