Vampires are cool and sexy. If you find yourself in a vampire story, try to become one as soon as possible but be sure to put on a good angst to avoid stakes. Also be sure to wear expensive sunglasses.

Added, but looking for things that appear in generic fantasy, Warhammer, D&D, etc.....

Vampire entry will likely be more: Bloodsucking monsters. Dress in capes, live in old castles. Nobody believes that anymore. You want a vampire in your story? Go write teen romance!

Again, not that I won't happily steal your ideas, but I'm looking for the items, rather than the entries Cool

Barbarians
Female barbarians with superarmour fur bikinis
Trinkets
Artifacts
Evil Necromancers (not the other kind)
Duck of doom

And my special favourite, the Demon in Conan that can only be injured by smashing the mirrors around him. Why the hell would he have mirrors around him if that's all he can be killed from....

I don't think wights and wraiths are the same. One is solid the other is ethereal (I believe). Certainly fairly different in LOTR anyway.

Well, in LoTR both are the spirits of men long dead, still around due to dark magic. The Ringwraiths HAVE bodies, but they can be destroyed without killing them. In most fantasy they mean whatever the author feels like, unlike, say, a skelton, which has a pretty solid definition.

LOTR:

Wight, in Anglo-Saxon, is simply a term for "a man". Tolkien nicked it. Smile

Wraith, according to Tom Shippey (the best person to read on Tolkien, even if he is a adulterous shit) is etymologically derived from words meaning to writhe, twist, hence a twisted thing, mishapen.

And yeah, I know quite a but about the genre, so drop me a PM if you want to chat to someone who works in this area. Pyth

Sorry, Palandt, I feel those are a bit more about games in general than fantasy in particular.
