Hi all!

Let me introduce to you the OBBL. This is a new league that we designed last summer when custom rosters were released by Christer. Due to RL issues, other FUMBBL related projects and a need from my side to take a break as a comish for a while, this league has been waiting to go live for 8 months! wow! Time goes by really fast!. Anyway...it is now ready to go live!

We don't have a Group Page to show you yet. We have one but still work in progress. We haven't written the final ruleset for you to check. Ruleset is essentially finished in our notes, but we felt a bit overwhelmed when trying to put it together in a few sentences...and this is why we start this thread!

OBBL is an attempt to continue and evolve the elements that myself and deathroller have been experimenting in past leagues we run. With custom rosters, we can go futher in experimenting with these:

1. Large pool of players available for coaches to choose from instead of race and positional limits.
2. Large rosters to enhance "in-game" experience.
3. Empower Team Managment meta-game.

So, as i said, we don't have a final ruleset put together to show you yet...and this is why this thread. We will explain the rules and league mechanics in different posts over the next days. We thought that in this way, it would be easier for us to explain all elements of this league and at the same time easier for the reader to diggest.

Additionally, you may consider this thread as a recruiting drive too. However, please take your time to read through all posts before making a decision. So, you have plenty of time as it will take us a few posts and days, even one or two weeks, to go through all elements.

Finnally, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to use this thread to post your comments and enquires or PM us.

Back in 2274, CABLEVISION didn't exist. Its technology was unknown to the world. Only RADIOWAVE was available, and only the richest people could afford one of those "speaking" devices.
BLOOD BOWL was played locally within friends or to settle village rivalaries. a Pro Blood Bowl League? No way...not even any other Pro Sports were known. Those were the old ways in the old days...but a man, a visionary called Jhon McNulty, could forsee the potential of this precious game called Blood Bowl as a pro sport.
OBBL was in the making. He traveled all over the old world seeking for teams ready to go pro. Funds were...well, how to say it politely... rare?. He had not much to offer to anyone willing to go pro...but still he continued his search.
He managed to convince a few teams...like these ones here! ok, we know...they were not Chaos All-Stars level really...but those were the first teams joining OBBL. Players all passion for the game, ready to pay for its own expenses as teams could not afford to pay them a salary...Team treasury back then was....0k gold coins....*ouch*
The rest is history...OBBL was a huge success! Money slowly but surely started flowing in season after season. Teams become richer, players more professional and phisically ready for this brutal sport.
Jhon McNulty did a fantastic job in making the game as popular as we know it is now. He introduced lots of revolutionary things to the sport like B.S.T (Bionic Skilling treatment) for players, allowed weapons, 18 players rosters, reserves/injury lists, free agent market, recruits, trades...

Are you ready to travel back to 2274 and take over one of the original OBBL franchises? Are you ready to make your team a multi-milion worth powerhouse from that miserable, moneyless original team?

1. INTRODUCTION TO OBBL: Rules & Mechanics.

OBBL "in-game" rules are CRP basically. We will include a couple of minor House Rules like +1 to Fouls but essentially OBBL is based on CRP ruleset for "in-game" rules.

The main changes will be in the Skill up sequence and Team Managment related stuff.

Skill up sequence will be 0,16,32,48,64,80,96 and 112 (*). We introduce the 0 (zero) spp skill up value. How does a 0 spp works? A player will always get a skill up once he finishes his first game.

There are many changes to Team managment compared to CRP: Team treasury, B.S.T, trades and so on. It is not the aim of this introduction to go through all these changes. These will be covered in later posts.
However, there is one thing that we want to explain in here. In OBBL, you ,as a coach and General manager of your Franchise , will have access to many resources like new Recruits, Free Agents, Skills (B.S.T), weapons, Trades, Team Apos, RR and so on. Nevertheless, you will need MONEY to get them!. You have to BUY these resources. Money/Team Treasury Managment is essential in this league. Most of this league mechanics will spin around money/team funds managment. Lots of toys available but they all cost money! (except for some trades where players exchange will be allowed).
And you know what? your starting treasury is 0k gold coins and a very humble bunch of players like these ones here...Can you turn out a poor team like that with no resources into a multi milion worth powerhouse filled with ST5 and AG4 super players?

