Estalian Super League
This league is currently under development. Please provide feedback, feel free to go hard. I am building a new game system derivation of blood bowl within the constraints of the FUMBBL client. Constraints within the realm of art or any creative endeavor allows you to focus fully on finer details with a focus on tension and having fun. I am also providing unique decisions for coaches with added complexity that is not compulsory such as trading players. The first season will involve 20 to 30 coaches with a standard and 7s team. 7’s season and standard season alternate upon completion. As an example, the 7’s season ends, the draft occurs and the 11’s season begins—ends and we will repeat with season 2 of 7’s. This will be the best place to play 7’s and then there will be investment into the major league. It will be hard to recruit 10 players alone, I know. However, I am also providing a superior product in my opinion. Not just conceptually, but more importantly I am open to reconfiguring it based on forum feedback before launching it. Before the start of the inaugural season there will be a vote for commissioner and I will be ineligible to be voted for. All rules will be amended based on a proposition and voting process. However, I will have directed the framework of the league. I will help with art assets, administrative actions like assigning skills to draftees and tedious excel work. In other words, I will keep the league rolling.

Tilean Seven’s Group

team minimum mirrors the number of teams comprising the EPG and ESG i.e. 30.

However, there may be more than 30 7’s teams as long as the number is divisible by 5.

All fired players become draftees at the end of the season.

Although encouraged, EPG and ESG team owners do not have to directly coach their corresponding 7’s team. In fact, this will allow the ESL to have an active waiting list playing a 7’s team in the likely event that ESL coaches do not want to play in the 7’s league too. Once they take an 11’s franchise if they so choose, they lose ownership of the developmental team unless they are replacing their corresponding major league team that has territoriality over it. To that point 7’s coaches of the corresponding 11’s franchise may jump the waiting list line and represent the 11’s coach taking a break from FUMBBL.

Divisions of 5

13 regular season matches in which you play your divisions rivals twice and every team in another division once.

Each division will be paired to play each other after 5 seasons.

First leg of intra divisional play to start the season followed by interdivisional play, and the second leg of intra divisional play.

All 6 divisional champions receive an automatic bid to the playoffs and the next best two teams receive wildcard bids for a tournament of 8 called the National Championship of Tilea Tournament.

All other teams with a winning record will be eligible for bowl games. Apart from there being an odd number of teams with winning records. In which case the next best team will play that last winning team.

There is no TV cap.

Team divisions are named based on the teams that comprise it without the need of a broader conference affiliation.

After five seasons, the teams that will comprise the TSG will be reorganized into divisions based on the points scored across 5 seasons with bonus points attributed for winning a division, best TSG regular season record regardless of divisions, and NCTT Championship. A Reward for the team that tops the list.

Draft

Draft sizes will remain static, with 4 rounds. Players will be randomly generated from a roll chart to fill tout the space not covered by graduating 7’s players. The exception to the static nature of the draft class is if there are more than the quota of 7’s player, in which case, all of them will become draft eligible.

Injuries of potential draftees are not healed and will be a feature of that drafted player. Please refer to Free Agency and Practice Squad for more information why these players may still be worthwhile.

1st the free territorial pick. The major league coach will decide to draw any one player from their 7’s developmental franchise. This right may be traded for a player or a draft pick. If the player does not make the salary cap cut this player ALONE will be considered protected and indeed available for 7’s play for another year. This procedure may be run into perpetuity.

By all means, create a legend and only then or never draft them into your major league team. This is a purposeful workaround. However, the tradeoff for doing this means you cannot improve your major league team as quickly. This may be the best longitudinal decision or it may be better to compete now. This is another reason why practice squads are nice and why there may be some strategy to be in the ESG that does not have a salary cap. Yes, check practice squads. You may have 11 super soldier legendary players in cryostasis. I want you to be able to play 30 seasons and purposefully get relegated to join the no TV cap ESG to win all 9 games roughshod and win the Estalian Super League Championship. It will be exceptionally hard and longitudinal to do this, but it will be possible and quite a story to tell. In practice, this will be very rare, but it is the only way purposeful relegation can make sense, remain fun and involve a lot of interesting decisions.

