And so we begin ...

Quote:
BLOOD POLO RULES

Before you start, read the rules at least once so you have some idea what you are doing. Lay out the board and assemble the players. Each coach will also need a Stable, details of her team and a set of counters. Each coach should place her Stable behind one of the Goals. This shows which Goal belongs to which team. You score a goal by carrying or hurling the snotling through the opposing team's Goal.

Each coach should place a Turn marker in the First Half square on the turn track, and a Score counter in the Score track on their Stable. Finally, each coach should refer to their team roster to see how many Re-roll counters their team has and should place that many counters on the Re-roll track of the Stable.

Flip the Blood Polo coin or roll a dice to see who will set up first. Each coach must set up 5 players (5 riders and 5 steeds), or as many as they have in Reserves, between their Goal and the halfway line. At least one player must set up adjacent to the centre spot.

If you cannot set up any players you must concede the match (see page xx).

THE LAUNCH

After both teams have set up, the game begins with the Snotling being launched into play by catapult. The Snotling is always aimed at the hex containing the centre spot. Roll two dice to see how accurate the catapult is:

2–3 — Snotling scatters 2d6 hexes in a random direction
4–5 — Snotling scatters d6 hexes in a random direction
6–8 — Snotling is bang on target!
9–10 — Snotling scatters d6 hexes in a random direction
11–12 — Snotling scatters 2d6 hexes in a random direction

If the Snotling lands in an empty hex, it will crawl one hex in a random direction before stopping (see Crawling Snotling, page xx). If the Snotling lands on a hex occupied by a player, the player must try to impale the Snotling in mid-air (see Mid-air Impaling, page xx). If the Snotling scatters or crawls off the field of play, a new Snotling must be launched by the catapult crew. Once the launch is complete, the team that set up second begins the first turn of the game!

The Snotling is never killed by the catapult launch. (It has a parachute!)

Good synonyms for "roster" and "coach" are welcome.

Maybe there should be 7 players rather than 5? We can only find out in testing!

Coming next ... Actions!
