ERPL - Blog #2
So, time for a second blog about this upcoming league. If you have no idea what this is about, read ERPL - Blog #1 first!

I have been working on the rosters. It'll probably be quite a while since they need to be ready, but since I have no idea how long it will actually take before I can launch the league, it's better if I'm finished sooner rather than later. Besides, I've got some time on my hands.
I won't be presenting any actual rosters today, but I will present you the full lists of playable rosters!

But first, some random smaller 'announcements'.

1) IRC

The IRC channel #ERPL has already been 'opened'. If the league interests you, you can always drop by to talk to me about it if I'm around, or perhaps there's even someone else. I doubt it, but you never know. In the future, it'll be the official league channel. Nuffle is already in the channel.

2) Inter-match events

I did some thinking here, and I think I will have these not every month or so, but rather in between seasons or season-phases (probably the latter). This makes more sense since there might be a month with hardly any play (December or one of the summer months, for example).
I will be making a list of possible events, one third negative, one third more or less neutral and a final third positive. I won't be making the list public, as I might add onto it and remove when I see what does and what does not work, but I'll also keep it secret for the sake of fun and surprises.
Of course, the Chaos - Tzeentch team will get twice as much events with a smaller chance of negative events!

3) Fluff

This will be a league that will require a certain amount of fluff and immersion. I'm not saying it is necessary to have pictures with all your players or something like that, but it is encouraged. What is required though, is that the team name and player name fits the spirit of the league. Ergo, 'Reikland Reavers' or 'Black Hand Tribe' is okay, but 'Star Wars Snotlings' or 'Twilight Vampires' is not.

=====

Alright, with that said, time to announce what should be the complete list of rosters. Note that it is possible that I will make changes. I might switch Norse to the Old World league, or switch Kislev to the Northern Wastelands league, for example, or perhaps I have forgotten to add a roster. Still, this should be more or less correct.

Some small notes.
Only the non-bloodline Vampire team has to deal with Bloodlust. The other Vampire teams have much more expensive vampires, plus other problems, such as a lower maximum number.
All new teams are supposed to 'fit' in somewhere in the Tiers. Snotlings and Ogre being at the bottom and the old favourites like Dark Elf, Dwarf and Chaos are probably still on top, perhaps joined by one or two of the new rosters. Every new roster should have a place within the tiers. It is possible the design has not been perfect: I don't have the time to playtest and tinker forever. Therefore, it should be noted that it is possible that rosters can change at any time during the league. Most changes should be reasonably small, however.

Possible number of teams to choose from:
Old World: 19
The Orient: 16
The Northern Wastelands: 16
The Southern World: 17

That includes doubles, of course, as Undead can be found everywhere, for example.

You're welcome to let me know what you're eager to see!

Amazon
Region: The Southern World – Lustria
Roster still unclear

Roster might be the same as the old one, or a 'redesign'. Still unclear.

Araby - Holy
Region: The Southern World - Araby
New roster

From the depths of the Araby Peninsula the nomadic people of the desert come to the Blood Bowl pitch. There are two types of Arabic teams. The first of these, Holy, is one of divine reverence, that they are sent forth to battle infidels of their faith, and the Blood Bowl pitch is a natural proving ground. The team employs fanatical Dervishes, powerful warriors called Sultan Guards and a mysterious Sandwraith.

Araby - Unholy
Region: The Southern World - Araby
New roster

From the depths of the Araby Peninsula the nomadic people of the desert come to the Blood Bowl pitch. There are two types of Arabic teams. The second, Unholy, is one of much darker portents. These teams seek out the services of forbidden necromantic allies and are thoroughly shunned in all social circles, but outright loved by the fans when they take to the pitch. The team employs fanatical Dervishes next to Skeletons and Mummies.

Border Princess
Region: The Old World – The Border Princes
New roster

The lands of the Border Princes guard the lands of civilization against the Vampire Counts, the cursed city of Moussillon, the city and region of Skavenblight and the tombs of the Grey Mountains. In this last line of defence, it is perhaps not odd that some of its greater heroes are also scarred by its environment. A team of Border Princes players consists of honorable outcasts. What they lack in trained skills, they complement with mutations.

Bretonnian
Region: The Old World – Bretonnia
New roster

A team comprised of lowly peasants and haughty knights, as well as their servile squires. The Bretonnian team brings honour and glory to the pitch, as well as cold-hearted determination. They quest for one thing only: being the best team on the Blood Bowl pitch.

Cathay
Region: The Orient – Cathay
New roster.

The Cathayan Blood Bowl team features odd and agile Monkey Warriors, proud and reliable Swordsaints and tops it off with the zen-powered Celestial Dragon Monks. The Cathay team is a spiritual one as well as a cohesive one.

Chaos - Khorne
Region: The Northern Wastelands – The Chaos Wastelands
New roster.

Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Throne of Skulls! Who is surprised that Blood Bowl is the natural game for Khorne's followers? Bloodletters and a Daemon Prince are joined by a gathering of loyal cultists to play a true bloody game.

Chaos - Nurgle
Region: The Northern Wastelands – The Chaos Wastelands
Old roster: Nurgles Rotters.

No changes.

Chaos - Slaanesh
Region: The Northern Wastelands – The Chaos Wastelands
New roster.

Perhaps surprising to some, but the team that plays for Slaanesh is much less about brutality than the other Chaos teams. Its Daemonettes are gracious, agile and alluring.

Chaos - Tzeentch
Region: The Northern Wastelands – The Chaos Wastelands
New roster.

Tzeentch is lord and master of change and fate, and the team knows it. With its Pink Horrors, a controlled madness is ready to take over the pitch. And should one get killed, the team will have two Blue Horrors to put on the pitch next match...

Chaos Beastman
Region: The Northern Wastelands – The Chaos Wastelands, The Orient – The Hinterlands of Khuresh
New roster.

Features two Minotaurs, two Bestigors and a couple of Ungor to take care of the ball. The Chaos Horde is ready to charge!

Chaos Dwarf
Region: The Northern Wastelands – Dark Lands
Normal roster

No changes.

Chaos Pact
Region: The Northern Wastelands – The Chaos Wastelands
Normal roster

No changes.

Dark Elf
Region: The Northern Wastelands – Naggaroth
Normal roster

No changes.

Dogs Of War
Region: The Old World – Estalia & Tilea
New roster

Estalia and Tilea are best known for their mercenary armies, and that's hardly different on the pitch. While most of the team is still human, the team also features an ever-changing line-up of positionals from all over the world – players that care only about money and glory that the Dogs of War teams can offer them.

Dwarf
Region: The Old World – mountainous areas
Normal roster

No changes.

Fimir
Region: The Northern Wastelands – Albion
New roster

"Through the choking Mists they came, the One-eyed and thrice accursed Demon-spawn known to Man as the Fimir. They came to raid our Homes and took our Daughters. And none could stand against their Might."
Many feel that Albion is more a part of the Old World than of the Northern Wastelands, but looking at these horrors of the swamps, perhaps not. Their style of playing is perhaps closest to the Chaos – Nurgle team: disruptive (Prehensile Tail on all players), low agility, cheap linemen and some powerful positionals.

Forest Goblin
Region: The Orient – forests and jungles, The Southern World – forests and jungles
New roster

These goblins are the savage cousins of normal goblins. Instead of chainsaws, bombs and pogo sticks, they employ giant spiders and wolves. Of course, it is illegal in the eyes of the referee, which makes for difficult decisions for the coach, as when to put which player on the pitch...

Goblin
Region: The Orient – Savage Lands, The Southern World – Savage Lands
Roster modification: Goblin

Fanatics are strictly Night Goblin-only. In return, the Goblin team can field a second Chainsaw. In addition, the Goblin team can field three Trolls instead of two.

Halflings
Region: The Old World – The Moot
Roster modification: Halfling

Compared to the normal FFB roster, this team can feature three Treemen instead of two.

High Elf
Region: The Old World – Ulthuan
Normal roster

No changes.

Hindi
Region: The Orient – Kingdoms of Ind
New roster.

Fear the Hindi, for their teams feature fearless Yogi, a brutal Elephantaur, but worst of all, the slithering Naga.

Hobgoblin
Region: The Orient – Eastern Steppes
New roster.

As the weak slaves of the Chaos Dwarfs, Hobgoblins have always been looked down upon. And sure, the regular hobgoblin of the Eastern Steppes is little more than that. But as Hobgobla-khan has shown eastern and western civilization, there are hobgoblins that should truly be feared. Some hobgoblins are just more vicious or sneaky than others...

The Human Empire
Region: The Old World – The Empire
Roster modification: Human

Compared to the normal FFB roster, the Human Empire roster has slightly improved catchers and fields a Steamtank instead of an Ogre.

Khemri
Region: The Southern World - Khemri
Normal roster.

No changes.

Kislev
Region: The Old World – Kislev
New roster

The nation of Kislev is a proud one that stands tall against the oncoming tide of Chaos. Its Kossacks, Janistars and Tartars know little fear, but the real power in this team comes with its immense Werebears.

Lizardmen
Region: The Southern World – Lustria and the Southlands
Normal roster

No changes.

Necromantic
Region: All
Normal roster.

No changes, except for an improved Raise The Dead ability.

Night Goblin
Region: The Old World – mountainous areas
New roster

These goblins are absolutely mad. Fanatics and squigs on the loose!

Nipponese
Region: The Orient – Nippon
New roster.

Nippon is a nation of honour and tradition. It has birthed Samurai, Ninjas and Sumo warriors, all ready to display their pride and skill on the Blood Bowl pitch.

Norse
Region: The Northern Wastelands - Norsca
Normal roster.

No changes.

