I will be attending the Golden Tentacle this year, but it will be my first time playing BB since the new edition dropped. I will be playing Dwarfs this time as, seeing how the new editions changes clipped their wings, they would be open to more experimental builds.
Dwarf teams are allowed 1100k to build their team with and 150k for skills using the default pricing (with the elite tax) The only star available to them for the event is Lewdgrip Whiparm as he is the event mascot star and is allowed on all teams.
Here is are Lewdgrip's rules as you don't see him to often and has been kind of written out of the current edition so he isn't in the book
Lewdgrip Whiparm 160,00 GP MA 6 / ST 3 / AG 3+ / PA 3+ / AV10+
Skills: Dodge, Loner 4+, Pass, Cannoneer, Sure Hands, Tackle, Tentacles
Teams: All
Special Ability: Slap and Sling
Once per half Lewdgrip may both throw a pass and blitz, in either order. In order to perform both actions, he
may continue his any additional movement he has after the first action is performed. Both actions must fall
under his normal movement. This does use up both the pass and the blitz action for this turn.
I am considering
2x Blitzers with Break Tackle
1x Slayer with Mighty Blow
1x Runner with Block
1x Runner with Leader
1x Lineman with sneaky git
4x Lineman
Lewdgrip Whiparm
2x reroll
1x Coach
(10k unused skill allowance and 5k treasury remain)
The idea is now that classic guard spam is cost prohibitive I would instead focus on countering Dwarfs' biggest weakness: low mobility. They will still be tanks bastards and having so much defense ensures I dont have to worry about my opposition's guard players.
What are your thoughts? |

Sneaky Git isn't worth the paper it's printed on, even if you don't have a physical copy.
Since you have zero Guard or ST, may I recommend Dauntless? |

Jackass is right, this is going to suffer against big guys, but then there's already Dauntless on the Slayer. Dirty Player is better than Sneaky Git.
I don't see the benefit of taking Lewdgrip on a team like this (which saddens me as the Golden Tentacle is all about that tentacular spectacular of a player):
1) you've got Tackle on the Blitzers
2) Tentacles on a ST3 piece is ... lamentable
3) Good luck throwing when you have at most two AG3+ receivers.
I think the dwarfs are going to get turned inside out as soon as you run into a team with some claw, and there's a lot of that in this edition. Sure, you've got thick skull, but against dwarfs at the weekend my bloodspawn casualtied two and knocked out 5 more.
So: drop a lineman, get a bribe, and take the Deathroller instead of Lewdgrip! |

If I drop a Lineman I will be down to 10 players and thus can't make a legal list. Now if I dropped Lewdgrip and the coach I could afford the Deathroller but no Bribe. I choose Sneaky Git over Dirty Player as I consider removals to be more bonuses than a core strategy, given tht removals are completely random. Dwarfs need to be up players in the second half however and felt reducing ejection chances were worth more than higher injury chances.
I also chose to include Lewdgrip for both tournament theming (and tie breaker,) and to have a more mobile Runner with some bonuses.
I could trade Lewdgrip and Sneaky Git for a second Slayer with Mighty Blow and an apothecary or reroll. But if i go that route I might as well just trade leader to make the Blitzers guard and be what basically is the standard tournament Dwarf team |

With 11 players, fouling is not a valid strategy at all. Sneaky Git doesn't change that. A Bribe kinda does, but only if you have a Dirty Player.
This edition doesn't really reward creativity. Every team now has one or two clear lines that you pretty much have to ride, and going at all off the rails will get you unstuck pretty fast unless you have a clear and coherent plan to the contrary.
Also, AV9+ Dauntless Frenzy is not remotely the same as a Blocker with Dauntless.
Dropping Lewdgrip saves you enough to get a Blocker, a Bribe, and 40k in skills. Then you can trade your SG for DP, and you'll drop real carnage until you use the Bribe, and after if they've taken the worse of it.
Break Tackle sucks on Blitzers, though: getting to a 3+ dodge on a MA5 player who has Block, on a team where everyone else has Block too, is not a strategy worth funneling a skill into. I'd rather get two Guard and another skill on some Dwarf with the 80k we have after stripping BT away. If that other skill is Tackle, that kinda does what you were trying to do with BT. That said, if you're going to be beating on them with DP and a Bribe, you also want some more Mighty Blow: every Casualty makes the next Casualty better. This is extremely high-variance play at this point, though: 160k in improvements and inducements just to hit kinda hard without the ST to back it up... nah. That also means you can do something better than DP and a Bribe. The money's just not there.
Leader on the Runner is fine. Leader is good on a team like this, you'll be making a lot of 1d and half-die hits.
Being different is awesome: far be it from the guy with almost 600 all-lino Humans games to tell you to do the tried-and-true. But you gotta have a theory as to how it's actually going to win. Do you play magic? Build your team like you'd build a deck.
How to do that in tournaments with Dwarfs? I don't know. Lean into the Roller, sacrifice everything for a Roller and 3 Bribes? That's terrible, don't do that. No clue. It likely doesn't involve Lewdgrip, though. |

Or just throw whatever adds up to the right money together. Get hurting skills. Not fouling skills. Get drunk and Roll dice See what happens |
