The Deserted Isles Blood Bowl Leeg is a weekly league for New Zealand based coaches. Coaches from elsewhere able to commit to NZ prime time (7pm - 9pm nzt) are also welcome.

Season 11 kicks off Sunday 21st January. Teams new to DIBBL can build up to 1500 TW (including treasury) with friendlies to prep for entry into the league. Can play anyone in competitive games (no all snotling teams), but cannot play the same team twice. So if you're interested, you have just under 2 weeks to get your team sorted.

One rule change is being brought in to close the gap slightly between established teams and newcomers. The treasury system is currently broken in League. No spiraling expenses, no expensive mistakes. This has meant the old timers have been able to build up massive cash reserves, so even if they get smashed they can replenish easily. Compare this to the 1500tv teams that come in with no cash at all.

Existing teams and returning teams who have not played friendlies since leaving the league:
No cap on TW. However if TV+treasury>2100k, then treasury must be cut to 100k
e.g. TW = 1950, treasury can be no more than 150k; TW = 2000, treasury can be no more than 100k; TW = 2500k treasury can be no more than 100k.
The treasury restriction is only for the first game of the season, treasury can grow freely throughout the season.

Previous seasons have seen 16 teams split over the two divisions. Top 3 of each qualify for the main finals. Structure of S11 will depend on numbers.

Boborc, our friendly bot borrowed from SWL, delivered us two cracking pools. Squishy and Breakable Division (average TV 1990k) and Temporary Placeholder Division (average TV 1800k). At first glance it seems Squishy is the tougher pool, let's have a closer look.

Squishy and Breakable Division

ImageInjury Time!!! (Foad)
TV 2770k. One time champion (S7), how did these elves get so big? A decent 300k bigger than anything else in the whole Leeg, with freaky players and a top coach, this is the hot favorite to not only take out the Division but the Cup too.
Player to watch: Superstar hitter - +MA, +ST, MB, Tackle - Minsc
Prediction: 1st in pool, Champion

ImageNekro Dance Party' (Geoffro)
TV 2020k. The wights are looking a bit green, but how about those Wolves? Who needs ghouls when you've got the speed and agility of these guys. Despite being in a tough pool I think this might be coach Geoffro's time.
Player to watch: LEGEND wolf - Blodge, +AG, SS, SH, Fend - Fenrir Wolfgar
Prediction: 2nd in pool, Runner up in Leeg

ImageAshenhall Owls (JPM)
TV 2470k. The second biggest team in the Leeg. What is it with DIBBL elves, aren't they meant to be the squishy races? A blessed run with few injuries last season, but sub par results. This will flip in S11. Elves will die and die and die, but succeed along the way. They'll make the play-offs but will be too broken once they get there to do anything of note.
Player to watch: LEGEND Speeed with grabby tree will hide on the bench and BS his way all season to 1 turners - Blaze Argenthorn
Prediction: 3rd in pool, exit first round of Playoffs

ImageOverly Refined (jevouse)
TV 1940k. Just pipped the Owls last season on tiebreaker, the reverse could well happen in S11. Frogs are an unpredictable lot though, and they'll definitely get the odd upset. It won't quite be enough to make the top 3 cut off this time.
Player to watch: Superstar M9 speed freak - Cull the Crude
Prediction: 4th in pool

ImageCrouching Saurus Hidden Skink (bigbullies)
TV 2330k. Bullies is back! Finally we get to some bash! Sauruses have been knocked about, but the nasty one is still there. A pair of decent skinks too.
Player to watch: LEGEND killer - he has piling on and a coach that's not afraid to use it. Expect some pain from greyii
Prediction: 5th in pool

ImageTransfusion Time (ramchop)
TV 1850k. After a 3 season hiatus the one time champ (S4) Vamps are back too. Showed some real rust in the first half of Waikikamukau, but are beginning to click again. However, despite best efforts, this will be a season of massive hunger. Vampires will terrorise their own team mates and rarely recall there is a ball on the pitch.
Player to watch: LEGEND hitter - Such a pretty wee thing. She has speed and a thirst for blood. Will be aiming for most cas, and to get there intends to kill her Saurus rival - Flame Princess
Prediction: 6th in pool