2. INITIAL ROSTER

***Overview

This is your Initial roster. 18 brave local players who volunteer to join your team! Choose the 15 who will make the team. They cost 0 gold coins as you can't afford to pay them a salary. From now on, We will call them LOCAL PLAYERS.

All OBBL players are unique players. Therefore, they count as (0-1) for roster slot considerations and so, coaches are not allowed to buy 2 identical players.

At team creation, each coach has to decide what skill up categories will each player get on normal or double rolls (LEGAL ACTIVE ROSTER rules apply here).

***Legal Active Roster

Active roster must meet the following criteria:

(1+) STRENGHT Players
(2+) PASS Players
(3+) AGILE Players
(4+) GENERAL Players
(0-1) MUTANT Player

where
STRENGTH PLAYER = gets strenght skills on normal roll + GAP on doubles
PASS PLAYER = gets pass skills on normal roll + GAS on doubles
AGILE PLAYER = gets agile skills on normal roll + GSP on doubles
GENERAL PLAYER = gets general skills on normal roll + ASP on doubles
MUTANT PLAYER = gets mutation skills on normal roll + GASP on doubles

and
(1+) means that minimum one player in that category. (2+) means minimum 2 players and so on

***Other items at Team creation

1. Team treasury = 0 gold coins
2. Team Re-Rolls: Yes. Zero RR at team creation. Thereafter = Maximum 5 RR per team. Cost = 80k each RR.
3. Team Apo: Yes. Not available at team creation. Therafter = 50k
4. Fan factor = 0 at team creation
5. Assistant Coaches: Not allowed
6. Cheerleaders: Not allowed

3. TEAM FINANCE

***Overview

Money is essential in OBBL. You will need money to buy any of the multiple items you will have in offer. The aim is NOT to gather big amounts of money for the sake of it. The aim is to earn money so your Franchise can buy new players and other items that will help your team to improve and to be successful on the pitch.

***Where does the money come from?

1. Winnings after a game. This is the money that FUMBBL client allocates to your team automatically after a game. This is automatic and money goes straight to your TEAM TREASURY. Nothing new here.

2. Tournament Prizes. Once a tournament ends, all teams will get a sum of money as a reward for their performance in the tourney. This money will be transfered from the league to the team's account in THE ROYAL GOBLIN BANK OF THE SWAMPS .
All cash transfers through THE ROYAL GOBLIN BANK OF THE SWAMPS are closely monitored by OBBL league Officials (in other words, This Money does NOT go to your Team Treasury, so The League will keep track manually in an excel file and will publish updates at the end of each tourney).

3. Player Trades. Players are tradeable. In exchange teams will be able to get:

a) Money
b) Players
c) a mix of Money and players

What a team gets in compensation for a trade is up to the teams involved in the trade. However, when money is involved, THE ROYAL BANK OF THE SWAMPS will be used to make cash transfers. OBBL Officials will update team account balances once the trades are approved and made official by the League.

***What money can buy?

a) Team Re-Rolls (max 5)
b) Team Apo
c) Recruits (Pro Players)
d) Free Agents
e) Trading for Players
f) Weapons
g) Skills (also known as B.S.T)

***When do i use Team Tresuary or my account in the Royal Bank of the Swamps for payments?

a) Use TEAM TREASURY to buy Team Re-Rolls and Team Apo. You DON'T need to communicate these purchases to League Officials. You can do it when you feel like.

b) Anything else, You MUST communicate with League Officials and keep team in PENDING.
Both, Team Treasury or Bank funds may be used to complete the transaction. Sounds complicated? don't worry, League Official will guide you through the process. Just remember this, for anything that is not RR or Apo, communicate with League Admin and keep your team in pending.

4. LET'S GO SHOPPING!: Price list & Rules. (Part 1)

***Overview

Money will let you buy different things in OBBL. Let's check which goodies are for grabs, how much they cost and how they work.

