Stupid Box clawpombers
So today my Norse ball carriet Lalli http://fumbbl.com/p/player?op=view&player_id=9682734 got killed by a stupid clawpomb team in box. It would have been totally ok if my opponent would have killed him by blocking fair and square, but no! He/she had to t16 foul my player and OOPS! Killed. And FYI I had only 2 or 3 players on the field so it was totally unnecessary. And I was losing the game too.

Poll: Do you intentionally try to ruin the gaming experience for your opponents?

Underworld get to do what they want. They are nasty.
Posted by Azure on 2013-10-30 21:26:45
I think T16 fouls are in very poor taste - some people like them; but in general most coaches realize that doing T16 fouls to random opponents is stupid thing. A shame this happened to you - there are certainly a few jerks in the box.
Posted by MisterFurious on 2013-10-30 21:31:28
Sorry, man, but that's the game. It's not called 'Fun Bowl'.
Posted by licker on 2013-10-30 21:40:46
It's a pretty lame T16 foul, but it's not uncommon to see them.

As to your poll...

I don't do it intentionally, but I'm sure I ruin the experience for my opponents none the less.
Posted by Waterboy on 2013-10-30 21:43:39
Lame.. But still only a lineman with one double, they come and go all the time in the box, clawpomb or he only has av7.
You will soon get a new one.
back on the horse mate.
Cheers

Games rarely have 'fun' in the title. But they are generally designed to be so. T16 fouls (except in *extremely* rare circumstances) detract that away from your opponent . . . Which is incredibly selfish & can leave the reciever feeling incredibly sour over what could otherwise have been an enjoyable matchup
Posted by Verminardo on 2013-10-30 21:58:29
T16 fouls are always permitted:
- on nasty killers (tm)
- on Wardancers
- on natural One-Turners
- on AG5+
- on the Monkey

Did I forget anything?

Apart from that, T16 foul with nothing to gain by it is just spiteful.
Posted by Verminardo on 2013-10-30 22:01:05
Oh, and on Skinks on a Dwarf team of course.
Posted by JimmyFantastic on 2013-10-30 22:02:16
I rated this a 6 because T16 fouls are AWESOMEEEEEE !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by The_Provocateur on 2013-10-30 22:17:27
I T16 Foul people I know, people I hate and people I like. But usually only on the people I like's fodder.
Posted by PainState on 2013-10-30 22:17:50
There is this blurry line on T16 fouls...The problem though is were exactly that line is.

Example for me...If I up on the score and my opponeet has been beat down by my team I would not T16 foul.

But on the flip side I have been trashed on the pitch, bad luck and losing. You get the T16 foul out of spite and I will tell you in chat it is coming and you deserve the parting shot.

The problem then is were is the line between the two?
Posted by Overhamsteren on 2013-10-30 22:23:21
Well he had used his apo and you were still hitting back so taking out your players still held some kind of tactical meaning. And it was a turn 15 foul.

As said at least he wasn't that special, and you got a +AG one to replace him. Or just get a runner.

But I will agree that the underworld team is really lame. :O
Posted by Chainsaw on 2013-10-30 22:27:01
Wait, what, some people don't T16 foul?

Really?

You just pixel hugged a player with 3 skills. That's funny.
Posted by lizvis on 2013-10-30 22:38:07
not T16 fouling is considered offensive in some cultures. it's considered to be an insult because it means that your team is so weak that it needs mercy.
Posted by Araznaroth on 2013-10-30 22:48:39
Theres a badge for doing that! :)
Posted by koadah on 2013-10-30 22:57:04
@Verminardo: You forgot

They have done more fouls than you.
They have done more perm damage than you.
The game is a Black Box game.
You need to clear the field.
The opponent started the game by saying "please don't hurt them"
It just feels right.
Posted by Jeffro on 2013-10-30 23:21:27
T16 fouls are for folks you play often enough that both of you have been on the end of a dicing, losing numerous players throughout your history of battles. It's the grudge match move. The "I'll-see-YOU-again-you-S.O.B!!"... with a wink and a nod. It acknowledges the temporary existence of the players, and adds to the backstory of teams. To take one in glorification is an honor. To deal one to someone shows respect for the coach (if not the pixels)... ;)

If nobody did 'unnecessary' fouls, we wouldn't get all these amusing blogs/threads complaining about it, and the world would be a poorer place...
Posted by pythrr on 2013-10-31 00:51:52
there is no such thing as an unnecessary foul.
Posted by Cloggy on 2013-10-31 01:04:01
If the guy had been fouling all game long I could understand it. But making your ONLY foul of the game in T16 is the act of a douchebag.
Posted by Frankenstein on 2013-10-31 01:27:20
It's all fine as long as he properly apologized (i. e. said "Sorry!" with quotation marks followed up by a sad-smiley :( on top of that).
Posted by PurpleChest on 2013-10-31 01:39:38
this is far from straight forward: Personally I rarely ever foul, and i NEVER t16 foul, except for when i do.

And i hate if people do it randomly, except that i dont really care and wont judge you for it, because it's only a game.

There are so many times it IS the right thing to do, and so many times it isnt.

Ironically, one of my personal rules is id never do it to a player like that (unless I did) usually, an evil top star? yes. A rookie? maybe. a solid journeyman? probably not.

It is far from straightforward. And yeah, it happens a lot.
Posted by PainState on 2013-10-31 04:07:52
can we atleast all agree on one thing on the T16 foul.

