This forum thread is for anything relating to Season 68 of the SWL.

Links:HouseKeeping:
  • Divisional Structure
    1 Premier, 4 Conferences, 1 Regionals
  • Season Commencement
First round will begin on Monday 27th March with a deadline of 10th April.
  • Axing
PM to the swladmin FUMBBL account by 10pm Monday SWL (Sydney) time if your game has not yet been played. Check out the Guide for more information or check with someone else in chat. Refer to post below for more details about expectations. This is also the method for advising of parking at the end of a season.
  • General
Please be aware that we rely on individual coaches to be active in checking this forum, arranging games against opponents (especially if not on east coast of Australia) and in communicating with Admins. The responsibility is on the coach to enquire, not the Admins to inform. Please feel free to ask any questions, anytime.
  • Trial of Blood
Please be aware that the Trial of Blood is not a chance for teams to grow at the expense of competitive play. Play to win and keep the integrity of the SWL intact. If admins deem that a coach is not abiding by this then the team may have to retrial.

Rules Changes and News for Season 68:

  • There have been some changes to the rules FUMBBL-wide since last season. Many of these are currently confined to Ranked and Blackbox divisions, however some also affect League and thus, SWL.
    - Wizards: Wizards are currently disabled on FUMBBL. This means they cannot be induced.
    - MVP: MVP is now randomly allocated to three coach-chosen players by a d3 roll.
  • At this stage, Expensive Mistakes and the new Petty Cash rules have NOT been implemented in League.
  • Piling On has been removed from the common ruleset used by non-custom leagues on FUMBBL. This means it can no longer be taken as a skill by players. Existing players with the skill can still currently use it - be aware however that it now requires a TEAM REROLL to use as per the BB2016 changes on FUMBBL.
After the 2017 BBC, SWL will not be taking the option to include the use of PO. As per the last update in the Season 67 thread, any remaining players with PO cannot use the skill, and the coach must take the 'NO' option when asked if they wish to use PO.
  • In Ranked and Box, PO has been replaced by Juggernaut. This may still happen to League players. We have no news/inside-information to suggest that this will or won't happen.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • Dropping: Last season, there were an unfortunate number of drops, including some that happened mid-season. While SWLadmin accept that Real Life happens and often cannot be planned for or scheduled, drops like this are very disruptive to the league and can cause unfair or skewed results over the course of a season.
As such, we would like to remind coaches to be absolutely sure they can commit to the full season, and if not, to officially park BEFORE the season starts.
Dropping at any point in the season is NOT parking. This means you forfeit your position as coach of that team, and may be required to redraft in order to rejoin the SWL.
While this is not specifically stated in the guide, it is up to Admin discretion to allow teams/coaches back into the league.

  • Further BB2016 Rules Changes: Christer and Kalimar are continuing to work at implementing the BB2016 rules FUMBBL wide. Any changes that happen to the League division mid-season will be handled as fairly and efficiently as possible by the admin team. Some 'manual' houseruling may be needed, and we appreciate the patience, understanding and flexibility of coaches during this time.

  • Discord Chat: The FUMBBL IRC server is now officially defunct and no longer supported. For SWL chat, please use this invite link - https://discord.gg/xdT98fp
Commish's Comments:
  • Admin are keeping an eye on recent changes (particularly promotion/relegation and ToB) and will review/make changes as and when they deem necessary.
  • Admin reserve the right to change the divisional structure and drafting team's TV/TW limit whenever it is deemed to be in the best interests of the league.
  • Have fun, bring the Fluff and get those games played (I love to hear the Axeman cry!)

SWL History Lessons

The Southern Wastes League has had a long and storied history. During the time the league has been active (both pre- and post-war), many teams and individuals have stamped their mark on the Wastes.

We pay tribute to those teams and individuals in a number of ways. Teams are inducted into the SWL Hall of Fame; Peerless players of the past have awards named after them; and each season, the Regional and Conference divisions are named for players, teams, coaches and commissioners of our great league.

This season, we pay tribute firstly to SWL's longest-serving Commissioner, danielcollins. Whilst not the most successful coach, he took LRB4 Chaos Dwarves into the HoF by being a persistent bastard and basically not giving up despite a number of bridesmaid finishes. As a commissioner, he did his part keeping the league trucking along as coaches came and went. His no-nonsense management style helped push the league through the crisis of the Great War/LRB4-CRP changeover. If his personal life hadn't changed, I'm quite certain he'd still be there, a steady hand on the tiller of the Great Ship that is the SWL.

