No, but I think with a bit of common sense and experience thru could make a ruleset that appealed to almost everyone.

POMB would be awesome if it weren't OP.

Like, if they went to 2020 sensibilities for Claw and MB (so active skills) and had PO work on AV only and put you prone before the reroll, it would be an amazingly cool contribution to the Strength category. Way better than Arm Bar. Heck, it would still be well-balanced if you let it be used on a foul so long as the original AV roll didn't leave you spotted by the ref. (That would be a buff for Sneaky Git, which, btw, wouldn't be usable on the reroll - fluffy as you're piling on.)

In addition to the lack of a killstack to keep stats in line, skills cost slightly too much, which ends up being a major problem. There are a few other minor issues (the 1+ rules are extremely dodgy), but if they fixed just those two glaring problems, I'd call this the best ruleset yet. Devious skills also need help, but that's relatively minor, and the fix could easily dovetail with the killstack problem.

Also, I don't hate most of the roster changes (Bloaters OP), but I do think a 12-up box is dumb: it should be 16-up.

"Better"? Yes. "Almost everyone" is still bit of a stretch. Wink

There is so much in this game that a load of people will like it for a load of very different reasons.

They keep chucking more and more stuff into it with every new version. That is just more stuff for people to argue about. Twisted Evil

They have no real incentive to create good rules. People will carry on playing and carry on buying stuff, even if they have to fix up the rules themselves or carry on with the old ones.

I sometimes wonder if they deliberately create bad rules because bad rules create more outrage and chatter across the internet. Very Happy
"No such thing as bad publicity".

I bought the new rule book and two new teams and I haven't even played the new rules.
It works. Mr. Green

If it ever looks like "almost everyone", it'll only be because so many people either quit or just quit moaning. Twisted Evil

There is a 0% chance anyone could make a ruleset that appealed to almost everyone, especially while working within the constraints of a for profit company. Its just much harder to make people consistently happy with game design than you think.

The creator of blood bowl JJ said - Its important when designing Rosters and players that they aren't over described. That they are kept simple, which allows players to develop and grow. A player shouldn't feel "finished" before levelling up.

The examples he gave were the Wardancer (block, dodge, leap) and Troll Slayer (block, dauntless, frenzy, thick skull).

Where both are supposed to be elite hero types, but also, are already over-described. There just wasn't an obvious way to fix the design without breaking the teams. He suggested 3 skills maximum, and no perfect pairs, so not blodge or block/frenzy.

Of course, when big guys came in, he did use many more on them, (thick skull, ttm, mighty blow, bonehead at a minimum).

The modern deathroller is nuts, eight skills, it started life with 2 (stand firm, multiple block) though a couple now replace it's old special rules.

But modern Nurgle? Five on a pesti, six on a bloater, nine on a beast, and the majority not even needed.

--

But really, the undercosting is worse.

Orc blockers are wildly undercosted. 4449 is 80k.
They're 5449 MB/Taunt/Thick Skull, that's +60k!

They should be 120k after the usual high price player discount. They're sitting at 95k on the roster, a 25k discount each! On top of blitzer and runner discounts. That's insane.

Human catcher and blitzer similarly, 75k and 85k, should be 105k and 100k, total 90k across the team!

And in a TV-matching environment like fumbbl, having 100k bonus in your pocket every game is obviously going to be super good for you.

yes agree. This is another reason to consider this version highly unbalanced and poorly designed also at roster TV value. Much worst that the BB2020 with the final fix.

On top of the roster's inconsitencies highlighted by Tussok there are also many game dynamics which are bad not want to start again the discussion.

We will need to wait several FAQ or designer's commentaries to have all this mess fixed.

My no is very convinced now after several weeks of the new rules where i wacthed dozens of competitives games.

as you said. "Most" things are worse. This third edition is worse than BB2020.

High Elves are too good. Wrestle on Lion Warriors can be ok, but Claw is too much.
In WHFB Lion Warriors positively have no Claws.
They wear White Lions' furs, but they don't use their claws as weapons. They wield two-handed axes.

lion warriors should bring those axes that give +2 str.

So str5 and secret weapon.

I think the claw idea came from the old metal model.

Overall happy with the changes of this edition. Like the idea the good skills have an extra 10k Tax. I Think having some of the less picked or low powered skills at a 10k discount would make random's good again and be good for the game.

Yes I like this rule set more than BB2020. The question for me is do I like it more than BB2016. Don't know yet.
