Pfft - I was a player who got OK at best results on the team that won the World Cup, and I've not been ranked first for a couple of months. Let's not resort to hyperbolae! Wink

Crawley Creepers vs Holy Cliffs

The first ever game of the Creepers in the conferences was a very weird one. Exactly 150 k in inducements meant the rats got a wizard.

Delves received and managed to hurt a few rats (-AV and niggles ftw!). Kept the formation wizard unfriendly until turn 8, when not fouling a gutter (hate fouling) allowed for a no reroll lightning bolt, hard multi dodge, pass to AG3, hand-off to AG3, puttin the rats 1-0 ahead and receiving. Dire straits. Second half (misclick riot) saw a quick rat score after losing the ball by the sideline.
Game rats, right?

Delves push for 2TTD. 2-1. Blitz KOR, 2-2. I'm foolish so I don't stall for the tie. Blitz KOR, 3-2! Crazy, I tell you.

2-0 down on T3 second half and you win 3-2? That's difficult!!

Winter Island Legion 0 - 0 Nafia

Seven foolhardy specs made a racket as Ogres and Khemri of the rookie persuasion took to the field to mess about in the rain.

Gavin’s Ogres of MB worry went first, and eventually (first and only time) hire Sinnebad got a Stab at the ball Snotling. Fail! AV5 was massive! Luckily, he got another go, the ball popped, and the Sizzler scooped on a 6. A desperation Snotling mark in T8 survived six dice and a failed Dodge, and 0-0 at the half was assured.

The rain remained and the Sizzler scooped once more. Only to be foiled by a failed GFI and a coaching panic one of three Snotlings may not get KOd on 3 dicers. The coaching worry and Tomb Guardian one conspired to a Snotling breakway foiled by not one but two dodge smash KOs!

0-0 and enormous fun. We’re past the TV1000 fun stuff now and into the ‘remember it’s all for spps’ portion of playing monster teams, and Desmond Lineman asked for a reaction from the only player to so far skill on the Khemri fter a TG MVP, captain ‘Dangerous’ Dave Downes.

“I got Block. So you should join the NAF, you Lapdog!”

Quite.

Ponies WIL Win 3 - 0 Second Class Lounge

The second game for the rookie team Ponies WIL Win, and after beating some Heavily Advantaged Amazons they were feeling confident.

The Ponies started by receiving, and quickly scored a classic two-turner. The lizards attempted to score quickly in retaliation, but were turned over with the aid of Hubris Rakarth. Though there was some jockeying for the ball, the elves got it to a blodging Blitzer, who walked it in for a 2-0 lead. The lzards put up a spirited effort, but failed to score in the remainder of the half.

The second half saw the lizards receiving, but a Blitz! from the elves meant that they got the ball. They lost it two turns later however, as a triple-skull by the ballcarrier brought him to the floor. Fortunately, three out of five skinks were already out for the count, and the lizards failed to capitalise. Knocking the ball loose, the elves managed to get it to another catcher, who sprinted forward in T15, and stalled to score the game-ender on T16.

Ebil Zneaky Worzhipperz 2 - 1 Zomb

The Worzhipperz was to kick the ball and already on their first beating on the LOS a Hobgoblin went to the box. The the two mummies kept on sending the players around them prone while the 2 key Bulls of Worzhippers slipped through Zomb's wide open sides down to force pressure on the ball carrier. Despite a bull dodge blitz on his ball carrier and a failed GFI by the ball carrier, the Worzhipperz could not manage to stop the half score for 0-1

Zomb got a blitz, but lucky they could not take full advantage of it. The Worzhipperz managed through one of the sides to force their way through for a 1-1 in turn 5. Jiiiiim forgot how long a Bull could move and a failed pickup resolved in that pressure was put on his whole line while one of the Bulls managed to pick up the ball in a TZ. Zomb managed to drop the strip ball Bull, but with his entire team locked down in TZ the team could not manage to secure the ball. A hobgoblin picked up the ball while the a small screen was made to ensure that it would be very hard for any Zomb player to make a blitz and therefore the match ended with 2-1 for The Ebil Zneaky Worzhipperz.

Thanks for the match. The game could have gone both ways. Great spirit between both coaches. Fun game

Nafia 1-1 Shameless Denizens

The third rookie vs rookie game for the shamblers, and finally a touchdown was let in.

With the ball first, Khemri drove forward, but were unable to penetrate. As is the way with Amazons, in the end 60odd blocks only yielded a T16 CAS, so when the Blocky Dodgy buggers jam you up, AG2 is rarely enough to get away.

0-0 at the half then, and the Amazons chose to put a quickie in to break our TD’s against duck. Despite a mega frustration error, the Khemri were able to retaliate let on with a breathless Blitz-ra display of quality ball work.
So, our rookie-off matchups over with, the Nafia now move onto games where they’re huge underdogs. Attempting to rack up spps is more or less all we can hope for, so here we go!

Ebil Zneaky Worzhipperz 0 - 0 My Fellow Armoricans

ianwelby first played against RedFish and got a beating. So meet another dane, get another beating right?

So far so good, wiz and 2babes are hired and we get to start the match. After a few turns, the Armoricans went flying out of the field. The evil looking mino of Armoricans did nothing and it looked like Worzhipperz would get an easy win. BUT, the Worzhipperz forgot to move forward instead they just fought a step infront of the LOS with the ball carrier safely secured at the LOS. So the Worzhipperz had to leave the ball carrier open for a blitz down the side and down he went. The Worzhipperz was not able to pick up the ball and hand it over for a TD.

