Athel Loren vs the Pillars of Nagash 0:1. Another frustrating game for the woodies, another nail in the coffin of coach Meanandugl's OWCC career.

In a very dicey match the Lumberjacks elf their way past Frostheim U. 2-1

Frostheim U. received and started by bashing the norsemen relentlessly off the pitch, as the numbers dwindled they moved the ball forward but allowed some shots on the ballcarrier. When things got really desperate in turn 6, with only 4 norsemen on the field, Runaway Aaron III takes matters into his own hands, dodging through the enemy lines, downing the ballcarrier unassisted and picking up the ball. The next turn leaves him surrounded but unharmed. He dodges out past multiple enemies and punts the ball deep to prevent the Frostheim score. He survives a vicious blitz from Morg and dodges away again to run in the score.
The Lumberjacks go for a fast 2-0 score in the 2nd half and things look well as by now we're playing 10v10 again. But not for long, as the onslaught commences again. A relatively quick score by the journeyman leaves us all to play for and plenty of time to do so. Down on numbers again the norsemen try for another fast score but a failed dodge gives the Chaos dwarves a chance to equalise. The bullcentaur manages to pick up the ball and the retaliating blitz attempt is cut short on the first go for it. In turn 15 however the BC snakes a gfi leaving no players in range of scoring, the 'who knows maybe it might work'-longbombattempt fails, again on the first gfi.

The awesome armor/injury dice were thus cancelled out by the luck on my completely silly 'what the heck, might as well try something'-plays. And I still can't believe I came out of this game with a win after the first 5 turns of the half.

Ah... playing the GoldLords is like running your head repeatedly into a stonewall while accidently having a pitbull chewing at your arm. I mainly suceeded at two Things in this game, making my own armour and injury rolls (no permanent damage and only two badly hurt) and blitzing his ballcarriers. Thus, I got lucky in the first half and could blitz his ballcarrier after a pushback that pushed my krox with breaktackle into the GoldLords backfield. Then Warrior picked up the ball and ran it in, after the GoldLords blitz on him failed. Had too few players on the field to hold it together in the second half, and the Gold Lords finally got the equalizer. At that point, I had only 5 players against the GoldLords 11. Ended 1-1 which was a lucky result for me, and both teams probably still has a shot at the finals.

Bretonnia are first to finish their penultimate round, which means it is officially time for the final round guidance from the league...

Bretonnia Conference

Nobody is quite guaranteed a cup place yet, but the Nilfheim Lumberjacks look safest. Sitting at the top of the table, they just need a draw in their final game to win the conference. However, a loss could see their opponents overtake them, and they'd drop into at least 2nd place (and maybe further) - other results would need to go their way, especially as their tiebreaker isn't that impressive.

Their opponents are the Scalded Delta Dogz, who can win the league if they win their game and any of the other teams currently on 5 points don't win and improve their tie-breaker score by enough. A win would basically guarantee a cup place, due to their tie-breaker compared to the Lumberjacks. A loss would almost certainly see them drop out of the cup places, on the other hand. A draw would be a risky middle ground, but this is probably the least certain season we've ever had in Bretonnia, so who can say?

Frostheim United and the Elves of Albion play each other, and are currently sitting in 3rd and 4th place. Frostheim has the slight advantage in tie-breaker, which will play a part in the case of a draw. Both can potentially win the league with a win, a Lumberjacks loss, and a serious improvement in tie-breaker points. However, they also both need to win to stand a serious chance of a cup spot. A loss would guarantee that they'd be taking part in the Shield, while a draw might not be enough for either of them.

The newly promoted Gotland Gorers are the final 5 point team, but they are on the outside looking in, sitting in 5th place, with a tie-breaker score of 0. They can win the league, but it is unlikely, so let's forget it. To get into the cup, they need to win and hope the Lumberjacks also win, or that the Dogz win but the Frostheim - Elves game ends in a draw; or they could draw, and hope the Lumberjacks win and Malice can't improve their tie-breaker score by too much. A loss seals the deal.

Their opponents are Turov's Infected, who can sneak in with a miracle. They need to win against the unbeaten Gorers, then hope the Lumberjacks win and that the Frostheim - Elves game doesn't end in a draw. In that scenario, they would probably sneak into the final cup place. Anything else wouldn't be good enough.

