Black Chasm Rush 1-1 Frostheim United

The Rush managed to scrape a draw in their first game of what looks like being a long season.

In the first half, the BCR drove down the field, switching sides to put the slow dwarves on the wrong foot, before scoring about three quarters through the half. This potentially gave Frostheim time to equalise before halftime, but after a bull dropped the pick-up, the crowd helped the Rush out by throwing the ball into the path of a gutter runner, who didn't think twice before running it towards the FU endzone. Unfortunately, their minotaur put a stop to that, and although we had a second chance, we couldn't pick the ball up and dodge away to score in the dying seconds.

The second half started badly, and it quickly went downhill, as casualties began to pile up. While Frostheim's bull sauntered down the field, their dwarves began hunting for the remaining rats. It got to the point where the rats accepted the inevitable and began to run away, but not fast enough - all but two were hunted down and sent to the stands. The final couple wisely stayed down, but even that wasn't enough, as the evil dwarves began crowding round to put the boot in.

Finally, the bull decided to cross the goal line, to make it 1-1.

There was just enough time for Skydd to come out and try his magic right at the death, and he almost made it, but he was tripped as he tried to sneak past a hobgoblin, and the game ended 1-1.

Next up: more dwarves, and a long, long season.

Dark Crag Cripplers 0-1 Nilfheim Lumberjacks

Smothering defence, two man advantage at the half, stroll in for the easy stall. Elves fail to score even a single spp. Well played BlueDevil.

Uzkulak Pirates 2 - 0 Scalded Delta Dogz

The troll got us off to a bad start, prematurely ending the opening turn and allowing the Dogz to overrun the offense. Tomas Bot got the ball in his hands but soon was knocked down. However the dark elf team got it back and ran downfield whilst the Pirates held the overcommitted necromantics at the halfway line.

Hack 'en Slash took to the field for the 2nd half but his blunt chainsaw was not doing the damage Coach Demon had hoped for. Siemon, on the other hand, was proving lethal as Beta was put down and Alpha knocked out. Without the wolves, the Dogz offense fell apart and soon the ball was back with Xesediya to score her 2nd to earn another skill.

Dark Crag Cripplers 2-1 Black Chasm Rush

The Rush were missing a few key players and took advantage of salary cap room to recruit a mouse armed with a vicious looking dagger, (which in reality turned out to be one of those stunt knives with the retractable blade.)
The Rush also had the help of the crowd who stormed the initial kick-off leaving only four elves standing to field the ball. After that though, it was all Nuffle. With his assistance the Crag dug their way out of this rather deep early hole and made their way upfield. With their coach lacking the skills required to stall they left the team with the ma10 sure/big hands mouse two turns to score a one turn equaliser.
Nuffle declared it was not to be though. 1-0 to the Elves at half-time.
Shortly after play resumed the lights in the stadium went out and a 23 hour break was enforced. Nuffle had not forgotten the game though, and as soon as it began served up a spoonful of ones for the mice to gnaw on. The Elves recovered the ball and scored again. The first time in six games that they had scored more than once. They, and their coach, were so amazed they left the field wide open for a one-turner and only the grace of Nuffle preventing a "blitz" or "riot" kick-off stopped the mice from an equaliser.
2-1 to the elves although the true winner was He from Whom all blessings come as the elves were comprehensively out-coached and deserved to lose.
Good news was, no casualties on either side, so whomever gets the Rush next will feel the power of two lots of ma10 and an angry looking rat ogre.
Best of luck gjopie, you was robbed.

Lumberjacks lose again, they now find themselves sharing the bottom of the rankings with the Rush, time to unload some of the frustration with a classic Jacks vs Rush bashfest? Wink

That could, indeed, be ugly.

Ooh - and win or lose against the Pirates*, the Expats were girding their loins for the 'Jacks next (having played everyone else currently in the top 4).
(* Expats-Pirates game scheduled for just over 24 hours from this post)

Now, it's Expats v. either the Dogs* or Cripplers, depending on the exact outcome* of the 'Lords-Dogs game.
(* It's the Dogs unless they lose and drop below the Cripplers in tie-breaker points (Dogs currently hold a thin 1 pt lead).)

The pillars won 1-0 against the predator.