ImageDye Liner Harlequins (PlantingLemur)
TV 1290k. It seems that elves can go squish in DIBBL after all. They may be damaged, but they have the Shield. However, that state of affairs won't last past Round 1. These dark elves will dominate the two Chaos teams, and will throw a spanner in the works of one of two other teams' ambitions.
Player to watch: Emerging star blitzer - Not the best player in the squad, but is undamaged. And in this team, that's an achievement. This one will outshine team mates (who may die) - Blaisse Saddens
Prediction: 7th in pool

ImageWild Ex-pacts (Sharper)
TV 1730k. Slann failed hops, Vamp failed hypnos, these frustrations will pale in comparison to the Ex-Pacts' problems with their Big Guys. Oh, they'll cause pain alright, but at key game-winning moments expect them to stare blankly ahead and say "Doh!"
Player to watch: Emerging star - Now that the ball retriever has Block, he may just decide to hang onto the ball and score himself - Grumn
Prediction: 8th in pool

ImageSlaan Francisco 69ers (barberfett)
TV 1460k. Undefeated in 6 games of preseason, a great effort for a new team. A nice spread of skill too. But that was pre-school compared to what these Slaanesh are about to face. The team will continue to build nicely for season 12, but the results will not flow their way.
Player to watch: Veteran goat - While everyone will actually be watching the Cow, the key player in the squad will be this blodger, she'll have the ball more than most, and will on occassion bring it close to the endzone - Kink
Prediction: Last in pool - may see success in the Wobbly Boot

There seems to be some mistake, the Chaos Dwarfs are in the pool with the Amazons. Like, they start with six tackle. My record against, ... oh, wait, no, it's the other Chaos Dwarfs. No troubles.

View from above - Season Preview from your unbiased incorruptible Commish... continued...

Temporary Placeholder Division

ImageOtago Spirit (tussock)
TV 2330k. Long time DIBBLers, at 80 games nobody has played more - and that's without any Waikik extra games. However, despite being here forever they've never topped a pool or won the Cup Final. That will change this season when they top their pool (but get bundled out in the semis). Biggest challenge will be the Chorfs, and they will suffer on the LOS, but a season is more than just one game.
Player to watch: Superstar lino - like a terrier she'll get in there and continually pester - Tegan Hollows
Prediction: 1st in pool, beaten semi-finalist

ImagePitch Slap (mushoomy)
TV 1820k. Dead Legend in Waikikamukau! That's gotta hurt. Down to two relatively new Bulls, but the backbone of this team is on the line of scrimmage. There are some really nasty blockers up front and they will terrorise this pool. Previous champs (S3) an experienced unit.
Player to watch: Superstar blocker - most cas in Waikikamukau, will likely do the same in S11 - Leztak Bizniz
Prediction: 2nd in pool, beaten semi-finalist

ImageBack Alley Burglars (DustBunny)
TV 2310k. OGRES! Wobbly Boot regulars, believe it or not, these guys once topped a Division. While they won't reach those heights ever again, they will see a resurgence this season.
Players to watch: LEGEND, Ag3 M7 TD rushing machine Chop
LEGEND, St6 Cas blocking machine Murgatroid
Prediction: 3rd in pool, exit first round of Playoffs

ImageDisregarded Derelicts (paradocks)
TV 1950k. This team is ancient! First appeared in FUMBBL in 2004 way back in a time when cows were trolls. And their Cow/Troll will be a menace. This division is looking pretty bashy already and we're only up to #4, maybe it's not the "soft" pool
Player to watch: Star goat, Lost some speed, but there's no hurry when you bash your way to the endzone -
Picks
Prediction: 4th in pool

ImageHauraki Horrors (DDAmAge112)
TV 1610k. DDAmAge isn't one to focus on hurting stuff... well, ok yeah he is. This division is going to get bloody, really bloody. Mummies and wights, with a dash of zombie boot will be pulling their weight to add to the carnage.
Player to watch: Star wight, Mummies tend to take individual accolades for the Horrors, but it'll be a wight that shines this season - Merani Mayham
Prediction: 5th in pool

