Winners of XFL VIII!


This was my first ever Lizardman team. While I made the team just to get Kam his first ever [R] game, they have quickly become one of my favorite teams, if not my favorite [R] team.

Team concept and history
This team is all about building sauri. This means I will be quite picky to get games that let me do so (squishies, pomb is ok but no claw). However, it also means that I will wind up giving games away by failing tons of 5+ pickups/catches (some examples). So: do you want an easy win with elves? This is the team to play against. =) Want to beat up skinks with humans or undead? This is the place.
The team has been amazingly lucky with its injury rolls. They all happen to either the Krox, or to the one saurus with the fewest skills (such as in this match). This also explains the iteration numbers on shirts #1 and #5. This has resulted in 5 sauri that managed to reach superstar level unscathed (though one got -AV in his 100th game). Of those 5, the (only) one with Mb has since reached legend, and I just added another.
As a primarily elfballing coach, one of my goals in playing Lizards was to learn the blocking/guarding/positioning/stalling game. Since dodging doesn't feature into that much, I kept the team low on break tackle (no earlier than 4th skill). Since I wanted it to be about blocking and positioning more than outnumbering, I also skipped mighty blow early on (so far just one, as 3rd skill). Instead, I prioritized block, dodge, guard, and tackle. This also helped in getting (fun) games, of course. My ideal would be to to have 11 blodgers on the team at some point, though now that Rough rolled his 6th normal skill, I also hope to never get there. The closest I've gotten to that point was 9 x block (Krox and 2 skinks) and 7 x dodge (3 sauri) on 11 players.

I estimate that I played over 90% of this team's games with an 11 player roster. Having a full complement of sauri and a krox (since facing little claw Mb) often means that your skinks will take few hits. Even when you lose 1 or 2 skinks, it still plays almost like having a full team, especially with developed (blodge BT guard etc) sauri. When preparing for a tournament I go to 12 or maybe even 13, because the teams faced there can be very destructive, and having a sacrificial 60k skink or 2 to stick on a(n often tackle-less and sometimes even blockless) clawpomber can really save your sauri, both for the tournement game, the next game, and for their carreer.

Touchdown stats:
Saurus TDs: 92 (12 on past players)
Skink TDs: 100
Krox TDs: 6
Concession TDs: 4 (!) In 4 different games my opponent conceded while the score was 0-0. Safe to say, most of these games would have featured saurus TDs as well.

Total: 202
(at this point I stopped counting, because I had stopped focusing on saurus TDs too much.

Despite making prodigious amounts of cash, the team refused to get rich for a long time due to Krox turnover: my first Krox lasted one game, and got -AV. My second Krox lasted five games, and got -AV.
My 3rd Krox was a bit different: he lasted 18 games, 31 SPPs, and was then retired for not rolling doubles 3 times. My fourth Krox was right back on schedule: while also lasting 18 games, he got -AV. The fifth was finally a good one, who scored 2 TDs in one game to roll doubles for block. Fortunately he stuck around a bit longer, lasting 29 games and earning 38 SPPs. Number 6 wasn't very impressive, 22 SPPs in 19 games (then niggle).

Saved up 1M after 54 games (at TV 2100).

A sad moment in the team's history was game 78, where we were unable to defeat our mentally retarded cousins.

I wanted to use this image for the logo but due to admin concerns about nudity I had to settle for the slightly 'censored through crop' version shown to the left.

Past greats:
Scaly was my top scorer, my favorite saurus, my LoS legend.
Fast was an excellent ball carrier.
Bashy was great at tying up heaps of elves.

Tourney history:
Went into the UI, got Synn's dwarves in the first round. Given how dodge-reliant my team is, that was not a nice matchup. They outdiced me hard (bashwise) first half, I outdiced them hard (with a few very lucky underdog key rolls) second half. My KOs kept sucking, he received on overtime, and managed the score.

First time into the XFL, won it!
