If you're going to create logos for custom league. Might I suggest to simplify things that you...we....use those helmets that guy made a few months back? That way they're generic and simpler to do. They're not SVG, but I doubt we have many SVG artists anyway.

Should we let anyone make them?
it's ~ 70 logos

Just open up for anyone to submit logo suggestions, then you keep the good ones.

I might like to have a crack at a handfull of them.

Helmets are used for teams, not races. This wouldn't be good fluff.

They don't need to be svg, just png like the sites ones

(awaiting approval)
Probably far away from being good enough to be used, but I wanted to have a try at making one. Clan Eshin seemed like an easy one.

Any suggestions? Should it have a clearer white outline? I couldn't find a thread about how the regular race logos were made so I just messed around a bit in GIMP.

edit 1/2/3: (pfff cleaning up pictures needs your full attention apparently)

Originally they were I believe, though I could be wrong. Then sized. However as I am typing I'm doubting this. I always thought they were and why it's such a specialist market.

naa, just png in 6 different sizes. I think there was talk of SVG for them and the icons at one point, but I dont think anything came of it

I prefer the top one. It's pretty cool.

Yes cleaning pictures is a royal pain.

The logos made were done on more specialist software by graphic designers. I thought (though apparently not) that they were Vector images so they could be sized without losing detail. So how images scale is important.

Fair enough on the helmets, it's a valid point. Thought they would be easier and uniform.

they are ok, they are too rough around the edges though, specifically the black is quite pixelated.

To get around this you need to work at a higher resolution, then when complete downsize them to the size you want, using bi-qubic sharpening in the resize options. You can also you a smudge/blur tool to give it an anti aliasing effect.

OK, thanks for the tips. I'll have another go at a higher resolution. I'm just messing around a bit (and learning GIMP) but let's see if I can it to good enough or not. I can always use them as my own team logos.

For your info, the LRB6 logos were primarily made in Adobe Illustrator (a vector based drawing program). After the core design was completed, the image was finished off in Photoshop. Specifically, the border (The light border and the dark outline) was done in Photoshop because it works better that way.

From an open source perspective, Inkscape is the equivalent to Illustrator much like GIMP is the equivalent of Photoshop.

The site expects PNG images for logos, so that's the end result you want to shoot for in whatever way you prefer.

The original logos by Fouly and Qaz were done as vector images, but were saved as png images for the site at each size. The upside is they can always go back and make them as big as they want and they retain a certain concise look from logo to logo. The downside is it is a lot more work and skill to do.

OK, well that probably explains why I have such a terrible time doing it in GIMP (and proves I'm a gfx noob). Inkscape... not sure I'll be able to learn that anytime soon.
Any chance of Fouly/Qaz/someone else having a go at Secret League?