ImageTalabheim Timelords (Wozzaa)
TV 1530k. Did extremely well in season 10 making the top table play offs. Things will be a bit tougher for the humans this season and are the pick of the bunch to feel the most pain from all the bash teams above them. Despite the impending decimation, they will finish in a respectable mid-table position.
Player to watch: Superstar blitzer, will continue to show that humans can bash too, while his team mates all fall around him - Mats Tremmel
Prediction: 6th in pool

Imagemountain gorillas (pdarbs)
TV 1730k. Another team who will fare poorly on the cas balance sheet. Those gorillas need some mighty behind their blows. But the chimps have a secret weapon, and they'll find ways to become Paper and elf their way to some upset wins over Rock
Player to watch: Star chimp, a real threat to any team, leaping in to disrupt the most solid of opposition plans. There are fears he may not survive such perpetual heroics - hired help
Prediction: 7th in pool

ImageRoman Renegades (JPM)
TV 1500k. 13 pre-seaspn games! A fine tuning of cheesy proportions. Many players are on the edge of skilling up, so they're in a prime position to compete with the big boys. However, this is Pact, and their own Big Boys cause headaches. Marauders will feel some early retirements and a lot of that pre-season cheese will crumble.
Player to watch: Star elf, very similar to the chimp above as a disruptor. But who needs +St on your leap when your have horns? - Titus Milo
Prediction: 8th in pool

ImageTararuas Krox (OrcCleaver)
TV 1390k. Lizards are great when they get big, or when they get good skill rolls on skinks. Neither has happened yet for the Krox. There will be less physical pain for the team this season, and they will build well for season 12. But the results simply will not come.
Player to watch: Star Saurus, missing the first round fixture, but will be back in R2 to lead from the front - Roaring Stag
Prediction: Last in pool

The Deserted Isles Blood Bowl Leeg is now into its 11th season. However, it seems little is known about some of the teams and their players. The most famous of them are a universally loved exception, Reporter Dirk Stabbington spoke to Angie Sisifa, number eight and captain of the Otago Spirit to find out more.

Dirk: Your team is well known to all, why not go over the stories for us, Angie? How do you keep finding new players for the team?

Thanks Dirk, obviously the squad's bus took a wrong turn somewhere and we ended up in the 26th century as the last official representatives for Otago Rugby. The rules may have changed a bit, but it's still the same basic game underneath all the extra blood. Our newer team members just get off the old bus occasionally, no one's quite sure what's going on there, but I'm sure it's fine.

Dirk: Any particular goals for the current season?

Bloody vengeance upon our foes, Dirk. We've already dealt to the Timelords, still no word of them helping us go home, one of these disgusting monkeys next round is due a proper kicking too. Those Ogres later in the season, half of them need to die horrible and painful deaths, after what they've done to us. The little blokes with the tall hats, seriously inappropriate play from them, so death it is. Hoping to catch a few older squads in the finals for retribution too.

Dirk: You’ve been here since Season 2, are there anything other than rivalries in that time? Perhaps some friendships and camaraderie among your fellow competitors?

No. They're all monsters and freaks, and they keep killing the team out from under me. Sometimes that doesn't stop the girls from playing, but it changes their loyalties somewhat.

Dirk: A team is nothing without their fans. Tell us about yours, I hear you have a committed fan base.

A few fair weather friends, but the bulk of them have followed our exploits for a long time. A lot of them are even Human, at least on the surface. Few local women wanting to join the team, they're good for a bit of tackling and rucking practice, totally unskilled, and don't need paid at all.

Dirk: So how do manage the finances of the squad, with not being locals in the temporal sense?

There is a reason we still take the pitch, Dirk, despite the bias of the refereeing, we're well paid for the games and the team doesn't have any real hangers-on outside our coach, who used to be the bus driver and struggles with the new rules much the same as the rest of us, plus a few players whose injuries have kept them from the field, and of course the team physio who really lacks proper medical equipment. Sadly. So it's enough.

Dirk: Is there anything else you’d like to tell us?

