Great work as always, thanks for putting all the effort.
@Nelphine, I assume LA was off the scale.

NBFL Season 27 Preview

It is once again time to take a big macro look at the league as a whole, since a new season is about to kick off! Who will challenge the status-quo in each division? Can any first year teams make a surprise push to the playoffs? And most importantly, can the Houston Treants prove superior to the prior champion by going back-to-back? The time is nigh for another round of Ex-con Predictions!

(Teams are listed in predicted order of finish)

NFC East
Perhaps the lone division where one could argue for literally any of the teams to win it, since two teams made the playoffs last season while the other two should be much improved in their second year. Will the dwarfs continue to avoid ties and go big or go home again? Can the frogs find a way to turn some ties into wins? Or will the elves start to shine after getting through their inaugural seasons?

1. Woodington Barkskins - dual St4 dancers and a Ma10 catcher will be tough to beat
2. Dallas Crowbar - a bit bloaty, but the duo of a strong runner and a fast runner means the dwarfs can adapt to the opponent and/or situation
3. Philadelphia Regal Eagles - perhaps the best roster on paper in the division, the key will be how well Cinco de Mifflin [UW] and company improve on their scoring defense (25 allowed last season)
4. New York Kroaks - led by a still relatively new frog coach, the Kroaks will have to rely more on scheme and team rather than the star players their division rivals have

AFC East
A division with a heavy favorite, another returnee, and two newcomers (albeit ancient NBFL rivals), it will be a race to see who can hand Miami its first regular season loss since season 25!

1. Miami Coronablights - armed and ready for another run at the Super Bowl title
2. Buffalo Chill - a couple of game-winners will have their work cut out for them while the team develops, but the pieces are in place for a late season push
3. Brew More Gents - low TV dwarfs will be a pain for a lot of teams, but getting pure W's might be tough early on
4. New Zigguratland Chariots - a lot of potential from the Bulls, but it will likely be a while before it can be realized

NFC North
Home to two traditional powers, the North now has even more competition thanks to a midseason replacement last year. I'm pretty sure they are also the only division with just three teams.

1. Green Baynana Grabbers - can the reining conference champs make one last push for the trophy with their core still intact?
2. Destroit Lynels - the team changes slightly, but the formula stays the same; a playoff lock
3. Chicago PallBearers - the new-old kids on the block, Chicago will look to upset the establishment after getting their feet wet last season

AFC North
A division that is starting to skew to both extremes, with Chaos and Khemri on one side, and Skaven and Dark Elves on the other. Cleaved Land looks to be the favorite, considering their rivals are either first or second year teams; will anyone be able to rise up to challenge them?

1. Cleaved Land Bedlam - averaging over seven wins with two playoff appearances in three seasons will grant you the top spot
2. Bleak and Cold Stalkers - probably the best rookie roster that we've ever seen, further development and good health could make this a very dangerous team down the line
3. B'altimoor Sk'avens - adding the #1 pick in the draft via a tradeup, these rats look to have all the tools they need to show major improvement in their second season
4. No-Skincinnati Bungles - while we will likely never pick the Bungles to win the division due to, well, Khemri, they can certainly make the playoffs if enough things break correctly (both literally and figuratively)

NFC South
The South has been a one-lizard show for a few seasons, but can the two second year teams make a move on them?

1. Atlatl Flechettes - seven big lizards with at least block/guard/mb, supported by a few stat skinks...sounds like a winning combination
2. Warpstone Bay Ratscallions - a host of new players will help these rats be a lot more competitive than last season
3. Carolina Pythoness - the Pythoness have all the pieces they need to make the playoffs; can coach Waagh put them in the right place on the proverbial chessboard?
4. Nawlins Lost Saints - a fat Pact team that will have a few highlights throughout another ultimately unremarkable season

AFC South
Home to the past two NBFL champs, the South will likely come down to the wire again. Could mrt make his long-awaited comeback to competitiveness and shake things up even further?

1. Houston Treants - the champs return their key players and replenish the roster with more fodder for opponents to cut down
2. Icelandic Dolts - the mass frenzy experiment will be fun to watch, though the team expects to still be competitive despite the meme-ing.
3. Jakesonville Jortles - with a very, well, interesting mix of players, will the Jortles return to their winning ways? Or have their division rivals officially left them in the dust?
4. Titannesse Kraken's - the damage potential is there, but do they have enough control skills like Guard and Standfirm to compete in this brutal group?

NFC West
A two-team division for quite some time, will this year be more of the same? Or will someone new step up to the plate?

