So Contagious Plague beat Les Vent-Marcheur. Close one, little unlucky for Chaos in 2nd half. A failed GFI ruining it for them twice. This means that whoever wins the FC, I don't get to win the pickers' challenge! So I can root for the Crossdressers wholehearredly. Very Happy

Bob: Get ready for the final match of Fumbbl Cup XIII, folks! The finalists have been decided and negotiations for the time of the game are already underway. But while we are waiting there is a special guest here with us, you wanna do the honors Jim?

Jim: Sure thing, Bob. For our pre-game analysis we have invited prof. Pavel Pavlovich from the Petrograd academy of physical education in Kislev to join us. You are a bit of a coach yourself, Pavel?

Pavel: Its nothing really, just a amateur regional team. We play to keep ourselves warm during the winter and sometimes hunt down some marauders. This matchup you invited me to comment on is much more interesting.

Bob: Indeed, this match is looking out to be a real corker. So, what are your thoughts on the teams?

Pavel: Yes, lets get to the business. The Contagious Plague looks like a very unorthodox team coming from the blackbox division. Not saying they can't be brutal, but they seem to have picked up a lot of skills that don't directly help injure opponents. Instead they are a classic fast&slow team. What I mean is the team is split into two different roles. Most of the team are going to tie down the opponent into a mud fight, where they try to hold both themselves and their opponents in place. Meanwhile, the fast pestigors lurk behind and wait for the opportunity, and if there is an opening they can pounce on the ballcarrier from very far away. Have you seen the legs on those beastmen?

Bob: Indeed, I have. Those things can really run. So now for another pair of pretty legs, what about the Crossdressers?

Pavel: Those are some very formidable women, and not just to make it this far in the tournament. In my country the only women I have seen with muscles like that are the ballerinas of the imperial company. They have grace, balance and they punch really hard, trust me on this one, I know. The blitzers can negate the raw strength advantage of nurgle, and the entire team really likes to fight together. They have good chances of staying upright when they are hit and winning at scrum engagements. And they have specialists for most things regarding the ball, who can either keep it safe or knock it free given a chance. They are also able to pump up the crowd to their side and they are getting some sizeable inducement money too, for what it is worth.

Jim: So thats the teams, what about the coaches?

Pavel: Certainly the persona of the coach has a big impact on the team. Huff seems like the sort of person who is always willing to bet the lives of each player on the line to get the win. He will push his players to taking hits for the team, so they can force an error from the opponent. But he is certainly well matched by Dhaktokh, who is a very wily veteran of many major tournaments. He doesn't make many mistakes, but more importantly always recovers fast if something bad happens. He is also very good at playing the mind of his opponent, distracting them with light banter while cutting their purse.

Bob: Sounds about right to me, he's certainly stolen a few games from right under the nose of the opponent. So, do you have a prediction on how the match will go?

Pavel: I cannot say for sure, as there are some major coaching decisions to be made before the game. But I can say this much, that if the armor on both teams holds up equally well, we can expect to see a very interesting positional match. Both teams have a lot of skills for a good upright match. One last thing to look for is the number 42%, which is the average rate out for players not escaping from tentacles. It could lead to some very interesting situations on the pitch.

Bob&Jim: Thanks for that Pavelski, now lets go the ABC to grab a few pints and place some bets.

**Bob & Jim FUMBBL CUP Review**

Jim: Good evening Blood Bowl fans! We have the second finalist too!
Bob: Absolutely, Jim. Nurgle made it again. Let's go back and check how they made it this far.
Jim: All right Bob. There we go!

I'll start the bidding with 650.
liquidorange wrote: Cup Cakes vs. Royal Cookie Crumble is 1440 in inducements. I didn't bother looking after that, though there may be larger TV gaps out there (but probably not many).

Coach Malimir is messin with my Gold Crowns... I call the first of many shenanigans brought to us by Alforfs sports book.

1 Hour until kickoff between 2 former major winners.

Coach huff Nov 13, 2014

My 5 pointer came down to technicality and was a forfeit that didn't go my way. I can't help my think shenanigans, considering how many gold crowns I put on the line. I knew Alford's sports book would have influence over games but I had no idea their reach was this far, and corruption was tied with other coaches.

Coach huff Nov 13, 2014

This reeks of Aldorf.... 'The People's Picks', pfft, get more betters to think they have a chance, then 'BAM!' All of a sudden, coaches don't have time for games or refs looking for any infraction on one team, prolly has the grounds crew in their pockets as well. Do anything for exploitable profits.

props to Alex on being a cool coach. I could tell I could hit a tourney and drink some brew with him

Contagious Plague (Nurgle) 1 vs 0 2 dodges 1 blitz (High Elf)

Contagious Plague coach comments:
I would say tents won this game for me, as they were huge in holding the opposition in place.
ST5 regening twice was pivitol going foward, I should need to stop leaving him on an island and protect him some.
Rot comes through big time with some nasty fouls and a casualty.
Definitley an enjoyable game, that wasn't decided until about turn 15. I would say worth the replay.