My ankles hurt, Dirk, they hurt all the time. But the team needs me out there, so out there, playing the DIBBL, that's where I'll be. Count on it. Count on the Otago Spirit. Now, you don't know where those referees live, you do?

The Deserted Isles Blood Bowl Leeg is now into its 11th season. However, it seems little is known about the teams and their players. Reporter Dick Schlong travelled to the once sleepy market town of Manucow (south of Orcland) to speak with Assistant Coach, Karl Shoehimmer of the Talabheim Timelords to find out more.

Schlong: The origins of your club seem very mysterious. Where did the team come from? In fact, where did this city come from?

Shoehimmer: We are the Timelords. We were playing the sport a very long time a go. The rules have changed since we last played. We are still trying to adapt.

Schlong: But you all look so youthful? How can this be?

Shoehimmer: We are The Timelords! We are students of the High Archmage's College of Temporal Magic. Here, look. This is from Spike Magazine, 2488.

Shoehimmer hands Schlong a Spike! Magazine. The date indeed states 24/02/88, but the condition is like new.

The excerpt says:
Did you know that the shortest ever game on record was won by a team of students from the High Archmage's College of Temporal Magic, though they were later disqualified. After all, what was the point of their opponents turning up for the match, if all the wizards were going to do was hop back in time three days and win the game before the fixture was even decided?

Schlong: Astonishing! But how?

Shoehimmer: We made a decision, after this was published, that we needed a fresh start. Our strategy had been discovered, and the NAF wasn't too pleased. But worse, Puggy Power, the worlds most powerful betting agency at the time found out. They employ mages much more powerful than us, and they lost a fair bit of money on the matches we swindled. A team meeting was held. We decided to use our powers to move the franchise. Not across borders, but across time. To 2517. And to the Deserted Isles. Just in case. And here we are. We have learned our lessons. No more magic for us on the pitch.

Schlong: I am a bit lost for words.....

Shoehimmer see's Schlong looking around at the bustling streets of Talabheim. Schlong and Shoehimmer are sitting on a table outside a cafe. The Stadium in the background.

Shoehimmer: Oh... This. Yes well, what is a Blood Bowl Team without a home, without a fan base.

Schlong: You mean to tell me you transported the City as well as your club?

Shoehimmer: Oh no! Not all of it. Just, you know, a section of the City.

The Deserted Isles Blood Bowl Leeg is now into its 11th season. However, it seems little is known about the teams and their players. Reporter Sid Tibrickler visited Heyow Hospital speak to Mr Chemical Rumpsmash, one of two remaining original members of the Dyeliner Harlequins to find out more.

Sid: Tell us about your team. Where are they from? What are the backgrounds of your players? Why are you here?

“Well, one day we were hanging out, y’know, the usual, making up cool band names and feeling sad and stuff, and we thought, hey why are we cutting ourselves when we could get other people to do it and get paid? So we beat up some dark elves from around the corner that very night and ended up drafted in DIBBL.”

Sid: Any particular goals for the current season?

“Well, we’re not too sure what happened, but after the game with nekro Dance party, Jiggery Pokery got it pretty bad. The Doc pulled this piece of wood out of his head” //Gestures to the Lambhurly Shield//
We’re going to hold onto that piece of Wood for the whole season, no doubt about it. For Jiggy!”

Sid: You’ve been here since Season 7, have you built up any rivalries in that time? Any players that you really want to destroy?

“You know, it’s hard to keep track of all of the grudges when you get this many injuries – some of them in the head. Sooo many in the head.” There was a long pause, where the reporter was unsure whether was a moment of sadness or a genuine blank spell.
“So the last people who beat us were the Nekro Dance Party. That’s about as far back as we go. Oh and anyone with Diving tackle – I always forget who is prepared to smash themselves under our feet just to bring us down. Sooo many injuries in the head.”

Sid: A team is nothing without their fans. Tell us about yours, I hear you have a committed fan base.

“The guys who turn up each week to cheer us on are great! They help with all the bandages and that afterwards. And If someone packs it in after they lose a limb, or end up like poor old Jiggery, then the prize money from the game is usually enough to convince one of our fans to join the team!”