1. C'attle C'haos - there are three guarantees in life: death, taxes, and C'attle being a pain in the ass to play against
2. Los Angeles Glams - there are three guarantees in life: death, taxes, and Meno cursing about something the Glams did
3. Arizona Redbulls - two uber bulls, guard across the blockers, some dirty player, and a quality mino...this roster is actually pretty good! Can they catch either of the two heavyweights above them?
4. San Foulcisco 69'ers - lean and healthy for the first time in ages, can the 69'ers use bribes and ride the wolves to a surprising playoff birth?

AFC West
A division that is hardly recognizable from when I resigned there, the West feels more wide open than it has been in a long time. Who will emerge from the pack and claim the division?

1. Denver Brontos - being fat may come back to bite them this season, but they should still be able to score even when under-lizarded
2. Tijuana Charros - any slippage from Denver could see the Charros take their spot, though rolling a stat on a pestigor could really help the team out
3. Las Vegas Gamblers - can coach doofr copy another WE team and make the playoffs in his first season as well?
4. KC Cows - a great draft class, but the early returns for chaos are always low; buy stock now before the prices rises!

NFC Playoff Predictions

1. C'attle C'haos
2. Green Baynana Grabbers
3. Atlatl Flechettes
4. Woodington Barkskins
5. Los Angeles Glams
6. Destroit Lynels
7. Chicago PallBearers

The Glams settle for a wildcard from the West, while the North manages to get three teams into the bracket.

The opening playoff round sees an elf battle, a lizard v CD showdown (playoff nelphine is not thrilled), and a North rematch between the Grabbers and PallBearers.

The second round sees C'attle get the lowest seed left, which are the Lynels. Meanwhile the Glams and the Grabbers meet again in the playoffs, likely with some scores to settle.

NFC Championship
Destroit Lynels vs Los Angeles Glams

The top teams go down to some underdogs, but these two are veterans of deep playoff runs in the past, and are no slouches!

AFC Playoff Predictions

1. Miami Coronablights
2. Houston Treants
3. Cleaved Land Bedlam
4. Denver Brontos
5. Bleak and Cold Stalkers
6. Icelandic Dolts
7. Tijuana Charros

The North, South, and West each send another representative to the dance.

The Wildcard round sees Woodies take on Nurgle, Chaos battle with Norse, and Lizards square off with Dark Elves.

The Divisional round has Miami face the Stalkers (in a game that likely features the most stat increases in NBFL history), while Houston attempts to deal with the Bedlam.

AFC Championship
Miami Coronablights vs Houston Treants

A rematch of last season's epic title game, can the second act live up to the standard of the first?

NBFL Super Bowl XXVII
Destroit Lynels vs Miami Coronablights

A battle between two coaches who play their respective race to the book (lean, mean CDs vs super-gutters), in what promises to be a bloody and exciting game.

Prediction:
Lynels 2 - 3 Coronablights (OT)

A fantastic match but one where the gutters cannot be stopped when it matters most!

This promising draft pick got to play 11 turns of NBFL action before being dead like his teammates. He was everything you wanted in a ghoul, and died like they tend to do.

Injury of the week
Whitney Mercilus

A guarding Wardancer as strong as an Ogre breaks his neck and retires from Bloodbowl. A tough start to Vegas season.

A homegrown linerat, Gulash was stronger and more helpful than the average rat. Averaging more than one spp per game ,he lasted just 1 turn against the gents, before his forced retirement.

Death of the week

Peter "da Wall" Ipstein [UTEP]

The Bull that replaced Big Ben after he went down, goes down. This leaves Destroit with no one to carry the ball, and may make them go from super bowl aspirations to rebuilding

Injury of the week

Evan 'Femur' Weaver [CAL]

In a week with more dead than injured, A solid blocking but also decaying Tomb Guardian taking a hit to his armor is going to hurt moving forward.

What a Rat! Stronger and more agile than most gutter runners the death of Nob ends a promising career for a gutter runner that didn't live up to his potential in the NBFL

Injury of the week

Semisi ''Uluave'' Dolt [CAL]

The Ulfwerenar now has the toughness of the rest of his team mates thanks to a fractured skull.

Death of the week

Derek Bortles

No real choice for death of the week. Bortles lead his team to multiple Superbowls, had 158 completions and 1004 passing yards in 122 games. A true legend and sure fire hall of fame player. Cheers to the end of an era.

Injury of the week

Bonnie Cone [UNCC]

A lot of competition for this weeks injured star, but ultimately it's the one turner that's now one strength. He'll be a big salary cap hit moving forward as he is now a true specialist, and will need to be protected on the field more than ever.