2nd players with 4 years of service, 4 skills, or the equivalent amount of stored SP are automatically added to the draft.

3rd Random Generation. If the quota is not reached for a particular player class, then they are randomly generated from a roll chart.

4th The worst to best of the Estalian Standard Group have the first ten picks normally but may trade their 2nd 3rd, and 4th round picks at will. The worst to best Estalian Premier Group have the last twenty picks of the first round. Therefore, tanking is never a good option for draft position in the premier league.


Estalian Standard Group

ESG Rounds run concurrently with EPG

10 team cap.

Initial 10 Team Round Robin (9 games).

Finishing the year with 4 Ladder Matches.

13 games total.

The best team automatically replaces the worst premier league team.

2nd best team plays the 3rd worst premier league team in a qualifying match.

3rd best team plays the 4th worst premier league team in a qualifying match.

The 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th teams may agree to enter a random draw to promote automatically to the Premier league replacing the 2nd worst premier league team.

Estalian Premier Group

EPG rounds run concurrently with ESG

20 team league with 4 divisions of 5.

The divisional rivals will play each other twice during a season. Once at the beginning and once at the end of a regular season. Midseason will involve interdivisional matches

13 game schedule.

The members of a division will play every team of another division once creating a temporary conference.

Each division will play all other divisions during the regular season after 3 seasons.

The four top teams of each division within a conference receive automatic bids to the Grand Estalian Tournament. The two next best teams within a conference will receive wildcard bids to the Grand Estalian Tournament. The 2nd best Conference champion at year’s end will have their standard 4th seed play a play in match with the Estalian Standard Group Champion. The play in game is on the 2nd best conference champion’s side because it is likely to be a good team; good teams win round robins, period. This means that all major teams have an opportunity to win the championship.

Postseason Continued
All the major league teams (ESG & EPG) that were ineligible or did not qualify for the Grand Estalian Tournament may elect or decline admittance to the the Tilean Invitational Tournament (yes, bar maid imagery). The winner of this tournament will receive the only 5th round pick.

Competitive Reorganization of EPG

The best performing division in terms of total points that its teams scored during the regular season will take on the randomly promoted ESG team if one of its teams was relegated. If not it will be provided to the 2nd best division and so on.

Promotion matches will replace or maintain a team in a division directly.

The best ESG team will go to the worst performing division in terms of total points that its teams scored during the regular season.

After three seasons, the teams that will comprise the EPG will be reorganized into divisions based on the points scored across 3 seasons with bonus points attributed for winning a division, best record within a conference, best EPG regular season record regardless of divisions, Tilean Invitational Tournament Championship, and Grand Estalian Tournament Championship. A Reward for the team that tops the list.

The best and worst EPG teams will be inducted into the first division. The second best and worst team will repeat the process for the remaining franchises. Then the third and fourth will draw. This process repeats itself until all teams have been rebalanced. Divisions will be named relative to the team names that comprise it and the one year conference it will take part in will also be named relative to those two divisional names.

The next three year cycle begins with a blank slate towards the next reorganization.

Trading

After round 7 a bye week round will occur in which multiple trades will be made. Teams will ready up for round 8 proper or will not be eligible for further trades during the season at the end of the bye week.

During the offseason trading may occur at will.

Yes, you may trade 7’s team territoriality—as long as all participants end the trade with territoriality over a 7’s team. Do not make these trades lightly because you will be trading full 7’s squads. New teams will not be made—your squad will just be edited to reflect this wholesale change. Pretty deep, huh?

Free Agency

As stated previously you may draw one player from free agency per round if your ESG or EPG team falls below 1400.

All fired players from ESG or EPG teams join Free Agency.

A season end all non-niggling injuries turn into niggles and all niggles are fully cured.

Practice Squads

You are limited to x1 ogre, x1 hobbit, x2 blitzers, x1 thrower, x2 catchers, and x4 linemen in an external roster on an excel sheet of your major league team.

You will be locked into your roster at the start of the season.

You will select from your returning players, draft picks and practice squad who will make it to the 16 man team.