First half the Pillars received, got the ball and the tomb guardian opened a safe-enough way for the ball the carrier to run through and leave the bulls behind. Outrunning the blockers was the easy part Smile TD turn 6.
Having 3 turns to tie in the first half the bulls started to run toward the TD while the gobo was supposed to pick up the ball and tranfert it. Helped by a lucky kick and a quite good control of the bulls it didn't happen.

Second half the Predators tried to outrun the khemris by going from one side to another while the blocker were shredding the skelies. The line of TG stood firm and the ball carrier couldn't go around and desesperatly passed the ball to the empty field to allow a run from the bulls. After surronding the runing bull the Khemris where first on target and secured the ball. The score remained.

In a predictably brutal game, the Pirates and Expats ended in a 1:1 tie.

Both teams scored in the first half, first the Expats with a defensive steal and score to end Turn 4, but then the Pirates came back to equalize with a 4-Turn score of their own. The Turn 8 Expats OTS attempt was disrupted by a Blitz! result, and the half ended 1:1.

Receiving 2nd half with almost a full team, the Expats had ample opportunity to score in the 2nd half, but Turn 6, with 2 of their Sauri out BH'd, they chose to stall "just one more turn" - and failed both the "Protect the Ball" rule and a no-skill Saurus block (Both-Down), leaving the ballcarrier naked to the blitz, and that's how it ended.

The Expats did soften up the Pirates a bit for their next opponent, MNG'ing the skaven Wrestler and a Guard, and RIP'ing their Leader, while themselves dodging the Perm-bullet with only 4 BH'd.

Altho' that leaves both the Expats and Pirates tied for the lead in Albion in points, the Pirates dominate the Tie-Breaker with a 14:5 Casualty difference and 7.5 total tie-breaker points, both league-leaders atm.

In Albion Round 4 it's Pirates v. Frost U next, and Expats v. Delta Dogs. Cripplers go up against the Goldlords, and that leaves the 'Jacks and Rush to battle out of the cellar.

And the Expats are now the strongest team in the whole league (TV-wise)! True and fearsome power or just an overblown balloon ready to blow up? We´ll know by the end of the season! Smile

And widely unnoticed by the public, but heavily mourned by those who knew, season one veteran, Ragnar Kharnathsblut, got his mighty back damaged by a very very rough and vile skink foul in the game against the Scavengers. He played 32 games for the Icedragons and won a few of those by himself alone. His deeds on the field of honor will forever be remembered and countless virgins in Norsca will name their firstborn after him.

As far as we know, his future plans will be to open a pub named Valhell close to a Bloodbowl arena in Norsca, where the maidens, mead and meat will be as plenty as one can wish.

Still kicking myself for not winning that game - had it to win, totally boned an easy Turn 6 play that would have all but sealed the deal, forcing the Pirates to make their own 2-turn score w/ no RR for the tie.

Oh well... Rolling Eyes Embarassed

As usual, the Kislev Conference has reached their final round before the others (and one game has already been played!), so it is long past time for the start of our Final Round Preview season...

Kislev Conference

At the top of the table, the Malice of Karond Kar are in the driving seat. They are already guaranteed promotion, and a draw in their final game is enough to win them the title. A loss might be ok, as long as other results go their way.

The key result is the second placed Turov's Infected. If they win, and the Malice lose, then their superior tie-breaker position means they will take the title. In fact, due to their tie-breaker points (the second highest in any division), a draw would probably be enough to secure promotion for them. A loss could see them drop to 5th place, and just miss out on promotion this season.

The Arkhan Faraohs have already played their final game, and are relying on other results to go their way to keep them in the promotion places. They need the Malice and the Infected to both win their games, and they will finish in 4th place - just scraping in.

Athel Loren BBoDT are in a tight spot, but still have their fate in their own hands. A win or a draw in their final game would guarantee promotion (and with a truly massive win, they could still technically even win the title), but a loss would definitely see them drop out of the promotion places, with their opponents taking their place.

There are three teams just outside the promotion spots, all with an opportunity to make it during the final round: Mork's Worshippers, Palinam Diadochi, and Elves of Albion. For them it is simple: a win would be enough to get promoted, while a draw would almost certainly not be enough. The only exception is the Worshippers, for whom a draw might be ok; as long as Palinam Diadochi lose their game.

And finally, honourable mention to Anapios who fought bravely as goblins but finished in last place this season.

Howie Duyn here, fans, your OWCC sportscaster bringing you the latest as the season winds down...

