Cellular Smart Things
So there really is just alot to go through so i will put up my work knowledge here on my own blog. I've worked in the cell phone industry selling the damn things (albeit in canada) for 3 years while ive been back at school and have been top of my company for it for the most part:

IPHONE: Is honestly an awesome phone, never was a fan of apple but its fast, the camera is amazing and it wont slow down for anything. Though in theory apple always releases a new iphone every october. could work to wait until november. I also understand theres a new type of battery that was in development that lasts much longer coming out in winter and many new phones will sport it. Only problem is accesability since you NEED and have to use apple store to add on or change anything on your phone.

ANDROID: Been using HTC for the last 5 years before there even was android and the new one is amazing as well.. you can always respect a cell phone made of metal. the new S3 is over the top, its too fast and very awesome though honestly any recent android phone can do the exact same things without slowing down. Android is amazing for accesibility and work. just plug the usb into any computer and use the phone like a flash drive. thats my big thing over apple.

**NOTE** Getting an LTE phone is amazing but it will eat and destroy your battery life on the phone. using the LTE network can half your already 1-2 day smartphone battery life. doing a 500mb download (in less then 10 minutes ftw) is amazing but youll lose like 40%+ battery life for the day.

TABLETS: Just imagine really really big smartphones that you cant call people with. a great replacement for a netbook since those things are icky and slow in general. Big question is do you want a 3/4g one you can get a monthly internet plan for or just use a wifi one that you can only grab other internet from(including your own new smartphone can be a wifi hotspot). both types have wifi like the phones.

Im stuck in Canada and dont know much about the intel phones. they are all fast and honestly just find something youll like to have in your pocket for 2-3 years.

Regarding LTE, if I understand then you don't need to be connected to LTE the whole time. Apps like Juice Defender will only connect you to 2G (increasing battery life) unless necessary - mine connects to 3G when I turn the screen on, for example.

Thanks for the post, I'd be interested in other peoples' opinions. I just moved back in to the city after spending the last two years living on the rez and am looking at getting my first smartphone. I'm pretty much ruling out Apple for philosophical reasons, but I'm intrigued by the notion of getting a tablet or new tablet-like "phone". Any suggestions?

@dode74- Yes everything that has LTE capabilities can also turn LTE off and just stick to standard 3g. To be honest, unless you have some amazing unlimited data plan that doesn't exist where i am from its not really necessary. Though many more cell providers are offering a few hours of free HD streaming Television every month to their customers. THAT is where LTE would/could be nice.

@PsyPhiGrad- It all depends on what looks good to you. If you have pockets that can fit a 5.3" Galaxy Note and you like the idea then gfi! the S3 is very slim for its huge screen (4.8") and fits well in medium-large hands. My size/everything favorite is the "HTC One S", a 4.3" screen is great. it uses gorilla glass (the phone will break before the screen does((trust me lol))) and it's active speakers are fluff but sound wonderful.

So Android suggestions(current):
-Samasung Galaxy Note (fricken big but nice)
-Samsung Galaxy S3 (uber fast)
-HTC One S (really pretty)

Also, the Motorola XT860 is a 'superphone' with a 5 line(with number line) keyboard. its a bit older but great for non berry keyboard people.

For Cheaper nice phones you can get on a voice only or voice with flexible data(cheaper plans):

-Motorola Motolux(8mpx camera)
-HTC One V(the cleft chin actually looks cool but cant remove battery)
Of course they are slower but still nice phones for cheaper.