Are we gonna get ourselves a double header and get a game before Azure & Kam kickoff?

I might not be the biggest advocate for these events in general, but I've had fun this year when I've thrown a team in, and I've played some interesting, good quality Blood Bowl at times. Well done PC and team, a fine job of organisation.
Good luck to all that remain!
huff wrote: Right on Goo, but I can't take much credit besides showing up for the game, indeed that is the game we play at times though.
I believe Jimmy would have, to sum it up rather simply, "Nurgz gonna Nurg".

Promise your first born to Nuffle to beat argueably the best coach on the planet and he will deliver 10 fold.
Staying "Gold" dont hurt either.

Surely it wasn't worth that? Smile
All the best in the rest!

That's 2 weeks in a row they came thru with an upset (as far as betting goes)... They expect a cut, perhaps some publicity/fame will do.

Contagious Plague (Nurgle) 1 vs 0 Les Vent-Marcheurs (Chaos)
Les Vent-Marcheurs coach comments:
Great match against nice but ugly nurgs!
First half-time
I receive first. My plan was to bypass the warriors on the LoS to attack on the side. First blocks didn't work well, so I prefered to stay on the LoS trying to win the blocks battle thanks to my guards. It took time but it finally worked. I had an opportunity to build a good side-attack, I tried it despite the lack of players to keep the ball safe enough. It almost worked, but some failed rolls made it harder, and I finally decided to do not take care of the score to do not give nurg two rolls to have their KO's back.
0-0
Second half-time
That strategy worked, the best warriors were still KO and the second half seemed very easy. But my BC (Dada) was injured in the 8th turn. She usually is my last defender, keeping the back of the pitch.
The first turns of this half worked well, I had early a chance to blitz 2d his BC, just needed one gfi... snake. Maybe I should have moved my Golgoth back as a security before trying that 2+ roll. I think I was overconfident. But as JimmyFantastic said: Well maybe you are like me and don't like to blame the luck hehe.
It was an easy TD for the nurgs, but I put pressure to avoid a stall.
0-1
So I receive without my favorite BC, but my ag4 CW is used to replace her. The attack seems pretty easy, nurg warriors fell into a trap, trying to block one side of the pitch, but I have enough time to move on the other side. The 8ma pestigors are coming back, they reached my BC and get a pow 1d, bounce placed the ball farther from the endzone. But I only need some blocks, pick up 2+ and 2 gfi's to equalize. And again, 2 gfi's are failed.
0-1
OT may have been pretty easy, nurgs were outnumbered and I still had my CW's and guards on the pitch. It made me feel like DukeTyrion when he failed a similar move during our 6th round match. I was frustrated but fatalistic.
I've made some mistakes, I was surely overconfident. But the 2 snakes didn't help at all.
Huff played well, of course. And his team is nicely built. I can blame the dices, but I have to congrats him about this match, and his FC run.
About my FC run
My wish was to demonstrate that a versatil chaos team, with the right skills, and adequately well coached, can run far in a tournament, not only relying on Cpomb to make the matches easier.
For example, the round against smallman was a great positional match. Tacklers and guards helped me a lot to win against those DE while making only one cas. The next round was against Cpombers and my chaos only made one cas too.
Chaos is a nice roster to build up. Their lack of skills at low TV is their best strength to be versatil at high TV, if you pick some useful skills.
Malmir was pretty funny, saying he didn't want to see a team like mine winning the FC. He has lost against claw+mb chaos, but he played in a so weird way that he has lost without understanding why (only blaming Cpombs when you give lots of blocks without using your guards, it's funny).
During the whole run I tried to be optimistic, I've watched lots of replays of my opponents to understand their playing and to find the way to "punish" them on their weaknesses. By this way some of my matches could see very easy (and lots of coaches will only think about "cpomb"), but strategy is the greatest part of the wins. I don't want to be pretentious, just trying to point that Cpomb is not the key of my wins, even if it helps in some cases. If you are relying on cpomb to win, surely you won't win all those matches, against DE, orcs, nurgs, chaos. That's my humble opinion.
Thanks
I have to thank a lot of people about this FC run.
Thanks to every opponent I've faced, they all tried their best, were positive and almost didn't complain about the match-ups or the way the have won/lost.
Thanks particulary to JimmyFantastic, for being a great "lucky charm", at least until the semi-final Smile
Thanks to every coach who supported me or my team. You were great fans!
And congrats to smallman and DukeTyrion, imo they were my best two opponents (about team and coach skills).
And congrats to Huff for winning the FC final against Dhaktokh!
