Hi,
me and about a dozen people now play BB 3-4 times a month. We already played four tournaments together, but now me and the two other guys that manage all the thing want to do a STEP: starting using LRB 1.9, so the "going to be" official rules.

I would appreciate some suggestions about starting such a league, in particular:

- what could be the best politic when a rule change affect an existing team?
- what could be the best method to arrange the tournament (about 24 teams, 4 guys have 3 teams each, 4 guys have only one) ?
- what is the best way to decide prizes?

Thanks!!

Hi,
The way I'd do it is just have each player have one team.
Split the players into two leagues. League A and League 1 (Therefore no-one feels like they are in a lower league! Very Happy )

THE LEAGUE

Play each person in your division once.
10pts for win
5pts for draw
0pts for Loss

+2pts for scoring 2 or more TDs
+2pts for causing 2 or more Casualties

Then have (these do count towards league rankings:
Position 1 (League A) Vs Position 1 (League 1)
Position 2 (League A) Vs Position 2 (League 1)
Position 3 (League A) Vs Position 3 (League 1)
Position 4 (League A) Vs Position 4 (League 1)

Play one final match against each player in your league.

Followed by the new (These also count towards league positons):
Position 1 (League A) Vs Position 1 (League 1)
Position 2 (League A) Vs Position 2 (League 1)
Position 3 (League A) Vs Position 3 (League 1)
Position 4 (League A) Vs Position 4 (League 1)

THE PLAYOFFS

Game A: 1st place League 1 Vs 2nd place League A
Game B: 2nd place League 1 Vs 1st place League A

FINAL

Winner Game A vs Winner Game B to determine winner.

This gives you between 8 and 10 games per player.

If there is a rule change during a Tournament then finish the current tournament BEFORE using the rule updates. Otherwise some rules may make some lists illegal e.g Changing limits on players.

I'd implement the new rules to all existing players right off the bat. You take the decision, then you see what unfolds, or else confusion and unjustified bitterness might come along. If a rule change affects an actual team, so be it, or else restart the team anew. As for the actual league play, here's my view:

FIRST ROUND: 7 games RoudRobin tourney, to get reasonable TR for all.
SECOND ROUND: division play, 3 games, and divisions would be made according to score rankings after round 1
Div. 1 = 1,3,5,7 Div.2 = 2,4,6,8
THIRD ROUND: Match play, 2 games, Home and Away, with standard pairings:
1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6, 4 vs. 5. To represent the Home advantage, Home team gets +1 FF.

So this way everyone gets to play at least 10 games. You can figure out something for consolation round, up to you Smile.
SEMI-FINALS: top 4 league scoring teams make it here, with standard pairings:
1 vs. 4, 2 vs. 3
FINAL MATCH: Golden game, if overtime it's Golden goal.

Scoring:
Win : 10 pts
Draw: 5 pts
Loss: 0 pts
Win or Draw with 9 starters or less: + 3 pts (support good coaching!)
Tds : 1 pt/TD
Cas : 1 pt/cas, +2 pts if 3 cas or more
This way, all races can get good league scores, not only elves.

Any coach can retire and start a new team in first 5 rounds, then you live and die with what you have.
One team per race, LRB official teams only.

Last but not least: NO CONCEDING ALLOWED, for it gives to much edge to the winner, especially in the first four rounds.

Good luck in your league management.

Well, thanks for the suggestions guys.

I'm still not decided about moving to vault 1.9 from LRB 4.0;

For example:
LEADER is now in "pass" cathegory, what about an orc blitzer that has that skill?
+MA could also be +AV... what about those already taken?
Some abilities are weaker/stronger: what about decisions taken when those abilities were different?

A proposal is: take every existing team, let every coach reassign ONLY skill changed a lot (we'll prepare a list), and that's all.

What do you think about it?

Thanks again!

I would think you should start all the teams from scratch. The new vault rules have changed a lot of things so I think moving teams made with the current rules into a league using the new one is a bad idea. Keep you old team lists so you can play with the old rules if you want a change, but I'd recommend start with fresh teams if you want to try the vault rules. Of course the vault rules will proabably still change a few times before they are made official, but they will be much smaller changes so your league should be able to cope.

Good luck!

Without knowing the teams, the fairer seems to be changing the rules but not the teams, some can be better others worse, but nobody planed it, so it's random. Problem are the Wood Elf Trees, Snotlings for Ogres, and all the Nurgle roster changes, that's difficult.
May be you can use the cost rules to rebuild the teams.
..and Leader was a trait, so you needed a double, like in 1.9, for the Blitzer to get it.
