It seems counter-intuitive at first, but on reflection it's actually more counter-intuitive if you don't move and the roll GFI... otherwise, if you roll first, what square do you fall down into (and what if it's occupied)?

I guess it gets even more fun if you roll that extra square and go off the pitch - I guess you must roll GFI still? Or not...

If you go off the pitch, you are just beat up by the crowd.

But if we wanna talk about where the rules really breaks then:

What happens when a Ball&chain has the block skill, wants to GFI and rolls both down on the block dice.
Then you per the rules have not moved an extra square, and have therefore not made a GFI.
You can rule, it have "tryed", but there is no extra square, so theres no roll for it. And since the rules says you can try to move 1 or 2 extra squares - NOT have 2 tries to do a GFI. You should be able to keep rolling Both Down, until you move an extra Square.

GFI Rule:
GOING FOR IT!
When a player takes any Action apart from a Block, he may try to
move one or two extra squares
over and above the number that
he is normally allowed to move – this is called ‘going for it’ or
GFI. NOTE: if a rule refers to a player’s ‘normal movement’ do
not include the one or two GFI squares.

Roll a D6 for the player after he has moved each extra square.
On a roll of 1 the player trips up and is Knocked Down in the
square that he moved to. Roll to see if he was injured (see page
11). On any other roll the player moves without mishap. If the
player is Knocked Down then his team suffers a turnover and
their turn ends immediately.

I dont think anyone is disputing that, i think where this could be interpreted is ball and chains movement and the "normal movement rules" in which you cant move to an occupied square.

that said the rule writer confirmed it is a bug