Ogre
Region: The Orient – Ogre Kingdoms
Roster modification: Ogre

Gnoblar replace Snotlings. Gnoblar are more powerful than Snotlings, but still slower and more vulnerable than Goblins.

Orc
Region: The Orient – Savage Lands, The Southern World – Savage Lands
Roster modification: Orc

The roster loses its Goblins and its re-rolls are 10K pricier.

Pro Elf
Region: The Old World – Ulthuan
Normal roster

No changes.

Savage Orc
Region: The Orient – Savage Lands, The Southern World – Savage Lands
New roster

The savage cousins of the Orcs are surprisingly unlike their cousins. Their skin isn't as tough and they also don't wear any armour. Instead, this brutal team employs a brutal, all-out offence. With all thoughts of defence out of the window, they instead charge straight into the enemy...

Skaven – Eshin
Region: The Orient – The Hinterlands of Kuresh
Roster modification: Skaven

The Skaven of clan Eshin have lived in the lands of ninjas and samurai for so long, that they have become quite different compared to the other Skaven clans. They are the only clan to field Gutter Runners and they rely on them completely.

Skaven – Mors
Region: The Old World – Skavenblight
Roster modification: Skaven

The warrens of Clan Mors are home to the Stormvermin. It should come as no surprise that clan Mors combines Skaven speed with its Stormvermin power.

Skaven – Moulder
Region: The Northern Wastelands – Hellpit
Roster modification: Skaven

Clan Moulder makes its home close to Troll Country. The clan is rich with warpstone, and the result is horrific. Moulder teams can take mutations on normal rolls and field the monstrous Rat Ogres.

Skaven – Pestilens
Region: The Southern World – Southlands
Roster modification: Skaven

Clan Pestilens might not control Skavenblight, but the entire underworld of the southern worlds is filled with these Skaven. On the pitch, they employ their gifts of disease: Plague Monks and Plague Censer Bearers are the tools that clan Pestilens works with, and not without its results. Father Nurgle must be proud...

Skaven – Skryre
Region: The Old World – Skavenblight
Roster modification: Skaven

Clan Skryre is currently the most dominant clan of all the Skaven clans. The team mixes speed with brutal force and warpstone power coming from technical advances. Its Poison Wind Globadiers are one thing, but its Mechavermin something other entirely. And then there's the Doomwheel to top it all off...

Slann
Region: The Southern World – Lustria and the Southlands
Normal roster

No changes.

Snotling
Region: The Northern Wastelands – Troll Country
New roster/roster modification: Ogre.

Snotlings are, admittedly, quite puny. They wouldn't stand a chance on the Blood Bowl pitch, if it weren't for their Troll allies and their brutal Pump Wagon.

Undead
Region: All
Normal roster.

No changes, except for an improved Raise The Dead ability.

Underworld Creepers
Region: The Old World – The Underworld
Normal roster.

No changes.

Vampire
Region: All
Normal roster.

No changes. Note that this is the only Vampire rosters that has to deal with Bloodlust; the other rosters are just limited in other ways.

Vampire – Blood Dragon
Region: The Old World – Bretonnia / Sylvania
Roster modification: Vampire

Blood Dragon vampires are strong, powerful, proud and agressive.

Vampire – Lahmian
Region: The Orient – The Silver Pinnacle
Roster modification: Vampire

Lahmian vampires are beautiful, yet sinister and deadly. All these females are true mistresses of night and mind control.

Vampire – Necrarch
Region: Everywhere except the Old World
Roster modification: Vampire

Necrarch vampires might have fled the wrath of the Old World, who still remembers them as the direct servants of Nagash, but these vampires have now gathered knowledge all over the world and are more dangerous than ever...

Vampire – Sartosa
Region: The Southern World – Vampire Coast
Roster modification: Vampire

The Sartosan bloodline is one that that controls the vampire coast, which has become a pirate stronghold. Most pirates there are of human background, but the power is in the hands of the vampiric aristocracy. Note that the bloodline is called Sartosa because the bloodline originates from a Tilean exploring party that originated from the city Sartosa, but that unbeknownst to them carried a vampire on board.

Vampire – Strigoi
Region: The Southern World – Badlands
Roster modification: Vampire

Strigoi vampires are animalistic, monstrous vampires that rely heavily on Ghouls for support.

Vampire – Von Carstein
Region: The Old World – Sylvania
Roster modification: Vampire

Von Carstein vampires are true masters of the undead.

Wood Elf
Region: The Old World – Athel Loren
Normal roster

No changes.

Where are the dryads? Also where do we find out more about the new rosters?
Posted by Calthor on 2010-12-02 17:56:21
I haven't got a Dryad team yet, but I guess that is one I missed. I'll consider adding it.

The new rosters will be unveiled in future blogs, a few at a time! Not just the statistics either, but also a full background and possibly some strategy as well.

Some really cool ideas here. I look forward to more news on this.