Malice of Karond Kar can also sneak in, but they have such a poor tie-breaker score it looks unlikely. They are also the first team that should be looking over their shoulders! So, to get into the cup, they need to win (against the often absent Starlights), improve their tie-breaker score by a lot, hope the Lumberjacks win (a lot of teams will be rooting for them!), United and Albion don't draw, but the Gorers and Infected do. Alternatively, if they were to lose to the Starlights, while the Vagabonds managed a draw or a win, they'd drop into 9th place and the relegation playoffs. They are safe from automatic relegation, however.

The Wasteland Vagabonds can't make it into the cup, but can still avoid relegation if they draw or win their final game. A loss, combined with a Malice loss, would see them drop into 9th place (they are also safe from automatic relegation).

The Gaen Vale Starlights have been slightly absent all season (in fact, they haven't actually played a game yet), and yet they still have a chance to avoid relegation. A win in their final game would probably be enough to guarantee safety, although a draw could also work if the Vagabonds lost by enough to close the tie-breaker gap. A loss might see them drop into 10th, but it is unlikely, bearing in mind the tie-breaker difference.

Finally, the Arkhan Faraohs really do need a miracle to turn things around. First of all, they absolutely need to win to have any chance of avoiding automatic relegation. They also need the Starlights to lose, and to close a 6.5 point tie-breaker gap. All possible, but it is going to need plenty of touchdowns and casualties.

Stay tuned for the Albion round up, once they've finally got their games played...

It's going to be a fun final round indeed! I'll give most of you another reason to cheer the Lumberjacks on: we're on the verge of catching up with the Goldlords! Very Happy

Albion now join Bretonnia in finishing Round 4, which means we can take a look at the final round possibilities. They are very similar to the Bretonnian setup!

Albion Conference

Again, nobody is yet guaranteed a cup spot, but the New Bretonnia Expatriates are in pole position with 7 points. A win or a draw wins them the conference and a bye into the second round. However, if they lose, they could drop out of the cup places altogether (and they would almost certainly lose 1st place, unless a very unlikely casualty situation arose). If any team is in yet, though, it is the Expats, as they would need some of the teams below them to improve their tie-breaker score by a lot.

They are facing the Serpents Coast Scavengers in an all-lizard affair. They can win the conference with a win, although they'll also be hoping that the Goldlords don't win by too much. Win and they are (basically) in, and a tie makes things difficult to predict. They can survive a loss, but they'd need all other results to go their way, which is probably unlikely.

The 3rd placed Barak Varr Goldlords are facing the 5th placed Athel Loren BBoDT in their final league game. Both are on 5 points, but the Goldlords' tie-breaker score is considerably better. The Goldlords have a reasonable chance of winning the league still, if they can win by a large margin and hope that the Expats lose by a small one. For Athel Loren, their tie-breaker makes the prospect unlikely (but technically still possible). For both teams, a win will put them in strong contention for a cup spot, and it would be guaranteed if the Expats can win (or draw) their final game. A tie or a loss will probably not be enough to clinch a place.

In between them are Lahmia Undead United, also on 5 points. Like Athel Loren, they are technically in the running for winning the league, but it seems unlikely, given their negative tie-breaker score (but just for completeness, they would need to win by a large margin, hope the Expats lose by a small amount, and that the Goldlords - BBoDT game ends as a draw). They should instead be concerned with getting into the Cup, which they can do with a win, combined with an Expats win/draw, or an Expats loss and a Goldlords/BBoDT draw. A draw could be enough for them if the Expats win, there is a clear winner in the 3rd vs 5th game, and Palinam Diadochi lose. A loss would definitely not be enough for them.

Next up are their opponents, the Uzkulak Pirates. For them, it is simple. They need to win to have any hope of qualifying. They also need the Expats to win (any result in the Goldlords-BBoDT game would probably be ok). A draw would see them safely mid-table. A loss could, in extreme circumstances, see them drop into the relegation playoffs, but thanks to tie-breaker scores it is unlikely.

The first team that has to seriously think about the "R" word is Palinam Diadochi. They could also sneak a spot in the Cup with a string of results: a big win to start, followed by an Expats win, an Athel Loren win, and a United - Pirates draw (there are other combinations, but this is the easiest I think). Like the Pirates, they are safe with a draw. However, if they lose, and the Wasters draw or win, they will drop to 9th, and into the relegation playoffs! Exciting stuff...

