“It's not often I find myself actually rooting for my opponent - after all, the point is generally to beat them. But here, HebeFeelya had such terrible luck in the first few turns and I hardly failed a single dice roll, so that I was able to score off both the first two slann drives.

And I got to do it with barely a scratch along the way.

So by the half I was 2-0 up and was really hoping that HebeFeelya was going to get some better luck in the second half, otherwise what could have been a really even and hard-fought match was going to become even more one-sided than it already was.

I scored on my opening drive, but made it a quick one and gave the slann plenty of time to try and pull one back. This they did, rather impressively, in two turns. Then I scored in two turns. Then HebeFeelya scored in two turns. It was fast and furious stuff, with plenty of passing, a couple of wounding hits and some stylish play on both sides (and a leaping wardancer who fell flat on his face, just to prove that wood elves can't jump).

There was plenty of passing all the way through the game, the slann pulling off an impressive 6 passes - though they were generally short and safe. For my part, I was chucking the old pigskin with careless abandon, racking up 61 yards with the thrower. And then, on my final turn, I chose to throw to the rookie catcher, even though he was in a TZ and there was another one free over to one side. I even advertised it as interception time, and HebeFeelya was more than happy to oblige. I don't really mind. The game was already won, and even though another 14 yards of passing would have been nice, HebeFeelya deserved to come away with something more than two scores for his efforts and this was a nice way to finish the match.

I don't often play games after midnight (UK time) so I don't often get to play many US coaches, but this time it was definitely worth the couple of hours of missed sleep.

Although I may change my mind about that in five hours time when I have to get up!