Sid: Who owns the Harlequins? Is is a wealthy financier, a cooperate structure, local government?

“Hey, we’re just a group of guys doing what we love. Turning up on Sunday, getting hurt, and getting paid.”

Sid: Is there anything else you’d like to tell us?

“Hey have you seen Skulls McRampage around? It’s been a while since I’ve seen her. She’s the one that scores touchdowns. You know, big hair, always jumping around? We need her for this season!”

Having seen what happened to two orderlies who reminded Rumpsmash of what happened to Skulls just before the interview, Sid quickly made his excuses and left.
The Harlequins may not have skills or players or money or fans or decency or respect, but they definitely know how to mangle innocent bystanders in their own confusion.

The Deserted Isles Blood Bowl Leeg is now into its 11th season. However, it seems little is known about the teams and their players. Reporter Bark Heetrugger visited the Ashenhall Owls to find out more.

Bark: Tell us about your team. Where are they from? What are the backgrounds of your players? Why are you here?

The Owls come from Ashenhall, a small glade in the Foothill Forests in Canterbury. The Owls entered the leeg back in its 3rd season and have been one of the few stalwart teams for the past few years. The players are local, with younger rookies stepping up into the shoes of their predecessors, some like Flint and Blaze going beyond that of original heroes like the late Ash Springdale. The captain of the team, Tyr Ashenhall has lead the team valiantly through thick and thin and continues to strive for that elusive chocolate fish, a prize the Owls have fallen short of by one game on numerous occasions. The team ages well, with 8 of the current roster having played more than 20 games and despite the new draconic treasury limitations, the team survives and carries on.

Bark: Any particular goals for the current season?

The Owls had planned to take a sabbatical this season, but the desperate plea and grovelling of the leeg director for such a great team to be present to help promote the leeg and entertain the massive crowds who flock to their games to watch the always entertaining and flowing matches they play. So the Owls are here, keen to battle through a very tough division to get that elusive fish.

Bark: You’ve been here since Season 3, have you built up any rivalries in that time?

The Owls longest rivalry has been with the Otago Spirit, the battle of the South which to date has seen 8 matches played, the Owls currently ahead 3 wins to 1 (with 3 draws), however, it has been a few seasons since the teams have met and again, Season 11 sees the two teams in different divisions. More recently, the Owls have established a rivalry with fellow elf team ‘Injury Time’, a rivalry which dazzles the crowd as highlighted by the down to the wire, brilliant 6-6 draw. Currently, Injury Time lead the rivalry 3 wins to 2 (with that magnificent 6-6 draw as well).

Bark: A team is nothing without their fans. Tell us about yours, I hear you have a committed fan base.

Due to the free flowing and exciting brand of football played by the Owls, fans continue to flood into the Deserted Isle stadiums, thanks to the awe inspiring heroic plays performed by Flint Burrows, Tyr Ashenhall and the legendary and infamous Blaze Argenthorn with whom the leeg placed a hoof bounty on his head despite his heroic plays.

Bark: Is there anything else you’d like to tell us?

Some say the Owls are perennial underachievers, but they don’t appreciate the bulging trophy cabinet they possess including two division titles and two Plates, one of the longest holders the Lambhurly Shield won on multiple occasions and as always, the Owls will turn up once again and the end of season awards with a wheelbarrow to help carry them home.

Round 1 and it's Shield Season again. The old trophy finds itself back in Orcland, kindly gifted by the departing Placeholders.

First up Whaleington is all out to break the long looooong drought. They haven't held it since April '16. Surely the broken Harlequins can't upset the Vampires again.

The Deserted Isles Blood Bowl Leeg is now into its 11th season. However, it seems little is known about the teams and their players. Reporter Amy Cutevein spoke to The Lich, vice captain of Transfusion Time to find out more.

Amy: Tell us about your team. Where are they from? What are the backgrounds of your players? Why are you here?

Transfusion Time have been around since before the colonisation of the Isles. You’ve seen pretty much everything once you’ve passed your 1000th birthday. So, we came here to settle down, to merely exist until the end of times.