Our Conference divisions are this season named after some of the best-known teams in the SWL (past, present, and past/present).
Slumbering Skink need no introduction. They are, quite simply the MOST successful team in the Southern Wastes. Much of this success must be attributed to the simple fact of their longevity, but their seemingly-immortal coach has shown time and again that you can never keep a good Skink down, and he's had some very good skinks.
This team is such an institution, they even managed to survive the Great War. Tenaciousness personified? You be the judge...

A younger team (though not by much) and a less-successful one (though not by much!), the Large Head-On Colliders are the most successful Chaos Dwarves ever to grace the pitches of the SWL. Kicking off their careers in season 40 after the War, LHC secured their first flag a mere 6 seasons later (on the way breaking a 26 season drought for the Cdorfkind). Not content with this, they backed up and defended their title, becoming only the THIRD team in SWL history to do so.
The team then settled in and became a fixture, playing the greater percentage of their games in prem, finally securing 5 trophies, including another double in Seasons 59 and 60. Legendary Bull Francois Englert carried the team on many occasions, but much can also be said of sneutrino - a 163 game(!), legendary hobgoblin who was always there to lend a helping hand to his showier teammates.

The final two teams are well known to older heads in the League, but their stories bear witnessing by coaches new and old...

SWL Legends Season LXVIII

Season LXVII finished with a whopping 15 Legends, no deaths, no retirements, until the season gap. We've lost 3 from the parking chorfs, 2 lizards through retirement, and an orc who has escaped to fringe.

With the welcome return of the wonderful Viola, we kick off Season LXVIII with 10 legends. Two more look likely to join the ranks.

Image Viola (Wings of the Condor), 246SPP
Image Gangrenous Gabriel (SWL Fun Police), 238SPP
Image Damien "Shake it off" Halford (Blackwater Glee Club), 219SPP
Image Dan "Asereje" Rollins (Blackwater Glee Club), 213SPP
Image Fish Oil Nilsson (Wonga Wonga Whalekillers), 213SPP
Image Llstrr (Slumbering Skink), 213SPP
Image Iolas (Griffon Gate Sentinels), 198SPP
Image Caging Chris (Easy Mode Maniacs), 196SPP
Image Aymar (Daemon Ex Tesserae), 185SPP
Image Rotting Roger (SWL Fun Police), 178SPP

New in LXVIII:
Image The Violent Tango (Public Service Announcement), 178SPP (Round 3)
Image Gillian Starshine (Autumn's leaves), 176SPP (Round 5)
Image Roundabout I (Urban Nightmare), 179SPP (Round 6)
Image Drew "Dr Jones" De La Rocha (Blackwater Glee Club), 180SPP (Round 6)

Updates:

18/4/17: The Violent Tango is not just another Chaos brute. Yes, he may have got a huge proportion of his SPP with violence, but he also scores touchdowns. And! He has Kick.

4/5/17: Gillian Starshine. Ag5 Ma9. This beautiful creature was always destined for legend, if she could only survive the 48 games to get there. That she did, with nary a scratch on her.

9/5/17: Chaos Blockers aren't only about the Cas. Roundabout I is the 2nd highest legitimate Warrior scorer in Fumbbl League history. He makes Legend putting in the hard yards (only 2 MVPs in his 55 game career).

13/5/17: Drew "Dr Jones" De La Rocha, Agility, Strength... if there is any player that deserves TWO black pearls on his head it is this one.

Hi all,

As PM'd to SWLadmin and Tomay; the Prancing Unicorns are parking for this Season and will resume their adventures in Season LXVIX.

I will attempt to spectate games across all levels of the Season (Prem, Conf and Reggies) and hope you all have a fun-filled Season of Blood Bowl.

Regards
Keothi

Who should get a black pearl this season?

Rather than any sort of formal voting structure, we are leaving this one open. PM this account! You do it any way you like, votes, just name one player, name multiple ones... we want to hear from you... which SWL player is making your life misery?

What's that? The Fantasy league is back? Of course it is!!! Do you fancy the thought of the touchdown fanatic "Kai the Kobra" playing in the same team as the CAS hungry "Caging Chris"? Have you ever dreamt that the cripple "Clark" wore the same uniform as the foul fanatic "Robert Vileorc"? Well the SWL Fantasy League is the Fantasy League for you!!! A place where you can pit 11 players together and watch in excitement as they earn you spp that may in turn award you the Fantasy cup (currently held by m0gw41).

