New season coming shortly - we'll need to recruit a few more coaches to join the league before we can start, though! If you haven't already responded to the Roll Call PM, please do so!

Season V Records

A series of seasonal records were smashed in Season V, with two players dominating most of the records.

The feared Siemon of the Uzkulak Pirates was the Star Player, earning the most SPP in a single season out of any player in OWCC history (incidentally, taking him above Urdithane to make him the OWCC's biggest ever star). He also unsurprisingly broke the record for Most Casualties, narrowly beating the previous record set by an orc in Season II.

On the baller side, Timber Jonas II of the Nilfheim Lumberjacks scored the most touchdowns and rushed the most distance, setting seasonal records for both.

The final seasonal record to be broken was by the Dishonoured Officer of the New Bretonnia Expatriates, who carried out the most blocks (beating the previous record by almost 20 blocks).

Although they didn't break any single season records, congratulations still go to Camring (Gaen Vale Starlights) for throwing the furthest this season, and for completing the joint most passes with Saeraer (Tor Elyr Hurricanes).

A bunch of players all tied for the most fouls record, but frankly it was such a poor amount (only 5 fouls all season!) that it is hardly worth mentioning!

After playing their second friendly in the interseasonal, the Lumberjacks recruit another player for the start of the next season, finally allowing them to no longer recruit one or multiple journeymen for their games.

On another note, it's rumored that the 'jacks headcoach submitted his draft picks for the season 6 Albion conference to the league's commish only moments ago. Season 6 should be nigh!

The draft is almost done - the Kislev Champions are just deliberating over which conference to join, and then those with Royal Pardons will be contacted. We should be set to start by the middle of the week.

Should be an easy choice: Albion all the way! Wink

The draft hall has cleared out, the scrambling to use Royal Pardons has died down, and the Conferences for Season VI are settled. Here is how the draft went down:

Round 1
New Bretonnia Expatriates automatically stay in Albion
Nidhoggstad Icedragons automatically stay in Bretonnia

4 of the 16 teams involved in the draft were automatically assigned Conferences - the reigning champions of each Conference, the Lumberjacks and the Scavengers, along with their Norse and Lizardmen buddies, the Icedragons and the Expats.

Round 2
Black Chasm Rush stay in Albion
Dark Lands Predators stay in Bretonnia
Frostheim United automatically transferred to Albion

The dubious honour of the first team to be drafted this season goes to the Black Chasm Rush, who took two brutal beatings from the Lumberjacks last season and are in sorry shape. The Lumberjacks were clearly keen to get another shot at the poor rats! Next, the Dark Lands Predators were confirmed for the Bretonnia Conference for another season, which forced Frostheim United to move into the Albion Conference.

Round 3
Loreni Jadefire drafted to Albion
Wasteland Vagabonds transferred to Bretonnia

Loreni Jadefire finished second in the Kislev Conference last season, and were promoted automatically as a result. They also went on to win the Kislev Plate, so have a Royal Pardon in their pocket, but they were initially drafted to Albion. Meanwhile, the Wasteland Vagabonds were transferred across to Bretonnia.

Round 4
Scalded Delta Dogz drafted to Albion
Pillars of Nagash transferred to Bretonnia

Another new team, the Scalded Delta Dogz, were drafted into the Albion Conference. They weren't in Kislev last season, but they were the biggest of the new batch of teams coming through, so were given a chance in the big leagues. The Pillars of Nagash were transferred over to Bretonnia from Albion, after having a good season last year.

Round 5
Uzkulak Pirates transferred to Albion
Massif Orcal Mo'rodaz drafted to Bretonnia

This time last season, the dreaded Pirates were doing the drafting for the Bretonnia Conference. This season, they were one of the last teams to go, and were transferred across to Albion. After that, the Scavengers drafted in one of the other Kislev teams, the Massif Orcal Mo'rodaz (who came up through the playoffs).

Round 6
Dark Crag Cripplers choose Albion
Diseased Wasters drafted to Bretonnia
Barak Varr Goldlords stay in Bretonnia

At this point in the draft, the Kislev Champions, the Dark Crag Cripplers, entered the fray, choosing to join the Albion Conference. This forced the Diseased Wasters (another Kislev Playoff team) and the returning Barak Varr Goldlords to round out the Bretonnia Conference.

Royal Pardons
Loreni Jadefire switch to Bretonnia
Barak Varr Goldlords switch to Albion

After the draft was finished, Kislev Plate holders Loreni Jadefire decided they preferred the look of the Bretonnia Conference, and so pulled a few strings to make the switch. In their place, they decided to move the Barak Varr Goldlords over to Albion, where they probably feel more comfortable.

We're now just waiting for one more team which is in the process of being created for the Kislev Conference, then we'll be ready to start the next season.

What do you think about the draft? Will the Serpents Coast Scavengers be the first team to win the Bretonnia Conference twice? Will one of the two established Albion names - Barak Varr Goldlords and New Bretonnia Expatriates - be able to win an historic third Albion title?

Excellent, the draft turned out exactly as I hoped it would, lots of good teams, but not too bashy. There was only one minor hitch with the Loreni jumping ship and sailing off to Bretonnia. I wonder why they decided to use the pardon after I laid out such a nice conference for them.

I've updated the OWCC Rankings for the end of Season V, too.

(Cue more complaining from Smeat as the Black Chasm Rush overtook them Wink Laughing)

I do apologise. It's nothing personal Very Happy. At the time, the switch seemed to let me get into a less bashy conference but I'm not sure I picked right!

Glad to be back in Albion as the Bretonnia conference didn't seem to agree with the Goldlords. See you all on the pitch!

No predictions from me (they always go badly), but my Match to Watch (tm) of this round is the Nilfheim Lumberjacks vs the Uzkulak Pirates.

The Lumberjacks look buff at the moment, while the Pirates still contain quite a few of the top players in the league. This game could define whether the Lumberjacks can overtake the Pirates as the team to fear in the OWCC. And if nothing else, it is always good to watch a Pirates game - I wouldn't want to miss the death of Siemon!

Let us know when you've got it scheduled, I think it is going to be the match to spec of the first round.

The round one match to watch is definately the
Barak Varr Goldlords vs the New Bretonnia Expatriates
Two of Albion's powerhouses, both teams winning the conference twice, and also two of the largest teams in the league. Will the strength of the Expat's Sauri and the speed and agility of the skinks prove victorious or will the Guard and mb of the dwarves and their two st4 blodgers see them through? A fun match for both invested and neutral spectators alike, as it is likely to involve a lot of blood.

Prediction: Goldlords take this game 2-1 due to attrition of the mere 11 lizards and lack of tackle to take down the st4 dwarf blodgers.

In the Bretonnia conference the match to watch is:
Nidhoggstad Icedragons vs Massif Orcal Mo'rodaz
The Icedragons are looking dangerous this season, if they can beat their way past the orcs in the first round, they might take it all the way! *waves Icedragons pennant*

Prediction: Icedragons smash the Mo'rodaz and win 1-0 after a quick score and two drives of grinding the orc drive to a halt and over the sidelines.

Yeah, that should be a good one too. Two of the OWCC Originals (not many of us left these days!) facing off against each other.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the Expats vs the Pirates. Now that's a proper grudge match with some real heat!

This game will have a predictous nature (at least for MOM) where to look at this season. But we are confident to beat them with their own weapons: Finest bash. And we think that we'll have the sympathies: not many teams are bashier then the dragons.
After all, general consensus may be: only a dead player is a good player (may it be an orc or a north one).

My long run prediction: the winner will be decided by cas, not by touchdowns.
