The Picks: FUMBBL Cup V

We're coming in at the start of Round 2,
just as last year's winners Nandorins beat Panda's Skaven to make Round 3.
Also, Naama and JackDaniels are slated to play later today in a much anticipated slaughterfest.
In the interests of scheduling, Plorg will cover this match first then post again about the rest.

Rhazgul's Judgement is a regular Tourney contender and this year shows a pointier Chaos than usual.
Two Block/Claw/RSC Chaos Warriors are bound to be leading the Chaos blocking game,
but in case they get tied down then one of the FOUR Block/Claw Beastmen can make the Blitz instead.
They have two Dirty Players, a surprisingly low number for a casualty based team in Plorg's opinion.

Ball handling skills are about average with three +AGs sprinkled around
but the lack of other skills means that we shouldn't expect a passing game from the Chaos,
just a slow punishing grind with the intent to fill the injury boxes.

*Update* While typing this, the Chaos just spent their treasury on both Morg and Ripper for this match,
AND the Orcs just bought Ripper to cancel him out. This leaves both teams at 15 players with Morg on the Chaos side.

Orcs of the White Hand are one the many Orc teams in the final stages of FC5.
This particular variety has plenty of Guard, Mighty Blow, and Stand Firm.
Of particular interest is the developed +AG Thrower who should be the standout ball carrier of the match.
The BlOBs are sufficiently developed to be annoying, while the Blitzers are stocked with stats or doubles.
Also add in the remote possibility of a Turn 8 TTM with the rookie Goblin.

The main weakness of this team is the rookie Troll, without the usual Guard or lucky Block skills.
Since this Troll is expected to be the primary damage sink of the team,
Plorg expects he will either fall quickly or be ignored and then the Chaos will move on to injure juicier targets.

Regardless of the damage, these Orcs are undefeated vs Chaos while the Chaos have a fair-poor record against Orcs.
If the casualty numbers swing drastically in Chaos' favor early in the match, then Chaos might win.
The expected result however is that the Orcs will win this game but take a lot of damage.

Plorg's Pick: Orcs of the White Hand by 1 in OT, taking 2+ MNG/RIP

You were almost right, except for the getting damaged part and cointoss.

With 5/14 niggled players, Grace is a Virus away from getting eliminated from this tournament.
That isn't likely to happen this round against the overpowered Lizards since the TR/TS is well matched.
The Lizards have enough cash to hire a Star, while the best the elves can do is a Wizard or Freeboot.
This should be a very mobile and high scoring game.

Plorg is going to call this one for the Wood Elves for two simple reasons.
Twin Wardancers Blitz-Leaping into the cage and getting 2 dice with Strip Ball and Tackle on Skinks.
The Lizards don't have any Sure Hands to counter that,
so the Skinks simply aren't going to be able to keep the ball.

Plorg's Pick: For the Grace of Wood D.M.U by 2, no OT

Khemri vs Khemri!
Both teams have the cash to hire Ramtut, but Dominik is down a Mummy from some blocking that backfired in Round 1.
(Only) Three Dirty Players each, but Hindsberg's are more efficient.
Dominik's DPs have other useful skills so that team loses more on-field TS after all the DPs are gone,
giving Hindsberg a slight fouling advantage. Hindsberg also has the better Thro-Ras.
Plorg questions the usefulness of keeping the niggled AG1 55spp Thro-Ra on Dominik's team.
Dominik has eight Guards to Hindsberg's four, so the overall ST advantage goes to Dominik.

Casualty-based teams often try to force tournament games to go into OT intentionally.
Unfortunately, we expect this to be one of the Longest. Slowest. Games. Ever.

Plorg's Pick: Greatest Ever by 1 in OT

PeteW's Ultimate Superheroes 273/288 v. Synn's Dead Bunnies United 252/245

To spare you all from the gratuitous web media overload that is Synn's team page,
I'll summarize his team here.
Very Happy
Two decent Mummies leading the blocks backed up by a squad of Ghouls with Guard.
This makes for a more mobile application of Guard than is usual,
but also a very fragile bunch if caught by some Mighty Blow Tacklers.
Add in three Dirty Players from the meat shields for expected fouling action.
The Undead have 6 Tacklers, most of which are concentrated among the Ghouls,
to take down 10 Elves with Dodge. Synn will have to protect the Ghoul Squad well.

Believe it or not, it looks like the Ghouls are not the main ball carriers of this bunch.
These Undead have two of the prettiest AG5 Wights around,
although their injuries make them less reliable.
The Count has been hired to help out (of course) bringing a full squad of 16.

As for Pete's elite wood elves, they have taken the uncommon move of hiring two Stars.
An extra ST7 Treeman never hurts on the LoS, especially when Root-Free and with rerolls.
Add in Jordell Freshbreeze for a full squad of 16 which includes two Treemen and three Wardancers.
If you think about that long enough it gets kind of intimidating.
PeteW's team is young and hasn't had the time to build FF that Synn has had,
so the Undead have a 9FF advantage there. Both teams have two niggled players,
so those rolls at the start of the game could give either team a two player advantage.

Overall, Plorg calls this game in favor of the Wood Elves.

Plorg's Pick: Ultimate Superheroes by 2, no OT

So much for that Pick Plorg... Mr. Green
What would have been your pick between my Lizz and JDs Orcs?
By 1 in OT?

Thanks for the vote of confidence Plorg! Any idea how I get the ball off the Count though? Wink

Fine, then here's a pick for the smart asses:

Plorg's Pick: My First and My Last will LOSE THE TOURNAMENT

Let's see if that one holds up.

You could conserve your Lizzies quite good, and you were lucky with the +ST stat increase on a Sauri. 3x ST5... tough case.

Sure, but at the time you posted, the only posts in the thread were my Picks and you and torsoboy saying the picks were wrong.
If that's the only kind of feedback I get for this, then what's the point of me doing it?
You want to step up and give some predictions or just sit back and heckle?
So far, my Picks have been better than the nonexistent Picks from you or torsoboy.

Of course not all the Picks will be correct.
If they were, then we could just say who the Tournament winner is now and bypass all that pesky BloodBowl-game-playing, eh?

pete... you should have got a wizard instead of that silly waterboy Jordell.... a woodie team with one strip ball... on a double niggler st 2 player.. tsk. : D Anyway... still a hard game to predict... depends on possible onetuner equalizations.. and that Count fellow.. My pick: 2-1 Bunnies or 3-2 after OT

plorg, thank you very much for doing this.

Despite the hecklers/knockers, there are many more readers who find your post very interesting reading that add great flavour and fluff to the ranked Tournament scene. I for one have been looking forward to your post for many days (as you probably know since I keep nagging at you to write it!).

Keep up the excellent work Smile
