Hats off for Ttorvatn. Fine opponent and coach, and man what a game reports he writes. Just did read maybe best game report so far in fumbbl what i have read, what he did from our previous game. Keep good work up, I truly enjoyed reading that (even tho you did hurt my precious wolf ! ) Smile

After your praise I've read that match report too and fully agree with your assessment - awesome!

And the Icedragons are probably out of the competition for the play-offs again. A particularily vile chainsaw cut through the ranks of our favourite (?) team for the whole 1st half, aided by demon magic the technology never failed and no ref to be seen near, far or somewhere in between. So once again outnumbered vastly, the northern heroes, still staggered by the tragic loss of INGIMANN REAVERSON, managed to kill two of the demons in 2nd half, but failed to score, lost the ball and had to suffer another unfortunate 0-2 loss.
At least the opponent coach whinged a bit (not as much as the quite frustrated Icedragons one), tho it remains unclear about what.

We're down to the final round of the season in the Bretonnia Conference, which can only mean one thing: another attempt by me to sum up all the possibilities resting on these final games!

Bretonnia Conference
If the Tuarec Exiles win their game, they've won the conference for a second season in a row. However, a draw is also enough for them as long as their tie-breaker holds up against the Luccini Renegades and the Sylvania Bonegrinders - so they need to make sure they don't take too many casualties in this game! If they lose, they can still make it in to the Challenge Cup as long as the Renegades and the Bonegrinders don't both win, and any of the teams on 4 points don't make up enough tie-breaker points!

The Black Mountain FORC'ers, Luccini Renegades and Sylvania Bonegrinders are all in a similar position. If the FORC'ers win, and maintain their tie-breaker advantage, they've won the conference. Either of the others can also win the conference as long as the FORC'ers win their game, and they can improve their tiebreaker by more than the FORCers do - the Renegades are best placed to achieve this.

Wins for any of them guarantee a place in the Challenge Cup. Draws might be enough for any of the teams to go to the Challenge Cup, depending on how the other two's results go.

Black Chasm Rush and the Laurelorn Foresters are both playing against teams in the above group, and wins would put them in serious contention for the Challenge Cup (especially if the Tuarec Exiles win their game). A draw will not be enough for either of these teams.

The Serpents Coast Scavengers and IFK Marienburg are also both on 4 points, and are due to play each other. A draw would most likely rule both teams out of the Challenge Cup, but the team that won could potentially sneak in, as long as their tie-breaker improves by a lot (so this is more likely for the Scavengers than IFK).

The Nidhoggstad Icedragons and the Uzkulak Marauders are the only two teams that can not make it to the Cup, and are playing for pride at this point.

Giant Killer Award

As we enter the final round, there are four teams that can still win the new Giant Killer Award.

In pole position are the Sylvania Bonegrinders, who are sitting in first place due to a massive win over the bloated FORC'ers. Although they are in first place, their destiny is not in their hands. They need to win or draw their final game against the Foresters, and hope the Scavengers and the Rangers don't win their final games.

The Laurelorn Foresters have done well against larger teams in their rookie season, and are currently in second place. If they can beat the Bonegrinders, they can win the GKA as long as the Scavengers and the Rangers don't win their games.

For the Serpents Coast Scavengers, a win in their final game bags them the Award. A draw will not be enough, but a win will guarantee it.

However, they might have to share it with the Amazon Isle Rangers, who will have to win their fourth round game first to be in with a shout. If they do, they are likely to face the Goldlords in the final round. A win there would either win the Award outright, or put them in joint first with the Scavengers. However, there are a lot of "ifs" involved in that path!

Congratulations to everyone who has pulled off a giant killing this season!

The AI Rangers tied, but not for lack of trying, nor did they miss winning by anything but a thin margin in a hard-fought, no-holds-barred see-saw game. The Turn 16 tying score was odds-against, altho' the Rangers did have to rely on luck with a defensive fireball(!) to turn the tables on a dominant Pirate drive and take the unexpected Turn 14 lead.

It's still a horserace in Albion, and even the two teams yet to play their Round 4, Morgheim Minions and Mousillon Blood Knights, have a chance to surge out of the basement and challenge for the playoffs if one can win their next 2 games.

All the fourth round games have now been finished in the Albion Conference, so it is time for the final round up!

Albion Conference
The New Bretonnia Expatriates will win the conference that has previously been dominated by the dwarves if they can win against the Minions. A draw would also be enough if the Goldlords and the Rangers also draw, but would likely see them pushed in to second if that game ends in a clear victory for either team. A win or a draw also confirms their place in the Challenge Cup - a loss could see them slip in to fourth place if other results go against them!

The Amazon Isle Rangers have had a great rookie season, but face a tough match against the Barak Varr Goldlords in the final round. A win for either of these teams, combined with an Expats loss or draw, would win them the conference. Whoever wins is also guaranteed a place in the Challenge Cup, no matter what else happens. A draw would only be enough if the Pirates fail to beat the Blood Knights, in which case the team with the worst tie-breaker out of the three (likely the Goldlords, unless they can really beat up the Rangers) will be pushed in to 4th. If the Pirates win, a loss for either team will also mean they are out of the Challenge Cup.

The Uzkulak Pirates still have an outside shot at the conference title, if they can win by a large enough margin and hope that the Expats lose, and the Rangers and Goldlords draw. A win would give them a very good chance of sneaking in to the Challenge Cup; a draw might be enough for them, as long as the Rangers - Goldlords game doesn't also end in a draw. A loss would not be good enough.