The Dead and Injured List Week 6

A bad week for the Many-Men, and another week means another parade of wood elves in boxes.

The Dead
Mangledsota Many-Men Paul Bunyan [UM] Human Blitzer 134 spp
Mangledsota Many-Men Nathan Cragnose [O] Dwarf Troll Slayer 56 spp
Los Angeles Glams Treeman Acrum Jr. Catcher 31 spp
Warpstone Bay Ratscallions Tzar Sisk Lineman 11 spp
B'altimoor Sk'avens Poot Lineman 6 spp
Las Vegas Gamblers Joe Shoeless Thrower 6 spp

Las Vegas Gamblers Liv Boeree Catcher 0 spp

Injured Stars
Green Baynana Grabbers Davante Adams Chimpanzee 189 spp -MA
Mangledsota Many-Men Lee [MzST] Dwarf Blitzer 108 spp niggled

Death of the week

Paul Bunyan [UM]

The speed and agility of a gutter runner with all the hitting power of a star human blitzer. Survived just 19 games in the NBFL.

Injury of the week

Davante Adams

Just two injuries to stars, but the biggest star in the league smashed his hip. He won't have a potion to fix him up this time, and we'll see if the injury slows him down in the 2nd half of the season after a much needed rest and recovery for the chimp in week 7.

The Dead and Injured List Week 7

A whole lot of talent won't be around for the 2nd half of the season. Woodington monopolizes the Injured list.

The Dead

Titannesse Kraken's Dewz MkKallister Pestigor 178 spp
Chicago PallBearers DE#90 Mummy 100 spp
Los Angeles Glams Allan Bridgford Catcher 85 spp
New Zigguratland Chariots Zecks "The Chosen" Orinson [Pepperdine] Chaos Dwarf 49 spp

Injured Stars

Woodington Barkskins Celebriän Nólatári II Catcher 42 spp -MA
Woodington Barkskins Baby Groot Treeman 35 spp niggled

Death of the week

Dewz MkKallister

Dewz was a pool II expansion pick all the way back in season 22. 74 games later, he was an NBFL legend. Just the prototypical killer with 61 casualties before the violence caught up with him.

Injury of the week

Celebriän Nólatári II

Not a lot of competition this week, but a speedster smashed his hip. We'll see if he still has the speed to break away from trouble in the 2nd half of the season.

The Dead

Chicago PallBearers Ryan Killer Zombie 78 spp

Death of the week

Ryan Killer

Ryan was one strong zombie that kept control over his part of the field. Unfortunately, the necro couldn't get him to rise again.

Injury of the week

James Woodward

A smashed hip will limit the mobility of the defensive stand out. He won't be leaping as far to get on the ball as he once did, but here's hoping he can still provide some big hits.

Icelandic Dolts Phillips Dolt [MzST] Ulfwerenar 80 spp -AG

Death of the week

Jaire Alexander

The only dead player that was making a name in the NBFL. The Agile Bonobo spent his career learning to defend himself, but in the end he couldn't fend death.

Injury of the week

Amberle Blackwell [DUKE]

In a week with some serious talent taking serious injuries, the big Bull from Destroit was the worst. The lone bright spot in the Lynel's season fractured his skull and will have to live a more careful life if he want's to make it to the end of they season.

The Dead and Injured List Week 9

Another short list... do better NBFL

The Dead

Icelandic Dolts Lawless Dolf [MSBD] Catcher 128 spp
Mangledsota Many-Men Brandone “ArKh o' Da Khovenant [KHLEV] Ogre 91 spp
Carolina Pythoness Dipsy Selowane [StL] Lineman 40 spp
New York Kroaks Austin Johnson Lineman 0 spp
Tijuana Charros Bruce Jarvis Rotter 0 spp

Injured Stars

Jakesonville Jortles Binjimen Victor Bro-Hio [BRO] Catcher 215 spp niggled
Chicago PallBearers Floris von Rosemund (Rut) Zombie 114 spp -MA
Tijuana Charros Naquez [UK] Bloater 85 spp -AV

Death of the week

Lawless Dolf [MSBD]

Not a lot of stiffs in the competition, but competition among the stiffs. But it is former Super Bowl winner who averaged > 20 yards per game in his career that gets the nod for death of the week.

Injury of the week

Floris von Rosemund (Rut)

Tough to pick a winner here, because they all underwhelm when you look at the players. In the end, the nod goes to the zombie over the rookie one turner.
