Someone even bothered me about intellectual property, and because I don't know the artist who created my favorite figures |
If you want to print some of the Secret League teams I've done (indicated in the team roster page) let me know. I'd like to see the end results =) I've yet to do a portfolio of them, but since some are still unreleased, I'm going to make one after they are released.
Edit: For Competitive I've made the Fire Breathers for Chaos Dwarves, feel free to use them for fun. |
Wow thank you very much! That very kind and its mostly appreciate!!! I was thinking of Undeads for next, it'll be finally chorfs! Again thank you very much!! |

Maybe you can reach out to him and ask for the rights to use the icon and make profits with his work. You could even consider sharing the profits with the site — not a bad idea, right? |
Thank you that very help me! I don't know who is the artist behind woodies in particular.
@Pat @Nick Kelsh @WhatBall @Cowhead @harvestmouse @Balle2000 @MisterFurious @Marcepan @Tussock
If you known who is he, please tell him to contact me for having a team with lot of gratefull.
Yep we're totally in the same mindset. I don't need money or personnal profit, I just want miniatures and if my project can give to somebody else happiness, that's better... And if someone is motivated to work on with me, that's even more better! |

Oh... It was 2009, I thought I could do my army of wood elves by sticking printed images of the minis on pieces of plywood... The Plywood Elves. |

Hmmmmmmmmm
So, icons are really 3....4? eras.
Era 1 the early days were all done by Pat. These had strong black shadows and outlines. They were comical and had a French cartoony feel.
Era 2 were done by Nick Kelsch. These are still the base and the format used for today. Most ST3 icons used today (that aren't from a team post 2007) are Nick Kelsh icons.
Era 3 is the Whatball era. Whatball tidied up the administration on icons. He totally revamped ST2 & ST4 icons and was the driving force behind the Stunty division icons.
Era 4 (I don't know much about) Ramchop/Tussock? era. With new teams and new ideas a new era of organisation.
Now, a few points.
1. It's not altogether clear who did what icons, as there was generally a lot of collaboration. Also, a lot of ripping. One thing with icon making, ripping others icons apart to make new icons is.....was common practice. So, 1 icon could have several contributors' work.
2. Although icon makers gave Christer all rights to use the icons how he wished, this isn't the same as somebody making figures and selling them on. No permission was/has been given for this project.
3. A few years ago while Whatball was in charge of icons. A Spanish bloodbowl set used icons to make travel magnetic blood bowl sets. Whatball was extremely unhappy about this. No permission was asked or given. I feel that if he still cares (he may not) he at least wouldn't be happy about not being consulted.
I don't know, I don't want to be the killjoy here. However, this project shouldn't have happened without approaching at least Christer first.
As for the Wood Elves. If they're coloured blue/red the original ones would have been Nick Kelsch. https://www.deviantart.com/nkelsch
The extra positional/linemen could have been Tussock or Ramchop. The extra Wardancers I cannot remember.
In most cases now, it's not clear 1 name who made teams. |

Again, I feel I have to justify that I am not a capitalist thief, beacause everytimes that someone get an idea, there is someone to pick his white horse and declare the crusade of rights and morality. |
Just my personal thoughts here, but I don't think anyone here is on their white horse, but they have valid concerns - maybe not for the reason you think.
Games Workshop vigilantly and aggressively defend their Intellectual Property (IP), and anyone selling something one one of their brands or trademarks will get sued. This happens all the time to third party minimakers and there are rumours that a big wave of banhammering is incoming with the new box set being released.
Christer runs this site as a free site - no fees, no ads, just donations. The moment the site endorses (or shows a perception of endorsement, by allowing commercial activity) commercial activity, they leave themselves open for litigation.
We love this site, we love that we are not actively leaned on by GW, we love that we get to sanction NAF events. This is why what you propose conveys as a bad idea to many people.
And yeah, when people do things without compensation for a collaborative as open source that are then used by others for commercial gain, it can rub people the wrong way.
Me personally? I wish you the best of luck with your endeavours, but maybe try facebook? Even discord? Just my 2 cents... |

I've often wondered about TourPlay's use of fummbl icons. They seem to have built something that might make money. |

What I forgot to say. The work done here is exceptionally good. I'm sure it takes a lot of time painting miniatures by pixels....a lot longer than making an icon. |

No need to wonder, you can read the licence for the FFB Client on github and get your answer:

Interesting question, a quick online search showed that it is at least debatable if assets like images are covered by the MIT license. The american law seems not to think of them as part of the software. But I'm no expert, so don't quote me. |

Hello Fumbbl fans!!!
Well, I never thought my idea of playing with Fumbbl figurines would spark such debate. Maybe it will ultimately lead to positive developments?
I'd really like to offer my files as a free download for anyone who wants them. If printing and cutting the figurines myself in exchange for compensation poses an ethical problem, then I won't offer it, so everyone can rest assured.
I really want my enjoyment —if shared by some with the same fun intentions— to primarily benefit Fumbbl.
I'll say it again: I have no prospect of personal enrichment (there are more profitable things than figurine design for that...), but I'd now really like us to create a community project with other crazy people Yesterday there were projects for dice and poker coins, why not tomorrow for figurine sets?
Only for that I just want to be sure not to harm artists, nor this platform, nor the Fumbbl community. |
