So I am creating a BB app for my League group.
I am trying to code the interception template and I have doubts.
The rule I implemented is:
1- Every square is 34mm. The passing ruler is 55mm wide
2- Imagine that the passing ruler is a rectangle 55mm wide, starting at the center of the thrower square and stopping at the center of the catcher square.
3- every square touched by the passing rectangle is an intercept.
I think that this rule is pretty much correct. And yet when comparing my results to one of the most famous apps out there, it seems to give a different output.
So I am asking for advice:
This is my app results for square 5,5:
As you can see, squares 4,6 and 6,4 are valid interceptions
And this is the same result for BB coach Assistant (my benchmark) for square 5,5:
As you can see 4,6 and 6,4 are NOT valid interceptions
So my questions:
1- who is right?
2- why?
3- how does the fumbbl client work in this regard? |

"To determine if a player can attempt to Intercept the pass, place the circle at the end of the Range Ruler over the centre of the square occupied by the player performing the Pass Action. The other end of the Range Ruler is positioned so that it covers the square in which the ball will land (which may not be the original target square!) with the line running through the centre of the Range Ruler passing through the centre of the square. If the Range Ruler overlaps any squares containing a Standing opposition player, then their Coach may choose one of them to attempt to Intercept the pass. Players that have lost their Tackle Zone may not attempt to Intercept a pass."
doesn't answer ur question really, but also it does make it sound like squares behind the target square, can be intercepted from?
eg 8,8
because they're overlapped by the range ruler.. ? |

I know about the fact that the rule as written seems to encourage the fact that you can intercept a quick pass from a long bomb distance. Which is frankly idiotic.
But my question is very real and borderline, and I expected some consensus about it.
I would never argue for an intercept in 8,8 on tabletop, but I would argue about being able to intercept in 4,6 frankly. |

Also, not sure how you're supposed to achieve this on a short pass without bending the ruler a lot... |

The squares behind and to the side of the thrower shouldn't be valid interception squares because the range ruler is slightly tapered at that end, not rectangular.
But as things are written I can't see why you wouldn't be able to intercept on either side of the receiver. That end of the range ruler is definitely rectangular.
I think why this has occurred is that in this edition GW have removed the text saying the intercepting player has to occupy a square between the thrower and the receiver |

Not really. I tested and fumbbl doesn't agree with me.
The replay you offered grants an intercept but the pass is not on a 45 degrees diagonal. |

Thankyou very much. I will look into this.
I know nothing of java programming but maybe my ai companion will help me make sense of it and eventually translate it into code I can use. |

it'll only help u with question 3, tho
i am still unsure on how its actually supposed to work and why. i know it's silly but the rule as written appears to allow intercept from any square under the ruler |

Man, I've watched enough NFL to know that you could totally intercept from 4,6. |

Sorry, thought he passed to a different player. |
