The Reichstag, the legislative body of the Holy Roman Empire, deemed it necessary to elect a leader to defend their lands. Although the empire was made up of dozens of individual entities, each with their own governor, it would take a very powerful and charismatic individual to unite them all. A prospective Emperor had first to be elected King of the Romans, and after the Reichstag had issued the 'Golden Bull,' which limited the electors to seven, any candidate for election would be expected to offer concessions of land or money to the electors in order to secure their vote.

The most powerful governors at the time were Charlemagne and Otto the Great. The governors had taken sides (and bribes,) leading to a division in the empire. The two sides were fairly even, but only one man could become king. Thus the two sides met on the battlefield, where one of the bloodiest contests ever would be waged. Near the end of it all, Charlemagne and Otto met face to face, and an epic clash began. The two battled it out for hours, with neither side gaining an advantage, but neither side backed down with the crown on the line.

Meanwhile, in Rome, word reached the Pope of the clash of titans for the crown of the Holy Roman Empire. After being elected, the King of the Romans could theoretically claim the title of "Emperor" only after being crowned by the Pope. But the H.R.E. and the Pope often didn't get along, and the current Pope wasn't a fan of either Charlemagne or Otto. Seeing a way to kill two birds with one stone, the Pope cursed the site of the battlefield to prevent the souls of the fallen warriors from rising to the heavens.

Meanwhile, with both armies devastated and the two leaders exhausted, the clouds gathered and the skies darkened. The winds picked up. Lightning began striking all around the battlefield. The two leaders, solely focused in on their opponent, ignored the danger around them to finish the fight. Both combatants went for the killer blow, and both hopeful kings were gutted by their adversary. Falling to the ground, the two warriors died with the quarrel, and the crown, undecided. It looked like the H.R.E. would be leaderless and thus vulnerable to invasion, but something sinister intervened.

The Pope's curse was twisted around by an unnatural force, and a massive lightning bolt struck the battlefield full of dead bodies. Rather than preventing the souls from rising to the heavens, someone, or something, deemed that instead the bodies would rise from the dead. The two leaders' bodies were damaged too severely to rise again as mere zombies, but the walking dead gathered the two corpses and limped off into the cover of darkness.

Decades later, with the empire fractured and under invasion from all sides, the Reichstag was under siege by crusading forces under the Pope's banner. The H.R.E. was deemed corrupt and impure by the church, so it was going to be burned down by holy fire and start anew (under the church's supervision, of course.) But the storm clouds started to gather over the city as the crusading forces began entering the legislative building itself. As soldiers started to set the city on fire, a new army emerged from the darkness. The shambling bodies of the undead began to enter the city, killing all living creatures they could find. As this new unholy threat closed in around them, the crusading soldiers prayed for salvation. The warrior-priest with them unveiled a holy-sword, charged into the ranks of the undead, and began cutting them down with an in-human fervor. But two large monsters stepped forward, shaking the ground as they walked. The mummified bodies of Charlemagne and Otto the Great stood in front of the priest, almost daring him to attack them. The priest, taken aback at first, tightened his grip on his sword and charged the unholy beasts, certain that his god would empower him to victory. With one fell swoop, the priest slashed through both monstrosities and turned around to look at his troops as they cheered. But it soon stopped as the priest was impaled through his chest by a fist from one of the mummies. The monster then tore his head off and threw the body to the side, before letting out a bone-chilling roar. The waves of undead rambled forward into the Reichstag, killing any crusading soldiers that remained. As the frenzied hordes devoured the last of the tasty brains, another massive lightning bolt struck the city, and the dead rose to swell the ranks of the unholy army in the city. The bodies of the electors and others who made up the Reichstag rose as well, thereby uniting the empire's governing body.

For the next few years, this unholy army slowly made its way across the ravaged lands of the empire, reclaiming cities and towns from the crusaders and any others who got in their way. From the unholy capital building, the Reichstag, a new banner rose above the streets: the banner of the Unholy Roman Empire. No longer was there a need to elect a king and get the Pope's blessing. No longer was there a need for agriculture or trade. The only goal of the new empire was to kill anyone standing in their way of crushing the Pope and ending the curse.

The Unholy Roman Empire began its crusade to destroy the Church in a campaign known as the "Spring Peace Skirmishs South" to the historians that were brave enough to follow the army (and lucky enough to live.) The first opposing army to stand in their way was a band of Macedonian warriors. They had a few good warriors, but the dark gods favored the Empire and they were victorius in the end. Not long after, some comrades from Soviet Kislev decided to try a sneak attack on Imperial troops, but ambushing an undead army in the night is very....stupid. The Soviets were decimated in the skirmish, perhaps crushing their ability to fight for quite some time. A while later, an amphibious invasion from Greenlaand was launched against the Empire, and the army trudged out to meet them in battle. The two sides were evenly matched, so the Greens were unable to gain a foothold on Imperial soil and forced to withdraw...for now.

With their victories mounting, the Empire's borders expanded to include a nearby sea to their capital. The straights that formed the entrance were now under the control of the undead. Thinking was far beyond the capabilities of the troops, much less naming something, but luckily historians were clever enough to call it "Thank the Unholy Father for Straight Women." Thank him indeed ;)

Feeling ambitious, the Imperial army made a turn into a contested battlefield, where the Barbaric Huns had dominated the local mobs that had challenged their authority. The legendary Atilla wasn't at the battle, but his second-in-command, Bleda, was there to lead the troops. The weather was god-awful, as the entire battlefield was covered in snow, and the Imperial army wasn't fit properly to handle the conditions. Both armies slaughtered the crap out of each other, so much so that Bleda was actually killed by Charlemagne. But the Huns had a solid medical staff, and they managed to revive him with their voodoo magic. But Charlemagne was determined to bring him down, so he hit him with such force that he broke his back. Scattered reports claim that Bleda somehow made it back to Atilla, only to be eaten by the Hun's commander. Despite the loss of their commander, the Huns still managed to defeat the Imperial army in the snowy conditions. The Imperial forces trudged back to their borders in the cover of night, but they vowed to return to finish off the Hun's leader Atilla, if he was brave enough to face them next time.

Spring Skirmish Motion
Biological Weapons Ban

The Dirty Player status is restricted. Countries and individuals will refrain from the general distribution of taking DP and may henceforth only take DPs from the rare and secluded private sector. As such only those players who roll doubles for their skill-up may acquire the DP skill going forward.

Summer Skirmish Motion
Gnomish Assistance Proposal

We've recieved complaints worldwide from countless gnomes who have lost loved ones to the so-called "Mighty Blow". They suggest that players only be allowed to take Mighty Blow on a roll of Doubles or if there is no other skill for said player to take.