2nd half and a blitz for the Worzhipperz. The Worzhipperz and Armoricans fought in one big huge group fighting over control of the ball. Each time the Worzhipperz could have got away with the ball, they failed. It was like at crucial moments, bad luck would struck the Worzhipperz. A bull got free with the ball, but was hunted down by the Armoricans. In the last second, the wizzard fired a lightning ball at the foremost Armoricans so he could not receive the ball in order to attempt for a TD.

Great fun and lots of small talk ^^. In the 2nd half, there was no telling who would have won the match. Someone kill that MINO of Armoricans!

Blackjack Bounty Hunters 2-0 Ponies WIL Win

The men of the Blackjack crew seemed right at home in the inclement weather and were able to repulse an early defensive surge by the elves to bring home their second win in as many games under the leadership of Captain Steele.

Deadlights Wormwood proved a steady hand as he calmly marched the length of the field for the initial score, while the combination of Danger Jack Dawkins' mighty hits and Blackdog Brutus' trusty boots allowed a hefty man advantage heading into the 2nd half.

After halting the slippery elves in their tracks the second half proved to be smooth sailing and Brutus had no intention of handing off as he rumbled in for the 2nd score.

All in all a decent performance by the Blackjack Bounty Hunters though Captain Steele will push his crew hard in preparation for their next match. Men of the Blackjack, onward to Victory!

Nafia 2 - 0 Slayhouse Disney

The Nafia turned out for the first of four underdog games this morning, and were pleasantly surprised to get a result against their coach's bogey team.

A stabber and a chainsaw turned out for the bones in order to try and get numbers up and dish out a bit of pain, and when the initial Underworld drive broke down, the saw really came into it's own, thinning the ranks of the opposition. When the Sizzler crossed the whitewash in T8 to skill up, the KOs had racked up to the point the game was in the bag bar nonsense.

The second half was luckily tame enough for the Tomb Guardian handoff, and in went Joemanji for 2 and a skill.

Three massively difficult games in a row now where inducement gimmicks will need to all chime in to get results. 'Dangerous' Dave Downes and co. will give it their all, especially as you're going to join the NAF. You Lapdog.

Kungpow brought back some semblance of 'the good old days' of seasons past by rolling the cas dice of 'Epic win' against some slippery Slann to take there season start to 3 wins straight!

Kung Pow! 2 - 1 Leap for Victory

Things did not start auspisciously, with silly Grit forgetting the new saw rules in this LRB and promptly having his prize bull dispatched to the hospital in turn 1 from a saw blitz.
That was the end of the bad luck though and the silly play as Kungpow ground back numeric superiority throughout the half, and after some close shaves at getting the ball the Slann leapt for victory with a score around T6.

With a chance to level the score before half time, Kung Pow went for it, but only succeeded in releaving more Slann of their bodily parts as Moo Rah was successfuly brought down before he could score.

2nd half and more Slann left the pitch seriously injured or dead very quickly, and kung pow knew the win was on with a quick score. Kickoff rolls didnt help with bribes given to both sides and evil Grit making full use of his DP hobbos. A pitch clearance could of been on but I felt a bit guilty already so stalled through for the T8 score to take the 2-1 win and a landmark 50th victory for the team. Cool

Ponies WIL Win 2 - 1 Speak Softly, Big Claws

After a bad thrashing at the hands of some humans, my little ponies came in without three of their players, including two positionals. The start looked bad, with an early BH and the Underworld advancing steadily. But on T5, a 1d attempt opened up, with a POW/Push being RRed into a POW, and the ball being pounced by the elves. A turn later, it ended up in the hands of the sole blitzer on the pitch, who ran it in for a T7 score.

The ponies set-up on defence, but are unable to prevent a pass which equalizes at 1-1 on T16.

The second half sees the ponies receiving, only to be rushed by a Blitz! Fortunately, the kick went deep, giving the ponies a chance to form a screen, and pick the ball up with the blodging blitzer. The Underworld defended aggressively, but failed to find a POW, and a RRed double-skull let the Blitzer into the backfield, where he ran the ball in on T14.

With two more turns to defend, things were tight, but the Underworld lacked a Re-Roll for the blitz with the ballcarrier, which ended in a skull. A tightly fought match which ended in a narrow victory.

Greene Jaguars 1 - 0 Nafia

It had to end eventually, and end it did in a game the Nafia had no rights to be in. But the story was inevitably more twisted than a straight forward 'better team wins game' affair; and the bones of the NAF were treated to hope before cruel failure.

The game started poorly enough, the kicking Khemri losing two on the LOS, one dead, dead. The nine defenders exerted enough pressure for an early score, but a return was dashed with a steady stream of skulls.

On offence, a Fireball brightened the mood, but joy was shortlived. Block 51 finally removed a Human via non magical assistance, but sadly it was not enough. Turn 16 required but two 1/9s, but failure was the option chosen.

Felt really under the kosh all game there, and it was a real shame for the team's first loss to be so dicey. The next two should be auto L's too, so it doesn't look good for a winning first season!

A question for the WIL historians: which pair of teams have faced off the most times in WIL?

Something is Rotting and Pine Valley Cosmonauts completed game 9 in their series today (and surely none of them would have been friendlies since SiR is an ugly team to play). As ever, SiR won the casualty battle. And in keeping with recent series history, nuffle smiled on the good guys and Pine Valley won on the scoreboard. An honourable mention to Edril and the wizard. Inducements for the win whatever the Nafia say.
