i'm not sure that an internet fantasy football computer game web site is the proper place for postmodern(or maybe even vaguely dadaist?) social commentary about islamic terrorism. hope this help's
-sincerely, a friend
Posted by pythrr on 2015-12-21 07:04:16
what is the correct venue? who are you to judge?
Posted by harvestmouse on 2015-12-21 07:11:15
I'm a pythrr fan...... but yeah I saw the result come in, went for an inspection as it's a new team and I wasn't surprised to see it had been reported.
It'll be down to the admins..........personally, I would push it upstairs as it's Christer's site.
I'm with animefreak on this. However i'm very right wing on these sort of issues on the site.
Posted by animefreak2599 on 2015-12-21 07:14:01
because its a site ruled by stuffy middle aged(old) people who don't like controversy, duh. the correct venue is probably with your friends, or if you swing by #metabox on irc sometime ill gladly laugh about dumb things and make fun of people with you as long as you're not a gross bigot.
i'm not making any judgments of any sort, except for calling people who play internet fantasy football on the internet computer old(which is also factual i'm pretty sure). my feet are really cold so im going to go to bed like i've been trying to do for an hour ok. see you later. bye. toodle oo. take care. good day. so long. smell you later. peace out.

2 big guys, 3 rerolls, a cheerleader, an assistant coach... Are you sure it wasn't reported for crimes against minmax pact by someone expressing an preference for intense strategy?
Posted by Wreckage on 2015-12-21 07:42:49
I can tell from the way anifreak talks he must be realizing how controversial his "look away" approach is.
Perhaps we should just meet half way as the middle aged fat people you all are and leave Pythrr and his team alone to avoid further controversiality then?
Posted by pythrr on 2015-12-21 07:44:40
assistant coaches (aka BOMB MAKER) and cheerleaders (AKA VIRGINS IN HEAVEN) are ESSENTIAL!!!!
Posted by tussock on 2015-12-21 08:09:34
Don't be an ass, insulting people's religion, by, for instance, referring to their prophet as a terrorist, is really fucking obviously against the site's rules. You idiot.
Posted by SpecialOne on 2015-12-21 08:40:45
My stand in this is: "...". I don't really believe in any religion, as I pretty much see them all as outdated. But when we come about hurting other peoples feelings. I don't know. It gets tricky. What can one actually name a team, and who has the right to be offended? Over some makebelieve "god" or "prophet"?
Should I be offended that this is an issue? You guys are in my opinion fighting over someones imaginary friend...

please stop swearing (breaking site rules).
please stop the personal abuse
I'm not abusing anyone's religion. I'm mocking terrorists. please learn the difference.

pretty much this
it may be funny to most of us, but it obviously was not funny to whoever reported your team
Posted by pythrr on 2015-12-21 08:54:12
I'm pretty sure that quoting lines from the satircal movie "Team America" does not constitute "religious persecution" (from the site rules).
jesus, you'll be telling me one can't have a team themed on pedophile catholic priests next....

thanks for that, Dominik
rather than being a douche on purpose and trying to hide behind the letter of the rules you could try considering the spirit or overall aim behind the rule - it's probably something like "try not to be a dick"

Personally I don't like the team. At all. Even though it's a parody team.
I'm leaving this to the admin group as a whole to make a decision.

I also got mad years ago because my Milkgland Riders were renamed, but i got over it, maybe you can get over this one as well!