Ironically, the Diseased Wasters may prefer Diadochi to win, as that would guarantee them safety. A draw or a win in their own game would also guarantee at least an 8th place finish and a place in the Shield. If they were to lose, and Diadochi also lost, they would fall to 9th and into the relegation playoff spot.

That spot is currently occupied by the Pillars of Nagash, who are facing Diadochi. They can pretty much guarantee their own safety by winning. A draw would almost certainly not be enough, but would keep them safe from the (very) outside chance of automatic relegation. If they were to lose, and the Wasters also lost (by a lot), they could finish in last place.

Finally, the Dark Lands Predators need a big win in their final game, combined with a big loss for the Pillars, to claw their way out of automatic relegation and into the relegation playoffs. Anything else, and they are down.

Best of luck to all the teams involved!

As we head into the final round, there are also three teams still in the running for the...

Giant Killer Award

In top spot at the moment are Lahmia Undead United, with 590 points. However, their final game is against a smaller team than them, so this is their highest possible finish. This makes them the benchmark that others below them have to beat.

In hot pursuit are Athel Loren BBoDT, with only 425 points - but they are up against the behemoths from Barak Varr, so there are plenty of points up for grab. The exact figure isn't clear yet, as both teams still need to ready themselves, but it is safe to say that a win would grab them the award.

However, a draw would allow the third team, the Gotland Gorers, a chance at taking the award home. 20 points behind Athel Loren at the moment, but with half the potential points on offer in the final game, a Gorers win and a BBoDT draw would see them finishing on very similar points, and depending on exact TV difference in the BBoDT game, could go either way. However, if Athel Loren lose, then the Gorers only need to win or draw to win the Giant Killer Award.

Nice one Lumberjacks - that draw, combined with the Gorers win yesterday, means that we are into the Cup in their first season in the main conferences! Get in!

Tyvm, the game against the Delta Dogs was a very interesting one where the sweltering heat and funky dicerolls on both sides played a large role. We're quite happy with the draw in the end and with our third conference win. Let's see if the Lumberjacks can continue their 13 game undefeated streak and claim the Cup too.

Gz on getting there in your first season gjopie, nicely done!

Final Standings in the Albion Conference

Congratulations to the New Bretonnia Expatriates for winning their third Conference title. They get a bye into the second round of the Cup - can they win their first one this season?

In 2nd and 3rd place respectively were the Barak Varr Goldlords and Lahmia Undead United, who will join the Expats in the Cup. The Goldlords are the most decorated team in the League, but they need a third win to secure their dominance over the upstart Lumberjacks. LUU were last season's runners up in the Cup.

The Albion Inter-Conference Shield team are, in order:
4. Palinam Diadochi
5. Serpents Coast Scavengers
6. Diseased Wasters
7. Athel Loren BBoDT
8. Uzkulak Pirates (Assuming Chainsaw reappears!)

The Pillars of Nagash will be playing in the relegation playoffs for the second season in a row, while the Dark Lands Predators are automatically relegated and will feature in exhibition playoffs with the winners of the Kislev Conferences. (All relegations are pending decisions on teams staying/leaving the league)

Final Standings in the Bretonnia Conference

In Bretonnia, the Nilfheim Lumberjacks also won their third Conference title, so congratulations to them. They tie the Goldlords now for achievements within the League.

In 2nd and 3rd place respectively were the Gotland Gorers and Scalded Delta Dogz, neither of which have ever been in the Cup before. Good luck to both of them!

The Bretonnia Inter-Conference Shield team are, in order:
4. Frostheim United
5. Elves of Albion
6. Malice of Karond Kar
7. Wasteland Vagabonds
8. Turov's Infected

The Arkhan Faraohs will make the relegation playoffs a Khemri-dominated affair, while the Gaen Vale Starlights are automatically relegated (and out of the league due to missed fixtures).

Note: If Chainsaw doesn't come back, we will move everyone in Albion up a spot (the Pillars of Nagash will take the ICS place, and the Predators will enter the playoffs), and we will sort something out for the exhibition playoffs.

Good question - currently @ 11 players w/ one of my better Sauri out MNG after the bye - if we can win that we should(?) have a full roster again, so we'll just have to see how the next game goes short-handed. :/
