NBFL Draft Preview: Season 35
Another draft is soon upon us! However, this is not any ordinary draft; the entire league is heading into a new era:
A new commish (all hail garc)! A new ruleset (BB2025)! First time races (Black Orcs)!
This is going to be the start of a very intriguing season, but each of these new teams has to get their foundation correct. Likewise, all of the returning teams need to adjust to new rules, new positional limits, and new skills! Can they supplement their current roster while acclimating to this new environment? Let's take a look at how the main draft could break down:
1. Trans-Fat Crisco Porky Diners
Coach: Cervus
Race: Human
Division: NFC West
Previous Record: 1/4/9
Team Needs: Best Player Available
Now with only two Blitzer spots, it would be hard to move on from either of the two five-skill players. But a glaring lack of a stat-star really holds the roster back, and is needed at any position.
Possible Pick: Andre Sam / Marshall / MAR / Lineman/Skilled/Blitzer / 130 / 8 / Block , Sure Hands , Two Heads , Dodge , AG , AG
Getting another amazing scoring threat could help the team hopefully avoid getting a top pick again next season. Mr Sam would lose Dodge and swap Two Heads for Sidestep.
2. Dallas TBD

Team Needs: All (new franchise)
Armed with the second pick in both the Main and Comp drafts, Dallas has a chance to come away with some elite players to build their franchise around.
Possible Pick: Hezak Voldimurt / U of Teeth / TEETH / Strength/Blitzer / 58 / 10 / Block , Mighty Blow , MA , AG
Assuming some sort of carrier is the target in Comp, Mr Voldimurt would give the team a dynamic safety for defense. They would drop Block in this case.
3. Dirtroit Amon-Ra Dawgers

Race: Tomb Kings
Division: NFC North
Previous Record: 2/3/9
Team Needs: One Thrower, One Blitzer
The Dawgers have a stud Thrower, amazing Blitzer, and four solid to spectacular Guardians; they need both a complementary Blitzer or carrier to round out the team, but which one will they target first?
Possible Pick: Rich Gannon / Delaware / DEL / Skilled/Blitzer / 97 / 31 / Dodge , Side Step , MA , MA
In this case, the allure of having two Ma8 carriers is too much to pass up, especially since Mr Gannon should have enough Spps to take Block now, or save for a shot at AG.
4. Pittsburgh Preyers

Race: Chaos Dwarf
Division: AFC North
Previous Record: 2/3/9
Team Needs: One Blocker, One or Two Flamesmiths
The Preyers have some nice pieces already, and are looking to supplement them in the draft.
Possible Pick: Tanner Bowles / Cantucky / CANT / / Strength/Blitzer / 92 / 15 / Mighty Blow , Pro , Tackle , Claws , MA
Mr Bowles would fit right in, having previously played the same position in college. Plus, having both Tackle and Claw seems pretty appealing.
5. Indianapolis TBD

Team Needs: All (new franchise)
One can assume that any Lizard team will draft an AG Skink with one of their selections, leaving the rest for the Saurii.
Possible Pick: Alexander Tumor / Buboe St. / BUB / Strength / 55 / 9 / Horns , Block , Claw , Mighty Blow , Tackle
Mr Tumor would have to adjust a little after taking a bath for the first time ever, but the coaches could easily turn Horns and Claw into, say, Guard and Stand Firm.
6. Memphis Rhinestones

Team Needs: One Blocker, maybe a dedicated carrier
Memphis has a solid roster, though they've picked up a few injuries on good players. Will they be able to add someone to help them compete for the AFC South title this season?

Simply the best player on the board, adding Mr McLain would give the team another dynamic option on the field.
7. Buffalo Chill

Constantly beat to shit due to their playstyle in a brutal division, the Chill still have three legend players...and almost literally nothing else left on the roster.

Between the amazing name, juicy stat increase, and fun Frenzy/Jugg combo, this pick is almost fated to happen.

Coach Bucky made the playoffs once in Hairizona, but couldn't quite find consistent success in a tough division. What kind of player can he find here to help solve that problem in his new home?

Taking Mr Boyle as a...White Lion, I guess, would give the team a very hard hitting safety with the juicy Claw/MB combo.

Team Needs: Aste's devil dice
Unless coach KidCrest wants to replace a player for a different skill set, the roster doesn't need anything per say (outside of making a tough decision on which Khorngor to cut). Does that mean he's going to have to take a lino??