Posted by grunth on 2015-12-21 10:37:54
++++++1 pythrr, you have my total support...
i am french, very involved in associations who defend republic and laicity, and this sort of joking team makes me laugh... no problem with it !
Vive la République,
Vive la Laïcité,
Vive la loi de 1905,
Vive la France !
Posted by Emphasy on 2015-12-21 10:39:44
Are you not ENTERTAINED?!?!
Pesonally I do not see the problem, and half my family are muslims. When Tussock put = between terrorists and muslims, THEN I honestly get offended. Ignorance BS is what it is.
I do live in Denmark, and we do make fun of everyone here (remember the Muhammed-drawings?), so personally I can not see the problem with this team. We also make fun og our queen, our prince, our head of state, multidisabled people, fat people, thin people etc. Why should terrorists be sacred to mock?
Posted by bigbullies on 2015-12-21 10:51:40
at this stage id like to quote pythrr.....
Posted by Dunenzed on 2015-12-21 11:19:20
If it was a team of goblin linemen and a bombardier then it'd having me laughing. Chaos Pact = missed opportunity.
But even then I'd understand if someone was offended. To claim not to recognize the potential for this is astounding, and is either deliberately provocative or severely mentally impaired.
If it's both then I think we just unmasked our villian. pythrr = Donald Trump?
Posted by Badoek on 2015-12-21 11:36:54
I think this is all a big misunderstanding. I think it's just the team picture that's been reported. Cafe press' C&D incoming!
Posted by koadah on 2015-12-21 11:49:15
The team IMO appears to be in pretty bad taste. What else could we expect from Pythrr? Considering that planes are being blown up and people are being murdered I really don't see what is so funny about it.
As much as I oppose and am disgusted by the extremist terrorists I really, really do not like Charlie Hebdo. I would never want to see them murdered. But even so. I really do not like them.
If that image is supposed to be the prophet Mohammed then yes I do have a problem with that. If it is not Mohammed but is intended to be mistaken for him then I have a problem with that too.
Posted by Joost on 2015-12-21 12:52:47
Bad taste, methinks. Not because of potentially offended people because of religious reasons (I don't see a religious insult), but because of the victims and their families. Would it be helpful to find this team as your opponent, out of the blue?
It doesn't help that I think the joke is simply not that funny. Not "offensive not funny", but "lame not funny" (obviously this is my opinion. If others thought it was hilarious, so much the better). As Dunenzed said: choosing goblins would have made it a lot funnier.
So, nothing to be gained + potential harm done to people that don't need another blow = bad idea.
Now, I'm not saying it should be banned or anything similar. Just that I don't like it.
Posted by Woodstock on 2015-12-21 13:53:24
Too much PC/SJW around here. If I started removing any thing with bad taste/poor form/etc etc... FUMBBL would die quicker than BB2.

For me too many of the player names don't clearly enough signify/mock islamist terrorists and so the team as a whole does not clearly differentiate between muslims and extremists, and I find that offensive. Otherwise, the humour is not to my taste but crack on, I suppose.
Posted by keggiemckill on 2015-12-21 15:01:32
I'm on the fence with this one. It reminds me of Chimp Rapiers. The name isn't offensive to me, but the intent is to be borderline, and I can see the problem from others.
I think that even if get approval to use this team, you will have it reported often. You may want to save yourself the headache and move on from it.
Posted by vaclav on 2015-12-21 15:13:33
I have one team and i hope the name is not offensive, in fact it shouldnt be. That is: Mozart - Leck mich im Arsch.

Posted by Uedder on 2015-12-21 15:43:40
I'm with Woodstock here. Too much PC. Is the team funny? No, I don't think it's humorous. Not because of the theme, but because it lacks humor. But that's personal taste.
Is it bad taste? Yeah, maybe, to someone, who cares?
Is it offensive to anyone?
How can it be? It's not about religion, it's not about anything but stupid people blowing themselves up (really how stupid you got to be to blow yourself up?).
It's like saying dorfs are offensive to short people. And blood bowl is offensive to all the people who tragically die in sports.
This is no Charlie Hebdo, this is no freedom of speech site, so if it's taken down, so be it, who cares?
But all this people crying out for offensive content... really, what's offensive?