Image

Rules:
-You have a 1500 budget to buy players. A player's total cost is their positional price plus their skill cost.
-You may spend 1550 on your team if you include a big guy in your roster. A big guy includes Trolls, Ogres, Mummies Etc. This number does not increase if you were to choose more than one big guy.
-Rosters may only have 11 players. You can not go above or below this number
-Only one player from each SWL team. For example, you can not have two players from The Griffon Gate Sentinels
-Maximum of one position type per race. This means you are unable to get 2 Undead ghouls, but you may get 1 Necromantic ghoul and 1 Undead Ghoul. (Yes, that means if you wish, you can field 4 types of goblin)
-Players must not be hired if they have earned spp in Season 68 of SWL. This means any player that has earned spp in season 68 is ineligible for your fantasy team.
-You may not choose a player from your own SWL team. This is to ensure full focus on SWL. This also means if you are not currently an SWL player, you may still participate in the Fantasy League.
-MVP's are not included in SPP due to the change of rules.

The team that has totalled the most SPP by the end of the season will be crowned the champ of the Fantasy League. League updates will be on the SWL Fantasy League Thread.

Please PM me your fantasy teams ASAP. Deadline is THE END OF ROUND 1 OF SWL. In your PM, please use this format:

Player Name - Cost - Team - Race + Position - Player ID

The longer you wait, the larger chance that your favourite players will have played their round 1 games so get those PM's rolling! Please ensure that your team complies with the rules before sending it to me.

Hi.

Is there any other (useful) inducements to make up for the loss of wizard (which, I quess, for little bit too good)?

- MVP: MVP is now randomly allocated to three coach-chosen players by a d3 roll. What is this business? Hmmm... this does help us weak AV teams and makes me reconsider trees again...

Strange rules coming through...

For elves in general, you want Eldril for the Gaze mostly, and there's various AG 5 or ST 4 players in the stars come in very handy if you lack one of your own.

If you're not small enough for that, a few dirty trick cards can provide similar benefits, with Custard Pie, Pit Trap, and Chop Block often getting the ball out of the hands of tougher players, and for elves the Magic Runes magic item in the hands of a good thrower is usually completely devastating on defence against slower teams.

Also, Dlock, Piling On needs a team RR, which is surprisingly hard to justify most of the time. Such a shame the Bribery and Corruption never took it up. Very Happy

Coach Dlock’s wee write-up on Large Head-On colliders conference.

Altered Perception – Dark elf. Great coach, strong race, handy players. This team can hit you and play ball with equal, high quality. Couple extra ST players will give advantage against weaker teams and makes building strong cages hard. Even has too many great players to single any out.If anything is missing here, its lack of guard. My tip to win the conference.

Autumn’s leaves – Woodies. Average coach, decent race. Bruised and battered. This team has 2 decent players and one that shows some promise rest of the players either damaged or inexperienced. Gillian will bring couple of draws but wins this season are unlikely. My tip for wooden spoon.

Domestic Blitz – Amazon. Another great coach, I don’t know how strong Amazon is as a race. The roster seems well rounded, with hitting power, plenty of guard, and even some agility to do some proper ball playing. However, does this team have plan B if they get unlucky with casualty rolls against elves…?

Forest Magicians – Woodies. Coach is bit unknown to me, great race. This team is bit short on players but woodies can do amazing things with even basic wardancers. Great record already. This team will be the next big thing, but needs some time to build before challenging for the big league. Isn’t one thrower enough though?

Madness Mountain Misery – Nurgle. This team is the big, bad boys of the division that suits it perfect and now they don’t even have to fear wizards, so what can go wrong? I don’t even know the answer for the question myself, this team is just plain scary and will challenge for the top spot.

Rigorus Mort – Necromantic Horror (what the heck…?). This team does look bit raw to me, can definitely challenge some of the weaker teams on the day, but if casualties don’t come – there is no way through for this team. Against Nurgle I fear these guys will get solid beating. Still building this team.

Urban Nightmare – Chaos Chosen (who is coming up with these names anyways…?). Quick glance shows team with lots of injuries but lot of gold in the bank? Begs question if the team that we will see when season start resemble the team at the moment at all. Roundabout looks good article and I like the Dogs I build and there are couple that can develop further but there are just too many damaged players here.

Wings of the Condor – Elven Union (I wont say anything). Here is team that plays proper blood bowl. Well rounded players, Viola is just everybodys favourite piece (may he life forever) and supporting cast is able. My worry for this team is empty treasury. Will win most games, but loose against Nurgle and that will cost them spot on the top.

That’s all folks. Best of luck to all.
