A few months ago I opened a thread for great big guy touchdowns (https://fumbbl.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=29334). I’ve now been through the best contenders, so it’s time for a poll to decide the greatest big guy touchdown, Match of the Day style!

Here are what I consider to be the best ones, but if you prefer another (which isn’t from one of your own teams), please mention it below so others are aware and we’ll count votes for that one too. Please note your vote should be purely on entertainment value – the touchdown which would have you cheering loudest from the stands, not the most mathematically efficient (let’s face it that rarely applies to big guys). Hope some of these make you chuckle; they are great fun but just in case you can’t be bothered to replay the link I’ve provided a description of each below!

1) Foularm Mauler – Minotaur
Crazy Minotaur (maysrill) vs Razorsharp Fiddlers

Foularm clears the right wing with a blitz, then turns to catch the ball. He then charges 12 squares up the rightwing splatting dark elfs as he goes. 4 dark elfs crowd around him near the endzone but can’t take him down, and he frenzies through for the score - butting one of the pointy-ears high into the crowd for his TD celebration!

2) Quickbeam – Treeman
Aver March Fieldwardens (Nightbird) vs Mc Donalds Guns

Treemen must be the least obvious scorers of all, but Quickbeam lives up to his name - he has scored 89 TDs to date! Most are short, brutal drives but this one is a gem. Trailing 1-0 and with the pesky elfs stalling for another TD, all looks lost until the Halflings blitz through the cage and knock the ball loose. It’s briefly recovered by both sides and a throw is missed by the elfs. But meantime Quickbeam anticipates the opportunity and breaks into the opposing half all alone - he turns and makes the catch! He then sprints 12 squares for the TD, none of the elfs can get near him! Presumably he was playing downhill, and rolling…

3) Farmer Giles – Troll
Maesbury Marauders (DaveH) vs White Hand

Most trolls are dim-witted oafs who you wouldn’t trust to pick their own nose, never mind handle the ball. But then there was the late, great Farmer Giles – a M6, Ag3 superhero with dodge and LEAP! In this play things look grim for the Marauders – 2-0 down and Giles only has another troll (of the nose-picking variety) and 3 goblins for company, in pretty useless positions. Giles is on the left halfway line when the ball is spilled nearby, but an orc blitzer covers it. Giles blitzes him away, makes the pickup and – forget the wing - he charges down into the centre of the orc half single-handed. 4 orcs try to bring him down but can only manage a push. A further three orcs surround him and things still look hopeless… BOIINNGG – he leaps over them and sprints another 8 squares to the endzone, leaving 7 orcs gaping in his wake! I’m not sure if this is what J.R.R Tolkien had in mind for Farmer Giles of Ham, but leaping, sprinting trolls? I’m sure he’d approve! (This is also probably the greatest comeback I’ve ever seen. To finish the game the goblins get a blitz, and despite still having only 3 goblins and 2 trolls, a pogoer manages to get the ball and leap in to draw 2-2!)

4) Rippit ‘Receiver’ Rogan - Ratogre
Clanrat Kings (PaddyMick) v Big Boy 2

An Ag 3, three-armed ratogre who thinks he’s a receiver… and incredibly, he is! Rippit cuts in from the left wing, flattens a black orc and then turns in the middle of the orc half, bellowing for the ball. Thrower Guillermo looks upfield from the shotgun position. Who to pass to, the M10 gutter runner or the ratogre? The ratogre, obviously (otherwise he will get his head bitten off in the dressing room). Rippit makes the catch, blitzes through the orc line, breaks a tackle and sprints into the endzone. Never in doubt!

5) Morg n’Thorg – Ogre
…and Chaos for All (Quarion8) v Uusiverikulho

A Major quarter final ...and Chaos for All are 1-0 down with one of the nastiest teams you'll ever see turning the screw. Looking around Morg realises that none of the wannabe stars has what it takes and a steely look enters his eye. He's Morg 'n' Thorg, the greatest blood bowl player of all time, if the team around him is collapsing he will carry them on his shoulders. He dodges into a tacklezone, picks up the ball, blitzes his way free and turns on the gas. A huge nurgle warrior wraps his tentacles around Morg in a desperate attempt to stop him but the Ballista isn't deterred and shrugs him off as he charges into the endzone.

6) Chumpo Champo - Beast of Nurgle

24th krōməˌsōm (keggiemckill) v Black Ace’s Corner Gang

Another big guy who would be about the last candidate for a TD, but in this game he scored two! This particular one must be the best Beast TD ever? Chumpo is wallowing on the LOS while the pesky Underworld players run the hell away from him. They go for a long pass over the top of him, but Chumpo sticks up a big tentacle – SCHPUCK! Chumpo now slowly drives up the pitch, pausing every now and again to look at the strange oval brown thing stuck to one of his suckers. Nope, definitely not a goblin head. He just about remembers to get all the way to the endzone before the buzzer goes, and then presumably celebrates with the messiest high five ever.

7) Giant Haystacks – Ogre
World of Wrestling (garyt1) v staderosette

A superb consolation TD by Haystacks, heavily outnumbered by a horrible Chaos team. Things look bleak here for the Wrestlers – they only have two ogres left on the pitch, and four snotlings. And the other ogre is soon stunned on the LOS. But Haystacks has other ideas – he blitzes and breaks a tackle from the LOS, goes backfield to pick up the ball, then legs it up the right wing. A snotling tries to sprint up and provide some sort of cover, but the useless little git slips and knocks himself out. Chaos players now swarm the completely isolated Haystacks, but they can’t bring him down; amazingly he evades them all and makes it all the way to the opposite corner for a great, single-handed TD.

8 ) Horny McHooves – Minotaur
McHooves and the Gang (Dunenzed) v Let try yhis!

The list wouldn’t be complete without a TD from McHooves, possibly the greatest Blackbox minotaur of all time, a minotaur so good even the team is named after him! McHooves has scored 127 TDs to date, including an incredible 8 hat-tricks, but this poll is to find the best single TD. This is my favourite from Horny’s long list – a scrappy but great defensive turnover TD. The kick-off is short and to the right, but the opposing Chaos team appear to have it sealed off by a wall of beastmen and another minotaur. McHooves has other ideas and blitzes right through to stand beside the ball. A big scrum develops with a minotaur and five opposing beastmen ganging up on McHooves, but ultimately he manages to pick it up with his third hand, and scramble it clear to score in the opposite corner.

I wasn't referring to Morg's TD, Doctor, but my memory failed me, and thought ST's BoN scored.

So it's beginning to look like a three horse race between Quickbeam, Farmer Giles and Morg... Three crackers to be sure but slightly surprised no one has voted for one or two others yet - that interception by Chumpo was beautiful? Smile

I was just browsing through the forums and remembered I started this one and then completely forgot about it! Anyway better late than never, I hereby declare Quickbeam the winner! Congratulations Nightbird - great TD and well deserved, an absolute stonker for a treeman it certainly made me laugh! If I was any good at drawing pixelly stuff the big guy ought to get a badge, but I guess he'll have to settle for the kudos instead. Just make sure he hides from Morg, who could only finish third Wink