Unused draft picks, returning practice squad members, and returning players from last year’s team may fill the positions of the practice squad.

When your EPG or ESG team falls below 1400 you may draw from your practice squad ONCE per season instead of drawing from free agency.

Once a season ends the practice squad players’ non-niggling injuries automatically turn into a niggle and their niggles are fully cured. A player that spends two season ends on a practice squad is fully healed.

Only if there is room on the practice squad—there is an option to fill it with a player during the regular season. Although, this is not advised for the current year, it may save a favorite player.

Yes, you may place a player into the practice squad to heal an injury on the very last day of the season and have an injury become a niggle or fully heal a niggle. Why because you are sacrificing depth for maintenance. This is fully meant to be exploited but there is also a tradeoff.

Any player cut from practice squads automatically turn into free agents.

The idea is to allow Signal Callers the opportunity to pass to the Running Back and allow it to be a thrown teammate. Please note that kicking a player with right stuff is more lethal than throwing the teammate downfield. Therefore, it is riskier but also occurs more often. Consider that the handoff to the passer by a receiver due to a kickoff by an opposing linebacker putting it out of reach. There will be more dice rolls but the opportunity to score with the Running Back will be present more often.

Concept: Slow movement is meant to make their placement on the field more strategic across multiple turns. This is following the Games Workshop trend of gifting two ‘blocker’ type units with 4 St onto a team and boosts the strength of teams providing a bash alternative to play. Although, I would admit that the St up units often seen in draft leagues is a stronger influence. Not necessarily a hard counter to the receiver, but allows teams to develop into hard hitting squads.

Concept: Standard human linemen because they are perfectly crafted to be the most vanilla standard unit. However, the stats are such that a RR on a linemen could substitute a pick up, catch and even pass roll in the stead of the skills. Furthermore, developing these core units with skills will be key in a draft league.

Theme

Link the 11’s team with its 7’s team by using related naming conventions. For example, a major league team named the Spartans may have a corresponding 7’s team named the Warriors but not the War Hogs, my apologies for the Turing Test. To further add to theme a portion of the field should have a small logo referencing the major league team that has territoriality over them.

Uniforms can be uniquely colored between the 7’s and 11’s teams. The home jerseys can have a predominant color. Away jerseys featuring the team colors must still be predominantly white.

There must be only one team that has a certain kind of predominant color. As an example, there are only light and dark versions of a certain color. Here are the colors, light red, dark red, light blue, dark blue, light green, dark green, black, grey, light yellow, dark yellow, light orange, dark orange, light purple, dark purple, light brown, dark brown, dark pink, light pink, light teal, dark teal, grey, Philadelphia Eagles Green, Mountbatten Pink, Peach/Burlywood, Puce, Amaranth. A secondary color. A piping color without restrictions. A selection of metallic color for armor, helmet, or belt. Lastly, a blocky pattern if you like for us to recreate on the uniform. Metallic colors are only optional, because colored helmets are nice too if not cooler.

If your predominant color is dark red and you want light yellow you may not if another team has light yellow as a predominant color and dark red as a secondary. As per my example the dark red predominant coach can have a piping of light yellow if their secondary is another color like dark orange.

If you can make a distinctive color, it can be accepted besides those listed. For instance, dark green and light green are listed. Olive green is distinctive enough to allow it. Generally, these will be accepted, but make sure that the colors are saliently different. I do not expect there to be a predominantly dark brown and light brown team, but make your yellow noticeably paler. Put some spark into it.

The concept is that uniforms will look distinctly different always. Even if home jerseys were compared. By constraining you in this way, it gives you the ability to think critically about what you want to see. You may want a blue team, oh yeah we have five of those, so what kind of blue? That sort of friendly but implacable stance!

Art Direction

I can help with sprite work.

I will place an overlay to designate sidelines onto a field.

All teams need a logo.

This is not a joke league, put your heart into your team’s name, and logo.

I can do the logo if you would prefer.

Every field should be complete, which is to say at least a logo.

I want all sprites to have a unique home jersey and white dominant away jersey.

I want to follow the original DLE’s example in terms of having static sprite format and differentiate based on colors.
