CRP Gold explained
No, this isn't actually any rules explanation.

Instead I'm going to talk about fluff today.
In particularly fluff about gold because the concept of inducements is probably hard to grasp for many.

a) Who gives me inducement money?
The inducement money is handed out by the stadium owner. The stadium owner reaps most of the benefits by organising the game.

b) Who gets the money the spectators pay for entrance?
The stadium owner gets all the money.

c) Why does the stadium owner give inducement money?
The stadium owners interest is to make sure that the highest possible amount of spectators appears to a game. So if he has to promote a game that is very unbalanced, he will provide the supposedly weaker side with a bunch of support options.

d) How can the stadium owner afford the high prices for inducements?
He can't and he doesn't. The stadium usually employs a staff consisting of 2 bloodwiser babes, a wiz, an apo, a range of referees a range of rookie players and some other personal.
Using these types of inducements simply fall under maintenance costs of the stadium and don't cost the stadium anything to bring up in a game.

e) Why do teams have to pay so much to buy inducements?
Running a stadium is expensive. The stadium charges commercial prices for commercial services and the money gained that way helps a big deal keeping the sport alive. Usually stadiums have clauses that forbid teams to bring more than a predifined number of staff on their own to the game.

f) But what about stars?
Stars aren't actually employed by the stadium owner but by the stadium association as contract players that travel between stadiums and can be booked for fixed prices. Fungus the Loon for example earns 16,000 gold for one appearance in a stadium. Morg N' Thorg earns 86,000 gold for an appearance. If the stadium owner provides inducements he has to actually pay this price out of his income, however if he gets a Coach to request a star player he can charge 5 times the price and recieves 60% of the money as pure benefits for the stadium. 20% go towards the star (thats his contract price) and the remaining 20% go towards the stadium association.

g) What if both teams hire babes and the stadium doesn't have enough employed to provide them?
If the stadium is understaffed it can request additional staff for a small charge from the stadium association. That is usually 10% of the amount the stadium owner would charge a team for the same services. The service of a wizard for a game from the association would cost a fee of 15,000 gold for example. A lucrative buisness for casting a single spell.

h) If the stadium owner gets all the money, how do the teams get paid?
Payments are usually negotiated after the game between the stadium owner and the teams based on the entertainment value of the game and the stadiums current situation. There is no garantee to be paid well if the coach negotiates poorly but stadium owners are supposed to hand out a miminum of 10,000 Gold for a game and a minimum of 20,000 Gold for the winner.

i) Why don't I get any more money once I have a better team?
The stadium owner doesn't only pay the teams a fee but also covers for the price of the players performances. This is usually negotated as part of the teams salary with the coach. So while a better team gets in fact a lot more money for their performance, the percentage the team recieves instead of the players gets smaller and smaller. Although better teams don't always produce more spectators and larger income, the stadium owner is still required to pay more for additional perfomance executed in a game.

j) How does Spiralling Expenses work?
Spiralling expenses start kicking in when the stadium association is no longer willing to provide additional money because it has been statistically proven that teams beyond a threshold of 1750 TV as assigned by the association doesn't draw a larger amount of spectators anymore.
In addition the stars of the team usually will start to be more demanding, requesting bonuses above their ground salary after surviving a larger number of games or threaten ot wander off, although it is mandatory that they have to remain in the team for life or upon release due to contract.
The stadium owner is still supposed to cover parts of the expenses but is likely going to write it off as other expenses or blatantly charge the head coach for the costs.

k) How much does a player earn in bloodbowl?
The stadium owner pays a player usually about 5% of his by the stadium association defined team value. So a player in a team recieves actually much lower salary than a star player. The main benefit for a player is in the buy in salary he recieves for joining the stadium association that is paid by the head coach out of the teams treasury, however even there 50 % of the buy in money goes to company that trained the rookie, usually to the stadium association. A rookie human lineman would for example recieve 25,000 gold buy in money and then 2,500 gold for a game. Maintaining a full rookie team costs as much as 50,000 Gold per game. A 2000 TV team would cost as much as 130,000 Gold per game (from of wich on average 20,000 Gold would be payed directly by the head coach.)

l) How much does a stadium owner earn from a game?
That depends on the amount of spectators and what he charges. Stadiums will have a loss many times featuring games but can usually rely to make a benefit long term.
On average a ticket to a game is charged 20 Gold and the average game visited by 32,000 spectators generating an income of 640,000 Gold from of wich about 200,000 Gold will go in stadium maintenance and paid inducements, And on average about 120,000 Gold to each team& players, aswell as another 64,000 Gold to the association leaving a total of 96,000 Gold benefit for the stadium on a good day.

I'm not a fan of this sort of fluff. It's the 'This is an unrealistic game mechanic, so let's think up a plausible reason why it should be included' type fluff. That said, you've done a pretty good job, so I won't vote on it. Inducements are much better than handicaps used to be, but stink a bit when added with TV.

I really enjoyed this. I actually like trying to shoehorn a plausible explanation into an unrealistic situation, and I think you did a good job here. My only gripe is I don't like how the stadium owner is paying the players' salaries directly. But you put more thought into it than me so I'll overlook that portion. Good job!

Randy_Moss approved fluff. Where can I buy a stadium?
Posted by Nelphine on 2012-11-16 07:35:05
hum.. the stadium owner makes 100k gold per game. That implies that he needs a certain number of games per year to actually cover the cost of the stadium maintenance when games are not being played, which explains why the profit 'seems' so high.

I like it! Makes lots of sense.

Hm - this isn't actually wteckages fluff he has just elaborated on the fluff that was in crp. Though I completely agree with you, it doesn't make sense, especially when considering the background from every edition before it. It's just more of the same - create a rule, then write up some contrived fluff so that it fits.
Handicaps were worse in some respects no doubt, but I cannot stand how the stars and wizards are inducements, they used to be what you spent money on, now there is nothing.

I like how CRP was a weird mechanic and you've crunched the numbers to make them make pseudosense within this weird mechanic.
Posted by Wang on 2012-11-16 16:51:55
This is tongue-in-cheek, right?
Posted by Garion on 2012-11-16 18:34:15
No Wang this is the actual fluff, Wreckage just embelished to make it make more sense.
Posted by Wreckage on 2012-11-16 18:59:24
The rulebook hasn't botherd with lenghty reasons for their new system, I figure they just wanted to use something they thought makes sense, balance wise.
There isn't really as much as an explanation but as far as explanations have been made and reasons are hinted I have been trying to stay close to canon of course and show that you don't have to be stuck with a mindframe that says: Fluff is out of the window.
Posted by Garion on 2012-11-16 20:07:46
what about teams that own their own stadiums?
Posted by Wreckage on 2012-11-16 21:18:29
I think if you would want to allow something like that you would have to house rule it.
Posted by bghandras on 2012-11-17 08:01:04
Error in the system: Teams with more fans should be favoured by owners, but it is missing. (Yes, this is a tongue in cheek reply.)
Posted by Wreckage on 2012-11-17 12:30:55
I'd argue the stadium owners have no way of determining if a team is favored by fans or not, ie. he doesn't have the same level of access to informations about the teams as we do and that his only way of determining a teams fame is its value.