If your opponeet has a Jman still on the LOS he MUST take a turn 16 foul?
Posted by Jeffro on 2013-10-31 06:19:02
Not if there's a better target... ;D

Useless fouls are stupid...
Nothing more to say.
Posted by Wizfall on 2013-10-31 09:47:30
It's a fluff thing like Jeffro said.
I rarely foul but don't mind T16 fouls. It shows respect.
It's not lame at all, if you don't get it you don't enjoy BB the same way and that's it.
Posted by fabik on 2013-10-31 09:54:30
Personally I accept T16 fouls, even if it's useles and even if it damages my team with a kill. I will play with that coach without any moaning.
No question about that, simply I think that Bashing a defeated opponent without having any advantage is stupid, useless and disrespectful.
Posted by fabienL on 2013-10-31 09:56:22
"not T16 fouling is considered offensive in some cultures. it's considered to be an insult because it means that your team is so weak that it needs mercy"

--> this is so true... T16 fouling is just showing proper respect to your opponent
Posted by Chainsaw on 2013-10-31 10:58:37
Waaaa YOU FOULED MY PIXEL.

Oh, you blitzed me and killed my pixel. Good on ya.

It's not cricket. The purpose of the game is to kill stuff. It's amazing the amount of emotional difference applied to that 2spp that a block/blitz casualty gets over the foul. It's the word 'foul' being loaded, rookie coaches associate it with being unfair, cheating, dastardly. Really, in BB, foul is synonymous with funny. So next time somebody T16 boots ya, call it a 'funny'... "Oh, he T16 funnied me. Hilarious!"
Posted by PaddyMick on 2013-10-31 11:24:20
I don't do it (except on induced stars) and I get slightly miffed when it's done to me; but I'd never blacklist someone for it.
Posted by lizvis on 2013-10-31 12:24:27
i hate to say it, but i mostly agree with chainsaw........

/me feels the ground to make sure it's not extremely cold.........

although i've been saying more or less the same thing for years now.

i imagine that somewhere in play testing, they figured out that leaving your players prone on the ground to block the offense was too much of an advantage for the defense; and making it mandatory to pick up prone players probably complicated the game too much. so fouling had to be introduced in order to clear a path when prone players blocked the offense. somewhere along the line it turned into a means to remove another player. it's entirely too complicated to make rules as to when you can and can't foul that would cover all situations for an abstract game like blood bowl. the best the rules can do is limit it to once per turn. fouling is part of the strategy, get over the word 'foul', it's just a name for an action within the game. you either accept all fouls and play blood bowl or you don't accept fouls and don't play blood bowl, or play in a sissy pixel hugging league that doesn't allow or limits fouls. really, it is that simple. these types of blogs are really stupid, really unoriginal and make you look like a delicate little doily when you write one.

If your going to pretend up a "Poll". do it in the forums where people can actually vote.

T16 Foul? OF COURSE! mind you ill generally do it to a loner for fun but if the guy is giving me his start player well... thats just asking for it. the only players I won't generally T16 Foul are rookie linemen since they have no skills and are just a cost to replace.

So yes, I don't play PillowBowl. If you T16 foul and kill my guy well, thats funny! Fluff it up and pretend the guy was being obscene and got whats coming to him.
Posted by Badoek on 2013-10-31 14:32:18
I T16 fouled last week for the HUBBA Dirtiest Player award. It had to be done.
Posted by Relezite on 2013-10-31 14:50:34
It's one of those things where the people that think the one way about it and the people that think the other way about it think that the people that think the other way about it or first way about it respectively are thinking about it wrong and think that the way they think about it is the only way to think about it, I think.
Posted by licker on 2013-10-31 15:44:55
The real problem isn't T16 fouls.

It's that playing R and B games is basically completely meaningless, so to try and make them feel more meaningful people take them far too seriously.

T16 foul in a league? In a tourny? There's a reason.

T16 foul in a random R or B game? There's as much reason as there is to actually play the game in the 1st place.
Posted by Beerox on 2013-10-31 17:29:00
Expect no better, it's the box.
Posted by cameronhawkins on 2013-10-31 18:34:41
Usually I am opposed to turn 16 fouling, except in the cases described by Verminardo.

However, I think it's important to point out here that Lalli was unabashedly a murderer.
I mean–– seriously–– his name was "Lalli the murderer of Bishop Hendrik". Where's the blog post for poor Bishop Henrik? Where's the sympathy for his family? I'm fairly confident Bishop Hendrik never caused a single casualty in his life, whereas Lalli was prone to violence. Maybe Bishop had in-laws on the opposing team. Maybe Lalli was a wanted man. By any reasonable standard, Lalli got what was coming to him.

Any two imaginary deaths are equally grievous.
Posted by lizvis on 2013-10-31 23:02:38
maybe we shouldn't allow turn 8 first half fouls so that all things are equal between the two teams. if you didn't recognize that as sarcasm, then you're not very bright.
Posted by Uedder on 2013-11-01 14:44:53
I love T 16 fouling rookie zombies if I'm losing.
Posted by Jopotzuki on 2013-11-01 21:14:20
Great comments here! Some people seem to be for this kind of fouling and some seem to be against it. I think that unnecessary fouling just ment to hurt your opponents team is something that I am against especially in R and B. I think that fouling in general is a valid tactic if there is a way that it can be used in the favour of the fouler. I wouldn't intentionally want to hurt my opponent exept maybe in our friends league ;)

I once let a MA 10, sprint, sure feet, blodge gutter runner off the hook with my Goblin chainsaw. Nuffle has punished me for it since!!! I felt sick after the game. At the time when I could have fouled him the game was gone. (I was down 0-5 on last turn.) At the time I felt that I would be doing it out of spite...... and by jove I have regretted not doing it ever since!! Because to not foul....well that just isn't BB!!! People have no problem fouling the poop out of my Goblin team on the last turn!!! Why should it be any different for anyone else?????

Foul, score, win, kill stuff...the end!
