S.N.A.F.U.
(Subsequent Nuffle Amorical Football Union)

*The quick overview*

20 teams, in 4 team conferences + At least 10 league games
Already established teams welcome + Weekly newsletter covering the league
2 playoff games & the Nufflebowl! + Continual league, build a dynasty!

*The detailed explanation*

-Why should I play?

The SNAFU was created to fill two holes: (1) a league that allows already-established teams and (2) a sustaining league that provides regularly scheduled games culminating in what will become a major event. Supporting this is a well organized plan of when and how things should be done so that occasional twists and turns won't bog-down or collapse the entire league. For added enjoyment, a "role-play" news report will consist on ESPN-type colourful commentary: highlights, bloopers, standings, and of course casualties. It is my sincerest hopes that the report will grow to be at least half as entertaining as the GLN, though for purposes of practicality, not as lengthy.

-Which rules are you using?

The rules are defined by the Living Rulebook; this goes for playable races as well. (ONLY: Amazons, Chaos, Chaos Dwarves, Dark Elves, Dwarves, Goblins, Halflings, High Elves, Humans, Khemri, Lizard Men, Necromantic, Norse, Nurgle's Rotters, Orcs, Skaven, Undead, and Wood Elves)

-How is the league structured?

The SNAFU league consists of 20 starting franchises (teams). These franchises will be placed in divisions based on geographical location (via GMT) as best as possible for scheduling purposes. The season is 10 weeks long, consisting of 8 division games and two interdivisional games. The best team from each of the four divisions will meet in the playoffs. In the unlikely even of a divisional tie, the playoff position will be decided by a divisional final. The playoffs are one-and-out elimination games, with the two winning teams meeting in the Nufflebowl! After the Nufflebowl, there will be a four week break referred to as "the pre-season" before the next season begins. SNAFU franchises *WILL* carry over to the next season, and no new teams will be accepted unless a SNAFU franchise dissolves, at which time a drawing will be held between the reserve teams. During the preseason the SNAFU league reserves the right to introduce expansion teams and divisions into the league if it is felt that it can support them without affecting game play.

-What are the scheduling and reporting requirements?

It is the responsibility of each coach to schedule their weekly game with their opponent. If the week ends without the scheduled game being played, both teams will be awarded with a loss in the division standings. All SNAFU games are to be reported to FUMBBL in the usual manor, as well as sending an email to snafu_league@yahoo.com with a copy of the zipped results attached as well.

-What happens if a franchise drops out during the season?

Drop outs will be handled on an individual basis. The results may range from an excused exit without penalty (EX: family and school issues), up to and including permanent expulsion of the coach from all SNAFU league play. Coaches who need to quit are recommended to send an email explaining their withdrawal to snafu_league@yahoo.com. We're all in this to have fun, but its no fun when someone quits halfway through the season because their team is getting the snotling kicked out it. We also understand that there are some circumstances beyond your control. Just be courteous and let us know, that's all we ask. Smile

As for the empty space in the tournament brackets, it may be filled with a replacement team if early enough in the season. The replacement team will assume the record of the withdrawn team in regards to standings. If a coach withdraws late in the season, the league reserves the right to give the remaining "would-be" opponents, scheduled to play the missing team, a bye.

-Are non-SNAFU games allowed during the season? *YES!*

Originally I thought no- once in the SNAFU league a team could only play SNAFU scheduled games. Then I thought to myself, "Self- this the Blood Bowl!" In the world of Blood Bowl, teams are trying to scrape together a living by playing. So feasibly they'd play as many "pick-up" games as they could even during the season. As you well know there is an inherent risk every time a team goes out on the field, even with an apothecary or regeneration. So if a coach wants to risk next week's starting line-up for a quick pick-up game, so be it. Just remember that a loss in a pick-up game might not affect your SNAFU standings, any casualties received in a pick-up game will deffinately affect your SNAFU roster!

-What are the registration guidelines?

19 team spots are officially open. Entry is NOT entirely on a first-come basis. Established teams that have played at least 3 games will be slightly favored over brand-spanking new ones without a record (so if you're team is new, then get out there and play a few quick!). This decision is to keep in line with the Blood Bowl universe. The original NAF crumbled, and open tournaments popped up everywhere. This heir to the NAF league is a continuation along that timeline. Therefore there would be open tournament veteran teams joining the league.

Nurgle's Rotters, Khemri, and Elves are also in the Living Rulebook. Can we also apply for membership with these teams? I hope so...

Pages 50 to 54... no mention of Nurgle's Rotters or Khemri. As for elves, all 3 are listed: Dark, High, and Wood.

How is the interdivisional matches going to be implemented? As far as I know, the groups on fumbbl doesn't give the opportunity to schedule matches between tournaments... You can't even go round robin twice without making a new tournament with the same teams and then edit the scores to the already accumulated number of points.
I'm just curious as to how you were planning on doing this, because maybe I have overlooked something in the fumbbl groups Wink

I will be advising league members every Sunday by 11pm EST (GMT -5) who their opponent will be. As for scheuling the entire league, I've already got the schedules laid out in a spreadsheet. Finally- by interdivisional matches I was refering to the 4 divisions in the SNAFU league. Think of it like the American NFL: NFC East and West, and AFC East and West.

To further use the example above, continental europeans will be in the AFC East, UK players in the AFC West. In the Americas, eastern and central Timezones will be in the NFC East, Pacific time zones, Aussies, NewZealanders, etc. would be in the NFC West. Again, these designations are subject to change when all of the teams have been selected. If there aren't any UK teams for example, then we would put some continental europeans and ETZ AMericans in the AFC West. It's really not that difficult when you think about it. Wink So in the end, interdivisional would mean that you'll play two games outside of your normal group. These will again be scheduled so as to provide the largest overlaping "game time". There's little point if scheduling a game if neither team can play because of drastic time differences (12am one place, 12pm at the other).

The only times there might be some timezone difficulty is in the playoffs and for the Nufflebowl. Playoffs will be inter-confrence for its AFC East vs West, and NFC East vs. West (minor time differences). The Nufflebowl on the otherhand might be an Aussie vs a Scot, so the two teams will really have to work to find time to play. I'm just trying to make the league flexible enough for anyone to play, no matter where they ar in the world or what time it is there. Very Happy
