#17 Brian Quickrock – Damaged Back (NI)
A fast and furious game that was over almost before I'd settled into it. The rats were on a mission, and their mission seemed to be hit anything elfy as often, and as regularly as possible. This was certainly what their first turn seemed to be saying as they pointed into my group of huddled defenders.

Still, this left the rat ogre standing right next to the tree, so with a bit of luck I could take care of a big threat right at the start of the game, and if not, then it would at least tie him up and possibly force the rats to score quickly. So perhaps unsurprisingly, the tree then failed his take root, rolled double skulls and then failed his PRO.

Which led to more rats bashing more elves for a few more turns while the ball wandered up and down the field with no intention of getting itself to the endzone until turn 8.

I didn't bother to set up for the one-turner because I just don't really have the equipment for it right now, but a quick riot gave me an extra turn and as the rats had all set up way deep, ~I was able to run five players down to get ready for the final turn score. It took the wardancer having to leap, and dodge, and the thrower hitting on a 4+, but a sneaky score was achieved and I was able to go into the second half feeling slightly more positive about my prospects.

The rats were still bashing everything that came anywhere near them though, and their greater speed and manoeuvrability meant that getting any receivers out in the open was a big ask.

But I managed it, and then failed the go for it with a reroll that would have given me the score. And of course then the rats swarmed me, grabbed the ball, bashed me some more and ran it all the way to the other end at a leisurely pace which just about allowed me to keep up with them, but not quite.

But as they were stalling, I got what defence I could still muster and made a desperate attempt on the final two turns, but Ohwatch made sure I wasn't going to be able to do much more than set up some more players for a bit of late bashing. There was one exciting moment on the final turn, when the rat ogre double skulled his block, but the successful reroll came so quickly I almost had no time to get excited before I was flat on the deck and the gutter runner ran it in.

A painless game, and certainly one of the quickest I've played in a long while, but not exactly satisfying. The tree failed his take root three times and had nothing to show for his seven blocks. The failed go for it for the score was particularly annoying for obvious reasons, and the lack of time on offence meant I had nothing but 2 for 13 on passing.

Still, at least the game got played. It was actually carried over from late last night when the game was first offered and accepted, but for some reason it didn't show up and after a while I got bored and went to bed. So sorry, Ohwatch, for the long delay, and I'm glad we could get it sorted so quickly today. And congrats on the win.