Well, Im all for mocking every religion out there! Much to my amusement and ofcourse it is my right to do so.
And on the other hand, someone may be offended for something like this, maybe they have a relative that been killed by muslim terrorsist and Think it is tasteless, but then again, he/she has every right to rapport it.
Just hope u can still have the same team cause othervise we will be offended by Everything.....
Posted by Gozer_the_Gozerian on 2015-12-21 16:47:00
Seems pretty tame to me: no drawings of Mohammed, or jokes about falafel farts, hairy moles or unibrows. I guess it doesn't take much to offend people these days.
Posted by Wreckage on 2015-12-21 16:54:25
The image has been changed.
Before it was a drawing of a guy with a beard and some explosives on the belt.
On top of it some text written i couldn't read. Perhaps the people who got upset could read it and it said something offensive. I'm pretty sure noone would be judgemental when they only understand half the message. :)
Posted by Chainsaw on 2015-12-21 16:59:35
The prophet Mohammad was a paedophile.
"For the Western mind, perhaps the most disturbing fact about Islam is that its founder had a sexual relationship with a nine-year-old girl."
Screw religion. That is all.
Posted by Jeffro on 2015-12-21 17:28:09
I reported it.
I was offended that what is supposed to be dynamite looks more like Slim Jim's beef sticks.
Learn to photoshop better, pythrr, or more reports are in order. I am sick of your sloppiness.
Posted by PainState on 2015-12-21 17:33:58
I will stay out of this one. My area of expertise to get FUMBBL all worked up is politics.
I will say that as a person with a Western mind Iam not worked up about the founder of Islam and pedophille.
Iam disturbed that the founder of Islam decimated the middle east and it has been a mess ever since.
Posted by Wreckage on 2015-12-21 18:56:47
It's been a mess before him. The middle east is basically the collision point of the three continents. Any expanding empire is sooner or later bound to swallow the region.
No matter if Babylonians, Assyrians, Hethites, Phoenicians, Egyptians, Jews(=religious Caanites), Persians, Greeks, Romans. All of them have been clashing there ruthelessly way before.
The area is not only a collision point, it's also open terrain which makes it hard to protect from invasion forces. On top of it's very fertile land (today with oil).
Ideoligically the west can take a bit of the high ground in this situation because:
Jesus approached religion as an idealist.
Mohammed approached religion as a realist.
Both in the context of their time.
To say that all religions are the same in this context is equally as ignorant.
Nobody starts a war when there is nothing to gain. Wars aren't a result of religion, they are a result of being realistic in terms of ressources needed, potential threats, territory. Especially when you live in a hostile region like the middle east.
The christian approach is to say: In Spite of everything christianity teaches, there has to be a realistic expansion to the teachings of jesus in the sense that there is still a justifications for war... if and only if you are fighting for justified reasons (whereas justified/merciful would be from the perspective of a christian of course equivalent to 'fighting for christianity'). But if you do fight a war you still never can be as good of a christian as a pacifist would be.
Mohammeds approach in response to this is to say: You are wrong in the way that you postulate it as a special circumstance, an exception. It's perfectly fine to fight for the right reasons. If you are pushed into a corner you don't have to be ashamed to pick up arms. You are just as good of a person, you can have the very same religious dignity. You do not have to bow your head in shame. Be proud, be honest. And then he continues to explain what is really relevant to be a good person in terms of how people conducted their buisness pre islam and how they should behave instead.
It's getting a bit weird tho when you are not allowed to have a discussion about what behavior exercised by ancient people in an ancient context may be viewed as problematic today without fear of retaliation.
Failure to discuss is also always the biggest source of misconception. To say the least if you don't seek the dialogue you won't really convince anybody.
The behavior of anyone doing realistic policy 600 AD, the way any such person conducts themselves, can't be a good example of how to live our lives today. Not because he was wrong but whatever improvements he suggested we have already made.
Striving for ideals of Jesus Christ however is still possible because it is an ideal and those are not easy to accomplish. We are certainly closer to it today but still miles away from how it could be. - Which by the way not to want to fight wars at all is a christian ideal to begin with.
Then if you continue to look at all the other religions, you'll noticed that they are about very different things sometimes have entirely different concepts.