I understand that Aesa is a ways from Block, but if we're going to play Khorne, we might as well lean into trying to overwhelm the opposition. Another St4/Guard player would help do just that.
10. Carolina Underpantzers

Team Needs: A carry-Pestigor, maybe replace the Rotspawn
With the roster changes in BB2025, the current big guy loses the fun Defensive skill, and Pestigors are limited to two. Could coach Redoubt find players to help adapt to the new environment?
Possible Pick: Stayen Green / Buboe St. / BUB / Skilled/Blitzer / 60 / 6 / Block , Monstrous Mouth , MA , MA
Mr Green would add some needed speed to the roster, while inheriting ball carrying duties. Once he learns/grows Two Heads in the future, you have a pretty good carrier.
11. Orkland Wargs

Team Needs: To make some tough decisions
Holy hell are the Wargs going to be hit hard by the roster changes. The team is going to have to cut some really good, albeit banged up players, and adjust to the new era. Can they find some draftees to fill in the gaps?

It's possible that New Orleans won't even draft a Goblin, but most of the Strength options were a bit meh at a glance. With Mr Innis, it gives a faster scoring option with a shot to get AG.

He returns! Going with his NCBB specialty, coach Nelphine attempts to make his comeback with a team that historically been a tough one to use in the NBFL. But perhaps with some new buffs in hand, the Undead will make their mark on the league.

Unless an interesting Mummy is available, I would expect this to be a Wight selection. Mr Cert could look to add a stat in the near future as well.

The Commies have been agonizingly close to a championship for a while now, including having the #1 seed last season. Though the rules will slightly change their roster, they still expect to be a contender for some time.

Though not the stud thrower that Jeff George 14 was, Mr Young could provide a similar role while improving over time.
30. Miami Bad Mothersuckers

The Mothersuckers were cruising through the AFC last season until the playoffs, where they faced Brew More before falling to Baltimore thanks in part to some injuries in the first game. You could not find a bigger contrast in two opponents in consecutive games in maybe, ever.

Though you don't need the Defensive per say, the Countess comes with literally all the other skills that Miami seems to look for on their Vampires.
31. Baltimore Ballhawks

Holy hell, was Baltimore on a heater in the playoffs. Though they had a 'fine' regular season for a rookie NBFL team, their aggressive playstyle took a huge toll on the team. However, in the single-elimination format of the playoffs, the style almost resulted in a Super Bowl victory. It sure did cost them though!
Possible Pick: Lex Luger SUNY Buffalo SUNY Lineman/Skilled 29 10 Dauntless , Frenzy , Wrestle
Though there might be 'better' Wardancers available, Mr Luger seems to fit the style of play that coach Morehouse employs.
32. Chicago Football Team

Team Needs: A bigger wheel-barrel for his huge sack
Shamefully, we let coach Asteflix win the Super Bowl with an awful Blood Bowl race and quite frankly probably the worst roster on paper to claim the title in quite some time. But if you play well and have some things go your way, sometimes that can propel you to victory! Congrats to the very humble champ!

Reporter A: "Coach, is it true that you are bringing in a new scheme with new players this upcoming season?"
Ex-con: "It is. We felt that this was the right time with the new CBA rules to not only send off a previous generation of players into a well-earned retirement, but begin anew with the next wave of successful New York players."
Reporter B: "The last time you changed schemes you made a declaration that you would not stop until the Super Bowl trophy resided on your side of the city. Will you be making the same statement this time as well?"
Ex-con: *laughs* "Well the league was in a very vile place at that point, with a lot of evil-oriented franchises having success. It was imperative that we corrected the league, and I believe we did that."
[Camera pans to the case behind the coach, where two Super Bowl trophies reside]
Reporter A: "What did you tell your players about the change? Surely they were disappointed."
Ex-con: "I think they were more disappointed with how this last season went, failing to make the playoffs. But they also understood that it was the end of an era, and that they had earned retirement. Though many of the players through the years did not make it very long, some have been around for ages.
Bob Kuechenberg [Miami] will go down as a franchise legend, and arguably the greatest Frog player in NBFL history. He was our original Pool 2 Comp pick, and played an astounding 156 games between the two CBA rules during his time, despite every opponent knowing that he was coming to sack the ball carrier.
Blitzer Jawuan Johnson [TCU] played in 98 games, including both Super Bowls, where he was critical in the second half against Brew More and inflicted three casualties against Las Fangsas.
Travis Brown was merely the 47th pick in the draft, working his way from three skills to Legend status with 145 games played in a thankless roadblock role.
I could go on for about three hours, but I know we are here to talk about the future. I'm just glad that some of the players, including these three, were able to leap onto the lilly-pad of retirement, even if some of their injuries will never fully heal."
Reporter C: "I'm sure the old players will enjoy the all-you-can-eat flies that the city will offer them after winning two titles. But tell us, coach, what scheme will you be running this year? What kind of players will you be looking for?"
Ex-con: "Well, we want to continue to have a dynamic team that will punish evil-doers. We will still rely heavily on players that can Dodge, but we do want to have some bigger players that provide Strength as well.
