I'm not arguing that people should take their lumps just so they will play me. Ok, partly: that is some of it. But more, this is a wonderful self-improvement opportunity, not just in gaming skills (that have minimal cross-application) but in perspective and mindset. But the thing about mindset is that it's really hard (and pointless) to talk about with people who don't want to see it. So we bring it up indirectly. The Beautiful Game has made me a better person, by helping to thicken my skin and by providing direct community development experience. But you can only get that if you expose yourself to humiliation, at least periodically. |

Life is more peaceful when I don't waste my breath arguing with fools. I hope he finds something to play with in the adult toy store instead of trying to ruin the kids' game the rest of us enjoy so much. |

you literally said anyone who doesn't enjoy playing boring uncompetitive matches should leave and that blood bowl isn't for them. You keep complaining about how American hours are dead. I'm American and I now avoid spinning if I think it's during a time where I'm going to wind up with a unfun uncompetitive game. I'm sure I'm not unique with that seeing as how good players on cyanide always get for forfitted on

Also, if you're "too good" for 145, they put you in the grad league. That's seriously a good option for you. You would find a lot of coaches around your level. A bunch of stars and supers, a very few megas (you progress to "Experienced Coach" status if you stay long at mega), not much below, you have to be too good for 145 to get in.
|
idk why you keep implying I'm some terrible player. The CR lists me as a megastar. You're about page mentions your CR multiple times so you must think it's valid on some level. I have all of 4 losses to someone with a CR lower than mine
I lost a rookie rumble match to someone who has a CR 7 points lower than mine. I really don't think CR has that much resolution that 7 points either way matters, especially when he has fewer games played. So it's really basically the same CR
I lost a rookie rumble to a guy who won a major qualifier and a rookie rumble so for whatever reason, maybe self imposed challenges, his CR is artificially low, but he's a good coach
I lost a rookie rumble to a guy who has a major qualifier and like 8 rookie rumble/minor wins. So again, a good coach, and I later beat him in a brawl match.
And I have 1 loss out of 11 box losses to a guy who has a lower TV than I do. If I play 145 coaches I'll be giving them unfun, noncompetitive matches. |

One of the main drivers for the Box is the BBT.

the guys who win the BBT are obviously very, very good coaches, but whenever I watch their games or check out those undefeated teams a lot of times they either had a lot of games where they pitch cleared people or they had a lot of games with favorable racial or CR matchups. Like I don't think I've seen an iron dorf team or a BBT team that went undefeated or close to it that actually ran the gauntlet of hard matchups. And the coaches that are winning are obviously the best or close to the best coaches on the site, but there is a lot of luck involved in the BBT |

I think that people simply cannot understand your thinking. This isn't chess.
If you are that good, you should be able to get at least some wins over Legends. Certainly some ties.
For very new or weak coaches, yes, I can see the argument. We'd likely say "don't play Box until you are ready".
If you are already a Mega-star, I don't see what the issue is. |

@Ph0enyx13, I'm not implying that you're a terrible player. You said you're afraid to play Megas. (Don't quibble on the "afraid" part, you talk about how it's consistently 'unfun' to play people at your ostensible level because they're so much better than you.) I proposed a venue where you can play coaches at the level you seem to want to play at exclusively. 145 grads aren't bad coaches: if they were, they wouldn't be grads.
I also didn't tell people to quit playing, just to accept that others are also playing, and will do it their way. You seem to want everyone you think might be better than you out of the pool, and then you talk about how good you are, and how people who don't want to quit the game over your preferences are trying to tell you how to have fun.
Or maybe you just want to pick a fight. That's enough for me, your positions are Jell-O. I'm on the Zelmor train now, no need to reply. |

there's a huge CR gap in some cases. I'm not "afraid of playing vs megastars". There are a lot of players on this site that have a CR within 100 or so points of mine. And I've had fun competitive games vs players in that range and maybe a little bit beyond that range. There are also a bunch of coaches way above that at range and I usually don't enjoy playing vs them. Also a lot of times when I get good dice vs players who are substantially better than me they either concede or just stop playing entirely say the same is over and then dice whine. I've had that happen on multiple occasions, not saying that I don't also dice whine. pretty much all of the best and most fun games I've played have come vs someone who had a CR very close to my own and basically every game I've played where the other coach had a very large CR gap over mine was not fun.
I think CR is a pretty good predictor if I've only last one box match to a coach with a lower CR and that every time I play vs someone with a similar CR I have a good competitive match unless there's a dicing and every time I play vs a 72%+ win rate coach I'm completely bored to the point I'll start playing on my phone.
and Jackassrampant I'm sure fumbbl has civility rules I'd rather not break by continuing this conversation |

Matching 3-game-old teams against 11-game-old teams is seriously not fun.
"Fairness" is fundamentally feeling like I'm playing the same game by the same rules as my opponent's team is playing, not necessarily having equal chances to win as they do.

The problem is that the matchmaking fumbbl algortithm tries to match the TV indipendently of the game played. So it is always very good in box to keep CTV as low as possible. Also in case you are activating ONE team and there is only ONE coach besides you activating this also is a risk situation . So there are several counter measures you can take to trey to get "fairer" pairing:
1) activate multiple teams spaced witjh 50-70 CTV between them
2) try to avoid playing when ONLY ONE Coach is spinning
3) be VERY vigilant when you have one team which played already three games, because at the third games you lose the rookie protection (for such reason is always good to try to keep CTV low)
Having told this looking your last four games played only this one https://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=match&id=4727975 had this pairing. all others seems fair
So just of one unfortunate event i would not make a storm in a glass of water.
I also complained in the past on this... but the priority for Fumbbl is to pair games in low-peak time. |

first 3 games have no such thing as 'rookie protection', what do u mean?
once upon a time there was rookie protection for first 15 games, before seasons were introduced
that's now replaced with: season1 can't match season2+
also, i'm sure this has been said, but this whole topic is silly
the alternative is matchups like: 10-game team at 1050k vs 10-game team at 1550k
this would obviously be worse
if you try and avoid those, it means restricting by both TV-gap and gamesplayed-gap
which just then means fewer matchups made, which again is worse
instead the real answer is simple. when u are playing in a TV-matched environment, treat it as such and remember to be TV efficient. don't take bad skills, don't grow in a bloaty way, etc |

Huge TV gaps were an issue with CRP and Cpomb in the Box.
In BB2025, without Cpomb and with the Seasons, Box games are generally quite fair, as long as you activate some TV-efficient teams at different TVs. |

I am not sure if this https://fumbbl.com/p/notes?op=view&id=522 is still valid (*)
somewhere is written
Below 3 games played, max TV difference allowed is within 10%
I define this, in very inaccurate way "rookie" protection... forgive me.
What i mean is that teams with less than 3 games played usually have a sort of protection with respect the TV gap.
But erhmmm I admit this is nothing to do with the number of games, provided you have same TV is possible to pair a team witn 1 game played vs a team with 12 games played i think (isn't it?)
(*)I know that Christer shared the full updated code of the matchmaking algorithm in a previous post |
