Hi guys

I'm only two games in on FUMBBL but i'm a lifelong Orc player who has just started a Chaos team which has done good so far:

https://www.fumbbl.com/p/team?team_id=770323Chaos team

What seems to be the general consensus in skilling them up? I've given a Beastmen Extra Hands and i'll be looking to make him my main playmaker, another has Dodge.

I guess the Chaos Warriors will go down the usual Block/MB/Tackle/Guard bashy route!

What works for most?

Welcome new dude!

Have you ever accidentally disturbed a hornets nest? Twisted Evil

I could say yes you are dead right.

But it won't take long before someone mentions Mighty blow, claw, piling on. Mr. Green

It really depends on whether you are keeping that minotaur around forever?

Generally speaking you want a dedicated ball carrier, personally I would use the beastman that has dodge for this, give him sure hands next then block then 2 heads, then whatever. However if you get a +ag beastman then switch to using that one as your ball carrier. with the same skills listed before.

On your mino you want claw, then juggernaut unless you roll a double in which case give him block instead. Then pile on then whatever takes your fancy.

Chaos warriors you want block, mighty blow claw, pile on, tackle and guard. Tentacles can be fun too but it's not great, probably a later skill if you want to go that route.take the skills above in different orders on different playes, so you have a tackle one earlier on and a mb, claw po one quickly, some guard support early etc...

Beastmen again you want block mighty blow claw pile on and tackle. That's about it really. Sadly if you have a minotaur around at high tv he will be a hindrance rather than a help so once you have a well developed team you probably want to drop him.

Thanks for the input, much appreciated.

I've decided to get the Minotaur purely because i've never had one before and I want to see how it pans out. I guess like all other big guys he'll take a bit of babysitting but hey ho, dems the rules!

The first two starting high elf teams I beat didn't really prove to hard. Horns really made the difference on a couple of key plays. The Slaan team were really good though, I've never played one before and they're really hard to defend against.

Last turn TD for the draw!

Yeah, rookie chaos can be tough to use. I don't like most big guys but I think the mino on low tv chaos is a big help. But once your team develops he might not be so great. But the important thing is if you enjoy having a mino in your team then keep him Smile also don't be suprised if you go on a bad losing streak with chaos their av isn't great and they start with block so you will have games where you roll lots of both downs and lose lots of players so don't be disheartened if you do. It may feel like the dice gods have it in for you. But such is the life of low TV chaos Smile

To be fair, it is a [R]anked division team. People will probably avoid you like the plaugue if you really do take heaps of CPOMB. They'll probably call you nasty names too. Wink

Really you should just play humans! Wink

Don't chaos minotaurs need a double for claw? It seems they don't! Hmm I missed that. I could see tentacles as really great there too. Neat.

/me considers making a Chaos team! (Not a lamo claw POMB one I promise!)

You named your team after famous graphics wizard and coach on this site WhatBall Surprised

(impressive that the team name was available really)

It's good that you have experience with Orcs, because until the mid-high TV range, chaos play very similarly orcs, just slightly worse. Keep in mind that most of the mutations other than claw are not good choices, with some exceptions (Tentacles on a +ST chaos warrior, Prehensile Tail on a marking specialist, Two Heads on a ballcarrier, etc). One of the pitfalls that new Chaos coaches tend to fall into is over-assigning mutations. The biggest weakness of Chaos is a lack of early starting skills, so you are best served ignoring mutations, +MA, or doubles until you have block on a number of players. Until you have an obvious choice for a ballcarrier, it's a good idea to carry the ball with your lowest SPP chaos warrior.

Your big early strength is universal horns on the beastmen. I like to take advantage of this by giving my first beastman wrestle and tackle. Chaos can make good use of a sweeper to handle any break-aways or sack the ballcarrier once you've broken the cage. You will notice that two heads on this guy was the first time I took a mutation other than claw. He's a good player and I recommend building him.

Chaos is a big challenge on fumbbl. You are playing a sub-optimal team until you have your heavy bash online, and when that finally does happen, you won't see a lot of games. Non-bash chaos examples do exist, but they are for advanced players and generally require a lot of picking to do well with. I had some success with my ranked chaos team by focusing on skilling chaos warriors and avoiding using the beastmen for much. A more balanced approach can also work, but I focused on making the warriors into stars, and that worked for me.

A Wrackle beast is OK, but only at low TV or I guess in Ranked if you are never going to take C-POMB (or never get a game if you do).
I think carrying with a CW at low TV is terrible advices - by all means hand off to them when possible but the last thing you want to do is take your big hitters away from the fight.

Fire Gerald Davies. And anyone else who suffers a permanent injury.

I'd disagree there. I'm mediocre at best, but my newest R Chaos team has a winning record, and I try not to be too picky. They did have one CPOMB player for a brief spell, but largely rely on taking every stat and double that they've rolled, though to be fair, they have rolled a lot of AG/STs. They do also have a wrackle/2 heads goat, and yeah, he is useful.