Albion Conference:

Infamous OWCC Killer Siemon Permanently Injured!

What many teams have tried to do, and failed, game after game, season after season, was finally achieved... by... Siemon himself!

In a standings-changing loss against the Goldlords, the dreaded ClawPomber attempted a double-dodge through TZ with no RR available (toward the safety of behind his lines) after one of his signature frenzy-blitzes failed to take down a Tackling dwarf.

An original -MA was Apo'd to -Ag, which was more acceptable to the coaching staff. The Apo has not been available for comment, nor has he been sighted since immediately after the match.

This was only one of a string of failures in that game to haunt the Pirates, including another Marauder killed on a failed dodge (and took a previous MVP with him), 2 more marauders MNG (both rookies), a Troll BH'd Turn 5. numerous "Both Down" against the Block-spam dwarves (many by non-Blockers), and Siemon previously double-skulling himself into the KO box just after a Turn 5 failed wizard that might easily have turned the tide of the 1-0 game.

Besides the long-term League implications, this is all particularly good news to both whoever the Pirates face in Round 5* (and whoever the Pirates might face after that, should they hold on make the playoffs), but also to the #4 & 5 teams*, as the door is now open to the #3 slot.

(* 'Jacks, FU, and 'Dogs all possible, exact order tbd, pending the result of the Round 4 Frost U. v. 'Dogs game)

The Pirates' loss puts the Expats currently in 1st by 1 point and in control of their own fate, facing the Lumberjacks next. With the Ex-Pats deeply behind in tie-breaker points, it's a must-win for both teams, to guarantee the Expats post-season (and the Division title) and for any post-season chance for the 'Jacks.

Currently mid-pack, should they beat the ExPats Round 5, the Lumberjacks will still be 1 pt behind them and well behind several others in tie-breaker points - they want Frost U to lose the upcoming Round 4 game against the 'Dogs to have any real shot at post-season, and even then the favored teams have to lose round 5.

Currently 1 pt back in 2nd, the Goldlords face Frost U (unless Dogs win that Rd 4 match, tbd). And with one Round 4 game to be played, 3rd place is now up for grabs before Round 5...

A Frost U win puts them in a close tie-breaker for 3rd with the Pirates, but even should they lose Round 4, FU is not mathematically out of the post-season (but then would needs to see the ExPats win and both the other current leaders lose, plus some small tie-breaker help, to squeak in at the 12th hour). Though the 'Dogs are are (all but?) out of it, they can still boast spoiler rights should they beat Frost U and/or the crippled Pirates.

In Bretonnia news, the #2 Pillars of Nagash faced the #1 Wasteland Vagabonds, wanting badly to create a 2-way tie for first place (and a 5-way race for post-season!). The Pillars were forced to answer a 1st half Defensive lead by the 'Vags, and they answered the call with an outstanding defensive effort (especially for Khemri), to wow the crowd by stopping the Vag's drive (more than once!), stealing the ball and (after losing a Turn to a failed Ag 2 pickup) moving it 20(!) yards in 3 Turns for the 1-1 defensive tie!

When the dust had settled, the Pillars had lost an MVP rookie skel -Ag, but the #1 Vags had a 46 spp Blackle/MB Beastman suffer -Ag/MNG (team status pending). The tie game only pushed both teams up a bit (and let other teams erase any gap), the Pillars among the top teams but still needing to scramble Round 5 for a post-season spot, and the Vag's now guaranteed at least a solid lead going in to Round 5.

The Diseased Wasters and Nidhoggstad Icedragons have yet to play their Round 4 match, and, with both currently being only 1 pt behind the #2 Pillars with their game tbd, a winner there* would pass the Pillars and sit only 1 point behind the Vags, with the other still within striking range for the post-season.

(* Looking at their record and the two teams on paper, this sportscaster predicts... an injury-filled match (no surprise), with the Dragons for the (Pyrrhic?) win. The MB-spam Nurglers are scary for the AV 7 Norse but unreliable, and their rotters injury-prone themselves. If early casualties don't hand the game to the Wasters, the superior skills of the Norse roster should prevail.)

Win, lose or draw, whatever's left of the Icedragons face the Vagabonds in round 5, but with 2 games to be played and all teams (but one) within striking range of a 4th position tie going in to the final game, the other matchups are still up in the air, and to be decided on the pitch.