***What money can buy?

a) Team Re-Rolls (max 5)
b) Team Apo
c) Recruits (Pro Players)
d) Weapons
e) Skills (also known as B.S.T)
f) Trading for Players
g) Free Agents

***Price List & Rules

a) Team Re-Rolls. 80k
*Max. 5 per team

4. LET'S GO SHOPPING!: Trades & Free Agents. (Part 2)

***Trading Players

*You may trade players for Money and/or in exchange of other players
*Teams involved in the trade MUST comunicate to League officials the terms of the deal for approval.
*League may VOID a trade if the value paid for a player goes over 150% the book value (or real value) of this player. Sounds complicated, right? Ask us and we will explain you internally, not as complicated as it sounds though Wink

IMPORTANT:
*When a player moves from a team to another it will lose 1 skill for 1 game as he needs time to get familiar with the new playbook, city, blablabla (in reality due to the ZERO SPP)
*After this 1st game with the new team he gets the skill back. You may choose to assign a different skill than before, no problem.
*Players will lose all SPP if traded. Actually, they may lose 1-15 SPP maximum. As skills are carried over to the new team and skill up sequence goes in steps of 16 spp, 1-15 SPP is the max you may lose in the process.
*Book value will be the one assigned to the player traded in his new team.

***Free Agents Market

*Players may be waived eventually to make room in the 15 men roster for new players.
*Team will keep the rights on waived player for 5 games.
*Team will be able to re-sign (call up) a waived player for FREE during this 5 games period. An empty roster spot must be available.
*Team will be able to equal any offer coming from another team on this player during this 5 game period. If teams equals offer and keeps player, an empty spot must be available for this player be activated in the starting 15 line up.
*After this 5 games period, Waivers will be considered Unrestricted Free Agents and may be found in the Free Agent market looking for a new team.
*When signing a free Agent you can assign him with a new Skill Up category.

***Final words on trading & free agency

In all cases make sure that you meet the LEGAL ROSTER criteria for your starting 15 line up.

5. SKILL UP SEQUENCE.

***Sequence

*0,16,32,48,64,80,96 and 112. We introduce the 0 (zero) spp skill up value. How does a 0 spp works? A player will always get a skill up once he finishes his first game

***Maximum Skills

*A player can get a max of 8 skills.
*A player must RETIRE once he gets the 8th skill. Those 8 skills may come from both, learned skills or B.S.T (Skills Shop). Doesn't matter where the skills come from, once a player gets the 8th skill must retire and becomes a STAR PLAYER for the team.
*Team will be componsated for 100% of the money spent when moving (retiring) a player to STAR PLAYER condition.
*New Star Player will be worth his book value (real TV as per CRP) and available as an inducment for the team he belonged to.

6. HOUSE RULES & INDUCEMENTS

***House Rules

*CRP
*Different House Rules may be activated/desactivated from one tourney to the other

***Inducements

*Cards = No but they may be allowed in specific tournements
*Star Players = See "Skill up sequence ruling"
*Mercs = Yes
*Other = Yes (This includes babes, apo, bribes, RR and Master Chef)

6. LEAGUE STRUCTURE

***Timezone

*EURO Timezone. You'd be expected to play between roughly 18.00 to 23.00 server time

***Deadlines

*10 days rolling deadline per round. Rolling means that we count 10 days from the day last game of a round was played

***Tournement/Season Length

*Depending on number of teams
*Rule should be 4 to 7 rounds per tourney/season

***BREAKING NEWS from OBBL***

3 teams have already sent their application cards. A few other teams have showed interest in joining soon. Teams that have applied are:

Kemperbad Smashers
Town Hall Tavern
Marienburg Bloodthirsters

1-2 more teams sorting out paperwork.

Keep them coming!

PS: We plan to start with a not too big number of teams in season 1. So,. once we finish explaining the rules and creating the custom rosters, OBBL will go live whatever the number of teams we have. Around 10 days for kick off

Just FYI... I'm pretty sure that the City in Reikland is Kemperbad with a "p" not Kemberbad with a "b"