Grey Mountains Deep Evil are the last team with an outside chance of getting in to the Challenge Cup from the Albion Conference, but they need the following to happen: firstly, they need to win, by a very large margin (to improve their current tiebreaker score of -2 to around +4); they need the Pirates to lose or draw but drop tiebreaker points; and they need the Rangers-Goldlords game to not end in a draw.

None of the Morgheim Minions, Mousillon Blood Knights or Wuppertal Wizards can make it in to the Cup this season, but they will all help decide who does make it!

Finally, the Saphery Titans and the Hendaye Harlequins are playing for pride at the bottom of the table.

Good luck to everyone involved!

In the game vs. the Goldlords the 'zons fought a lost battle almost right from the start. Several players were so frustrated that they refused to return to the pitch after being ko'ed. Despite being offered a nice bloodweiser to encourage them 4 out of 5 and later 3 out of 4 refused to play again. On top of that simple +3 passes and dodges failed numerous times even with rr. Taken together this turned a challenging uphill struggle into a - sorry to say and no insult meant, Uzkulak - boring, very lopsided game.
Some of the players said after the match that they won't play the Goldlords again. This is close to mutiny and won't be accepted, but in secret the coach has some sympathy for them. They probably felt a bit like halflings, but without the assistance of treemen.
The coach will work hard to restore the confidence and fighting spirit the girls showed throughout most of the season. Good luck to the Goldlords in the Challenge Cup - and even better luck to everybody who is up against them Wink

I cant argue with much of that, the ko rolls were especially cruel Razz

And Im afraid in my mind it entirely exonerates the round 1 pick of rookie zons - especially as Meanandugl was able to take points off the two teams that look like being the Goldlords closest rivals.

Final Standings in the Bretonnia Conference

Congratulations to the Black Mountain FORC'ers, who won the Conference. They are looking dominant at the moment, with the both the league's all time top scorer and also the top casualty-maker!

In 2nd and 3rd place respectively were the Luccini Renegades and the Sylvania Bonegrinders. Both teams are going to the first round of the Challenge Cup.

The Bretonnia Inter-Conference Shield team are, in order:
4. Serpents Coast Scavengers
5. Tuarec Exiles
6. Nidhoggstad Icedragons
7. Laurelorn Foresters
8. Black Chasm Rush
9. IFK Marienburg
10. Uzkulak Marauders

Go Team Bretonnia!

In Other News...

The Expansion Divisions have just kicked off. 11 teams (and my goblins...) competing for 3 spots in the main two Conferences next season - the other 8 teams will make up the new Kislev Conference. Good luck to everyone involved in that!

I have no idea how our inter-conference play is supposed to go... but the Chevaliers de Sang have picked up a big win against IFK Marienburg. An unlucky push against the ball carrier on 4d was immediately offset by a lucky interception. It seemed that neither player ever held the ball too securely, with all that Hypno gaze and 5AG wrestle going around.

It was a good match for sure. Looks like Marienburg's coach is moving to bloodier pastures next season though...

In other news, the Blood Knights are making no secret about wanting to move into the Bretonnia conference next season, so that they can play closer to their native soil.

Bretonnia with the Equalizer.

Black Chasm Rush defeats the Wuppertal Wizards 1:0, a match, that has been defined by stone walling defense attempts on both sides.

First half, the Wizards receiving, supported by Helmut Wulff and his Chainsaw 'Cakecutter'. A deep kick costs them a turn or two to get the ball back to the LOS, but on the other hand lets them focus on holding down those damn fast rats. But the rats take blow after blow, almost always unharmed. Therefore the run for the endzone is slowed down extremely. The Wizards on the other hand manage to secure the ball in safe spots due to some clever handovers. The final attempt for a breakthrough is successfully defended, therefore we see no tocuhdowns in the first half.
Helmutt Wulff, who has been on the pitch the whole 8 turns (half of them down but not out), is banned then, although the ref gets his share with a bribe... Not a good sign for half 2.
The rats offense starts heading for one side, the Wizz defends good and stands safely, until those rats decide to change sides (did I mention they are damn fast?). Luckily, the Wizards make their blow on the BC and get him down, but the following "pick up and dodge out of the tackle zone" - attempt by the Wizz' thrower fails epicly in 3 of 4 parts (pick up: success; dodge: fail; injury role: badly hurt; scatter: into rats tackle zone, no Wizz' player at hand... d'oh!). The Black Chasm Rush then manage to go for the touchdown in turn 5 or 6, leaving only 2 or three turns for the Wizz to score. All attempts to get some receiver in position fail, so that the match ends with a huge brawling.

Sum-up: The Wizz with a good start couldn't manage to get the rats off the pitch permanently, Black Chasm Rush with a solid defense in half 1 and a cooler head in half 2 with a deserved win.

The Bretonnia Conference are starting to run away with the Shield - after wins from the Serpents Coast Scavengers and the Nidhoggstad Icedragons they are now 3-1 up. Three games left to play, and one win for Bretonnia will win it!

The following teams have already entered themselves in to the lottery for this season's Royal Pardon: Mousillon Blood Knights, Black Chasm Rush, Serpents Coast Scavengers, Nidhoggstad Icedragons.
