Hi guys

I'm going to my first ever ressurection tournament, and I'm pretty unsure of what to expect. I have played in several leagues, but I suspect that its not the same, when you don't have to consider spps, injuries, long temm planning and so on.

So I'm looking for some advice to make my tournament as enjoyable as possible Smile

It's TV1000, 2 skills (1 of 4 games, one can be a doubleskill).

My roster
2 Blitzers
2 Catchers
1 Thrower
6 Lineelfs
3 rr

So how should I approach the games - and what skills can help me?

Mt own thoughts are to score as quickly as possible (Its Pro Elves!), and spend the rest of the game in defense - looking for an opportunity to steal the ball, rather than "fighting it out"...

But is there a better way?

Thanks for all input.

Cheers,
Peter

Wouch that's tight. I mean really really tight. Tight like an innocent ...... I can't finish the analogy and stay within within site rules, but really really TIGHT. Both in cash and skills.

Firstly I offer you a theme tune:

Next I approve player choices. And reroll number.

Quote:

I don't understand that sentence I'm afraid. But skill choices:

Blitzers with dodge can annoy the hell out of anyone.
Catchers with block rock big time.
'Leader caddy' thrower isnt a bad idea in such a tight enviroment.
An ag4 guard can always find something to do.
strip ball on a blitzer/catcher can be useful or utterly irrelevant, it's a gamble.
Kick 'can' turn every kick off into a semi blitz, separating the ball and the majority of the team.

But for exact advice the skill options need to be stated more clearly.

As to style:

Yes, but that sounds quite a dull way to spend 4 games. If you factor in that your fragile elven folk are immortal, then you can look for opportunities to 'swamp' the offence and steal the ball. Because that means a win, and because it's what the cool kids do.

Assuming most teams will be short on rerolls even a norse/dorf fails 1/6 of 1 die rolls. str4 blockless fail 1/9 2 die rolls. You are elves, you can win short handed. So don't be afraid to go banzai and step to the opponent, caging can be tough at low TV for any team if they start the turn with 9 or 10 in contact, and with go anywhere catchers and ag4/block(blodge) blitzers that can SS into optimum positions, hitting the Ball Carrier and taking back your ball is achievable.

Of course not every time, and finding the right time to gird your loins and go postal on his(her) ass, and when to sit and chill and play tetris-build-a-wall one small step from him/her is the money shot for pro elves, possibly even more than woodies.

Salty beard wearing RL tourney vets might try to tempt you to the dark side talking of 'one turn builds'. Don't even listen. They will Rohypnol your drink and before you know it you will be the star of a new 'tryout' video on the darker corners of the web.

Games should be won while both coaches are active. Every one turn TD means I kill a kitten. You all know that, so if kittens die it's on YOU. I don't want to strangle them, YOU make me.

Anyway, Good luck. And stay Purple.

I expect you're talking about Giant Fanatic in Copenhagen next week? You get that it's two skills before each game, right? So two skills, then four, then six, then eight.

You can stack skills as well.

I am talking about GF, and no, I didn't know the skills were stacked, since I thought the team was totally resurrected after each game.

But thanks for telling me - It doesn't make it any easier though Laughing

Purple is the way to go! Very Happy

Thanks for your input.

Even though I have misunderstood the amount of skills I get, I think your advice is very good.

It's true that the game can be a bit boring (for me) when my opponent has the ball in 15 of 16 turns. But as you point out, it might be alright to be more aggressive because if my players get injured or die, it will only be bad in the current game, and that's a new consideration for me.

About skills, as I understand it:
Game 1: Two skills, one can be a double
Game 2: As in game 1, plus two new normal skills
Game 3: As game 2 plus two new normal skills
Game 4: As game 3, plus two new normal skills.

Strip ball doesn't work, and one player can have no more than two extra skills.

So in game 1 I have to decide which double-skill I want, and then go for the ones you have suggested (except I really love Frenzy, so one Blitzer has to have that Wink)

The rule pack's wording is also a bit vague.
I'm no expert, but here's my two cents.

The roster is okay. I'd maybe loose a reroll for an apo.

Off the top of my head, I'd go maybe:

game 1:
catcher with dump off
dodge on blitzer

game 2:
Leader on thrower
dodge on the other blitzer

game 3:

maybe leap + wrestle on the other catcher

OR

wrestle or dodge on the catcher and kick/block/wrestle on a lineman

game 3:

wrestle or block on two linemen

Then my skill picks would be:

1:
Catcher1 guard.
Blitzer1 Dodge/tackle

2:
Cacther2 Block
Blitzer1 Tackle/dodge

3:
Cacther2 Dodge/Leap
Blitzer2 Dodge

4:
Thrower Leader
Catcher1 Block/Line Elf Kick/Line Elf Wrestle

BlodgeSS rocks synergy, so both Blitzers aim for that. You need a tackler early. AV7 guard may as well be the catcher to go anywhere. Leader would be nice to have earlier but 3 is a fair start for rerolls.

Invest in the best and let the linefodder take the hits.

Here are how I would skill them.

Game 1: Dodge on both blitzers.

Game 2: Block and Dodge on one catcher

Game 3: Leader on a thrower and Wrestle on the other catcher

Game 4: Dodge on the other catcher and tackle on a blitzer.
or
Leap and tackle on a blitzer.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I'll try to make a plan beforehand, but since you choose skills, after you know your next opponent I'll imagine it will somehow affect the skill choices.

Is Guard much better than MB? A Blitzer with MB and Tackle could be good to have, if you're up against AG teams. But maybe not as good as a Guard catcher?

For Elves, Guard is usually *much* better than Mighty Blow, since they lack strength across the board. If you were expecting to only play other elf/strength 3/low armour teams, then that might change.