However, Blood Bowl, brought to the Isles by missionaries, has tickled our fancy. Quite a tasty bunch those missionaries are, especially the virgins. Yes, Blood Bowl, we keep getting surprised by what we see on the pitch. Had to get involved. This sport is nuts! Plus, we don’t need to go out and hunt anymore, a continual fan base just line up to join the feeding, err, the squad.

Amy: Any particular goals for the current season?

The goal is to win it of course. Proving that pompous ass Commissioner wrong with his predictions. Sixth! We have won this competition before, we can certainly win it again. Also, it is long past time that the Shield returned to Whaleington. We don’t mind much which of the 3 teams in the pool brings it home… who am I kidding? Of course, we’ll be the local team holding it at season end.

Amy: You’ve been here since Season 1, have you built up any rivalries in that time? Any players that you really want to destroy?

We were beaten finalists last time we were in the Leeg. Revenge on those High Elves is paramount. But our coach seems to have a small vendetta against the lizards for some reason. There’s a bonus in the pay packet of anyone who takes out greyii.

Amy: Who owns transfusion Time? Is it a wealthy financier, a cooperate structure, local government?

As I said earlier, we have been around a very long time. We invest wisely, and the team is owned by a core of 4 to 5 players.

Amy: A team is nothing without their fans. Tell us about yours, I hear you have a committed fan base.

Our fans are very giving. The Vault is a very small stadium, and over time we continually strive to see there is a steady turnover of our delicious support. It would be unfair if new fans could never get in to see a game.

Amy: Anything else you’d like to add?

Excuse me, I think you have something in your eye. Here, let me have a look. Yes, that’s it, look into my eyes… this won’t hurt a bit….

Dye Liner Harlequins (Orcland) vs Transfusion Time (Whaleington)

The first time these two teams met, the Dark Elves were new kids on the DIBBL block, and the Vampires were the favourites. However, Eldril came along and caused mayhem. A vindictive Vampire team having accepted defeat, took it out on Eldril in T16, breaking his neck and hoping to never have to see him again.

This time the Dark Elves are the broken team on the DIBBL block. The Vamps were favorites even though they'd never lifted the prized Shield before. Would Eldril spoil their party?

No, but cage leaping stabby Horkon nearly did. Nearly.

2-0 victroy to Transfusion Time. And the Shield returns to where it belongs, for the first time in nearly 2 years. Can they hold it for more than 2 weeks? (probably, the first challenge isn't until R4)

The Deserted Isles Blood Bowl Leeg is now into its 11th season. However, it seems little is known about the teams and their players. Reporter Hal Polmes spoke to team captain Minsc of Injury Time to find out more.

Hal: Tell us about your team. Where are they from? What are the backgrounds of your players? Why are you here?

Minsc: It all started when Boo and my adventuring days were over. We'd foiled every evil plot and looted every penny we could. Baldur's Gate was so quiet, we'd spend our days outside the Friendly Arm Inn throwing a ball around and all our nights drinking and watching the big leagues on Cabalvision. Eventually we formed a 7's league and had some success on the pub circuit, and then coach Foad suggested we try our luck in the Deserted Isle.

Hal: Any particular goals for the current season?

Minsc: After you've won, winning again becomes the primary goal - but it's mostly about comradarie. After that it's about enjoying the games. Playing in DIBBL makes it easy as everyone is awesome.

Hal: You’ve been here since Season 6, have you built up any rivalries in that time? Any players that you really want to destroy?

Minsc: It's all in good spirit, so there's no-one I really want to to destroy, but we've played the Owls every season which is always a great game. We average over 7 TD's per game which is great for the crowd.

Hal: A team is nothing without their fans. Tell us about yours, I hear you have a committed fan base.

Minsc: Traveling all the way to the Deserted Isles, we knew we'd come up against tough home town crowds, but the fans we've picked up make it worth while.

Hal: Who owns Injury Time? Is is a wealthy financier, a cooperate structure, local government?

Minsc: A miniature giant space hamster of course. Coach Foad has mentioned there also maybe some backers from the southern wastes... I've heard they're villains but they seem nice enough.
