History of the Saints of Sigmar

The Witch Hunter's Guild: Cleansing Chaos since 1682.

When you're a citizen of the holdings of the Grand Theogonist, there's often not much one can do for fun. Sure there's the usual bars and taverns that every town in the Empire has, but anything more than that, and one is liable to be branded as a heretic by the constant tide of Warrior Priests that are traveling in and out of the city to meet with His Holiness.

Because of that, it should come as no surprise that Blood Bowl, one of the few events immune from religious sanctions, draws such a home crowd. Located not even a mile from His Holiness's seat of power, the Saint's pitch often draws a crows far more holy than is natural for the sport. Priests, witch hunters, and even the Grand Theogonist himself are frequent spectators, and more than once divine intervention has been accused of making up for the player's shortcomings during critical plays.

Sponsored by a Witch Hunter by the name of Willhelm, the Saints were formed in response to what is considered by religious figures to be a frankly alarming increase in the number of teams fielded by Chaos powers. As such before every game, but especially before those against the Ruinous Powers, every player is anointed with sacred oils and is blessed by priests, and those who fall see their bodies burned, so that no foul powers can disturb their well earned eternal rest.

Of course, actually finding men who are both Pious and Blood Bowl players is especially difficult. The result is that while the occasional knighted man is brought aboard the team, the majority of the team is made of criminals who were given a stay of execution if they agreed to join the team.
